Abstract
The reaction of elemental iodine and SO3 in a sealed glass ampoule yielded a turquoise-colored solution. At temperatures below 7 °C, deep red crystals of (I4 )[S6 O19 ] grow. With the addition of B2 O3 and pyridine-SO3 complex red crystals of (I4 )[B(S2 O7 )2 ]2 can be obtained after heating the mixture to 120 °C. The combination of an (I4 )2+ cation with oxoanions has previously not been observed. Both anions have a significant but different influence on the structural properties of the (I4 )2+ cation.

Abstract
The systematic study of the platinum speciation in sulfuric acid solutions of platinum (IV) hydroxide {[Pt(OH)4(H2O)2], HHPA} was performed with the use of a combination of methods. Depending on the prevailing Pt form, the three regions of H2SO4 concentration were marked: (1) up to 3 M H2SO4 forms unstable solutions gradually generating the PtO2·xH2O particles; (2) 4-12 M H2SO4, where the series of mononuclear aqua-sulfato complexes ([Pt(SO4)n(H2O)6-n]4-2n, where n = 0···4) dominate; and (3) 12 M and above, where, along with [Pt(SO4)n(H2O)6-n]4-2n species, the polynuclear Pt(IV) species and complexes with a bidentate coordination mode of the sulfato ligand are formed. For the first time, the salts of the aqua-hydroxo Pt(IV) cation [Pt(OH)2(H2O)4]SO4 (triclinic and monoclinic phases) were isolated and studied with a combination of methods, including the single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The formation of PtO2·xH2O particles in sulfuric acid solutions (1-3 M) of HHPA and their spectral characteristics and morphology were studied. The deposition of PtO2·xH2O was highlighted as a convenient method to prepare various Pt-containing heterogeneous catalysts. This possibility was illustrated by the preparation of Pt/g-C3N4 catalysts, which show an excellent performance in catalytic H2 generation under visible light irradiation with a quantum efficiency up to 5% and a rate of H2 evolution up to 6.2 mol·h-1 per gram of loaded platinum.

Abstract
For the first time tetravalent palladium is detected, coordinated exclusively by simple oxoanions. Stabilization was achieved by formation of the [Pd(S2 O7 )3 ](2-) complex in which three chelating disulfate groups surround the metal atom. The salt K2 [Pd(S2 O7 )3 ] could only be obtained if the reaction of K2 [PdCl6 ] and neat SO3 was performed in the presence of XeF2 .

Abstract
The reaction of Mo(II)acetate, concentrated triflic acid and the alkaline metal triflates A(CF(3)SO(3)) (A = Na, Rb, Cs) in sealed glass ampoules at 110 °C yielded red single crystals of A[Mo(2)(CF(3)SO(3))(5)]·2CF(3)SO(3)H (A = Na: triclinic, P-1, Z = 4, a = 13.714(1) Å, b = 14.339(1) Å, c = 21.340(2) Å, α = 81.78(1)°, β = 75.21(1)°, γ = 62.65(1)°; A = Rb/Cs: monoclinic, P2(1)/m, Z = 2, a = 11.561(1)/11.584(1) Å, b = 14.817(1)/14.9472(8) Å, c = 11.6208(1)/11.744(1) Å, β = 112.38(1)/113.48(1)°). The crystal structures contain dumbbell shaped [Mo(2)] moieties surrounded by three chelating and four monodentate triflate anions leading to an opening of the typical paddlewheel fragment at one of its edges. The monodentate triflate anions are connected to further [Mo(2)] dumbbells leading to infinite anionic chains according to (∞)(1)[Mo(2)(CF(3)SO(3))(3/1)(CF(3)SO(3))(4/2)](-). The charge balance is achieved by the alkaline metal ions that are additionally coordinated by triflic acid molecules. Theoretical investigations were preformed on the open paddlewheel fragment and are in good agreement with the experimental findings. According to DTA/TG measurements and the XRD investigations the decomposition of the compounds occurs in multiple steps and leads to MoO(2) and A(2)MoO(4).
