Abstract
The reactions of [Fe2(CO)6(μ-sdt)] (1) (sdt = SCH2SCH2S) with phosphine ligands have been investigated. Treatment of 1 with dppm (bis(diphenylphosphino)methane) or dcpm (bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)methane) affords the diphosphine-bridged products [Fe2(CO)4(μ-sdt)(μ-dppm)] (2) and [Fe2(CO)4(μ-sdt)(μ-dcpm)] (3), respectively. The complex [Fe2(CO)4(μ-sdt)(κ2-dppv)] (4) with a chelating diphosphine was obtained by reacting 1 with dppv (cis-1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethene). Reaction of 1 with dppe (1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) produces [{Fe2(CO)4(μ-sdt)}2(μ-κ1-dppe)] (5) in which the diphosphine forms an intermolecular bridge between two diiron cluster fragments. Three products were obtained when dppf (1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene) was introduced to complex 1; they were [Fe2(CO)5(μ-sdt)(κ1-dppfO)] (6), the previously known [{Fe2(CO)5(μ-sdt)}2(μ-κ1-κ1-dppf)] (7), and [Fe2(CO)4(μ-sdt)(μ-dppf)] (8), with complex 8 being produced in highest yield. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis was performed on compounds 2, 3 and 8. All structures reveal the adoption of an anti-arrangement of the dithiolate bridges, while the diphosphines occupy dibasal positions. Infra-red spectroscopy indicates that the mono-substituted complexes 5, 6, and 7 are inert to protonation by HBF4.Et2O, but complexes 2, 3, 4 and [Fe2(CO)5(μ-sdt)(κ1-PPh3)] (9) show shifts of their ν(C-O) resonances that indicate that protons bind to the metal cores of the clusters. Addition of the one-electron oxidant [Cp2Fe]PF6 does not lead to any discernable shift in the IR resonances. The redox chemistry of the complexes was investigated by cyclic voltammetry, and the abilities of complexes to catalyze electrochemical proton reduction were examined.

Abstract
Bio-inorganic complexes inspired by hydrogenase enzymes are designed to catalyze the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). A series of new diiron hydrogenase mimic complexes with one or two terminal tris(4-methoxyphenyl)phosphine and different μ-bridging dithiolate ligands and show catalytic activity towards electrochemical proton reduction in the presence of weak and strong acids. A series of propane- and benzene-dithiolato-bridged complexes was synthesized, crystallized, and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and quantum chemical calculations. Their electrochemical properties as well as the detailed reaction mechanisms of the HER are elucidated by density functional theory (DFT) methods. The nature of the μ-bridging dithiolate is critically controlling the reaction and performance of the HER of the complexes. In contrast, terminal phosphine ligands have no significant effects on redox activities and mechanism. Mono- or di-substituted propane-dithiolate complexes afford a sequential reduction (electrochemical; E) and protonation (chemical; C) mechanism (ECEC), while the μ-benzene dithiolate complexes follow a different reaction mechanism and are more efficient HER catalysts.

Abstract
The Te⋅⋅⋅Te secondary bonding interactions (SBIs) in solid cyclic telluroethers were explored by preparing and structurally characterizing a series of [Te(CH2 )m ]n (n=1-4; m=3-7) species. The SBIs in 1,7-Te2 (CH2 )10 , 1,8-Te2 (CH2 )12 , 1,5,9-Te3 (CH2 )9 , 1,8,15-Te3 (CH2 )18 , 1,7,13,19-Te4 (CH2 )20 , 1,8,15,22-Te4 (CH2 )24 and 1,9,17,25-Te4 (CH2 )28 lead to tubular packing of the molecules, as has been observed previously for related thio- and selenoether rings. The nature of the intermolecular interactions was explored by solid-state PBE0-D3/pob-TZVP calculations involving periodic boundary conditions. The molecular packing in 1,7,13,19-Te4 (CH2 )20 , 1,8,15,22-Te4 (CH2 )24 and 1,9,17,25-Te4 (CH2 )28 forms infinite shafts. The electron densities at bond critical points indicate a narrow range of Te⋅⋅⋅Te bond orders of 0.12-0.14. The formation of the shafts can be rationalized by frontier orbital overlap and charge transfer.

Abstract
The electrochemical behavior of complexes [FeMo(CO)5(κ2-dppe)(μ-pdt)] (1) and [FeMo(CO)4(MeCN)(κ2-dppe)(μ-pdt)] (2), in the absence and in the presence of acid, has been investigated. The reduction of 1 follows at slow scan rates, in CH2Cl2-[NBu4][PF6] and acid-free media, an ECrevE mechanism that is supported by cyclic voltammetry (CV) experiments and digital CV simulations. In MeCN-[NBu4][PF6], the electrochemical reduction of 1 is the same as in dichloromethane and follows an ECE mechanism at slow scan rates, but with a positive shift of the redox potentials. In contrast, the oxidation of 1 is strongly solvent-dependent. In dichloromethane, the oxidation of 1 is reversible and involves a single electron, while in acetonitrile, it is irreversible at moderate and slow scan rates ( v ≤ ca. 1 V s-1), and some chemical reversibility is apparent at higher scan rates ( v = 10 V s-1). Density functional theory calculations revealed that the chemical step in the ECrevE mechanism corresponds to the dissociation of one PPh2 end of the diphosphine ligand and the transfer of the semibridging CO to the Fe atom, similarly to the mechanism observed in the FeFe analogue complex. However, in the case of 1, the subsequent coordination of the phosphine ligand to the other metal is an unfavorable process.

