Abstract
(NHC) → E coordination interactions are being explored in many chemical species, including carbones and nitreones. (NHC) → S interactions are rare, but increasing attention is being paid to the compounds containing such interactions. The electron deficiency at the S centre is responsible for triggering electron donation from the NHC unit in (NHC) → SR(+) systems. It is well known that the positive charge at the sulfur centre increases upon single oxidation and further increases upon double oxidation. This implies that (NHC) → S interactions may become explicit after S-oxidation in the (NHC) → SR(+) systems. To explore this hypothesis, we performed quantum chemical design and synthesis of (NHC) → SR(+), (