Abstract
To probe the influence of phosphine ligand substitution on the well-known [2Fe2S] model, two new [FeFe]-hydrogenase model complexes with the phosphine ligands, PMe3 or P(CH3O)3, were synthesized, such as μ-(SCH(CH2CH3)CH2S)–Fe2(CO)5PMe31, and μ-(SCH(CH2CH3)CH2S)–Fe2(CO)5P(CH3O)32 Confirmation of structures was provided by FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 31P NMR, elemental analyses and single-crystal X-ray analysis. The crystal structure of complex 2 shows that the P(CH3O)3 ligand has less steric effect on the coordination geometry of the Fe atom than the PMe3 ligand. In the presence of HOAc in CH3CN solution, the hydrogen evolution overpotentials of complexes 1 and 2 were 0.91 V and 0.81 V, respectively. Comparatively, complex 2 produces hydrogen at an overpotential of 0.1 V, lower than that for complex 1. A further electrocatalytic study showed the maximum charges for 1 and 2 were 31.3 mC and 56.3 mC at −2.30 V for 10 min, respectively. These studies showed that the complexes 1 and 2 have the ability, as novel electrocatalysts, for catalysis of hydrogen production, and complex 2 has better electrocatalytic ability than complex 1. To probe the influence of phosphine ligand substitution on the well-known [2Fe2S] model, two new [FeFe]-hydrogenase model complexes with the phosphine ligands, PMe3 or P(CH3O)3, were synthesized.![]()

Abstract
Virtually all organosulfur compounds react with Fe(0) carbonyls to give the title complexes. These reactions are reviewed in light of major advances over the past few decades, spurred by interest in Fe2(μ-SR)2(CO)x centers at the active sites of the [FeFe]-hydrogenase enzymes. The most useful synthetic route to Fe2(μ-SR)2(CO)6 involves the reaction of thiols with Fe2(CO)9 and Fe3(CO)12. Such reactions can proceed via mono-, di-, and triiron intermediates. The reactivity of Fe(0) carbonyls toward thiols is highly chemoselective, and the resulting dithiolato complexes are fairly rugged. Thus, many complexes tolerate further synthetic elaboration directed at the organic substituents. A second major route involves alkylation of Fe2(μ-S2)(CO)6, Fe2(μ-SH)2(CO)6, and Li2Fe2(μ-S)2(CO)6. This approach is especially useful for azadithiolates Fe2[(μ-SCH2)2NR](CO)6. Elaborate complexes arise via addition of the FeSH group to electrophilic alkenes, alkynes, and carbonyls. Although the first example of Fe2(μ-SR)2(CO)6 was prepared from ferrous reagents, ferrous compounds are infrequently used, although the Fe(II)(SR)2 + Fe(0) condensation reaction is promising. Almost invariably low-yielding, the reaction of Fe3(CO)12, S8, and a variety of unsaturated substrates results in C-H activation, affording otherwise inaccessible derivatives. Thiones and related C═S-containing reagents are highly reactive toward Fe(0), often giving complexes derived from substituted methanedithiolates and C-H activation.

Abstract
The photochemical reaction of Fe2(S2)(CO)6 and Ph2CS affords the perthiolate Fe2(S3CPh2)(CO)6 (1) in good yield. As confirmed crystallographically, 1 contains a previously elusive perthiolate ligand. The related reaction of Fe2(S2)(CO)5-(PPh3) and Ph2CS gave Fe2(S3CPh2)(CO)5(PPh3). Although Fe3S2(CO)9 and Ph2CS failed to efficiently give Fe2(S2CPh2)(CO)6, this compound could be prepared by desulfurization of 1 using PPh3.

Abstract
Podisus nigrispinus Dallas (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) is a predator insect with potential applications in biological control because both nymphs and adults have been shown to prey on other insect pests by injection of toxic salivary gland contents. This study identified non-proteinaceous compounds with insecticidal activity from the saliva of P. nigrispinus in Anticarsia gemmatalis. In particular, the ether extract from P. nigrispinus saliva led to mortality in A. gemmatalis larvae, with a LC50 = 2.04 μL and LC90 = 3.27 μL. N,N-dimethylaniline and 1,2,5-trithiepane fractions were identified as non-proteinaceous extract components. N,N-dimethylaniline had a LC50 = 136.1 nL and LC90 = 413.8 nL, suggesting that it could be responsible for toxicity in P. nigrispinus saliva.

Abstract
The air- and moisture-stable iron-sulfur carbonyl clusters Fe3S2(CO)7(dppm) (1) and Fe3S2(CO)7(dppf) (2) carrying the bisphosphine ligands bis(diphenylphosphanyl)methane (dppm) and 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)ferrocene (dppf) were prepared and fully characterized. Two alternative synthetic routes based on different thionation reactions of triiron dodecacarbonyl were tested. The molecular structures of the methylene-bridged compound 1 and the ferrocene-functionalized derivative 2 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The catalytic reactivity of the trinuclear iron-sulfur cluster core for proton reduction in solution at low overpotential was demonstrated. These deeply colored bisphosphine-bridged sulfur-capped iron carbonyl systems are discussed as promising candidates for the development of new bioinspired model compounds of iron-based hydrogenases.
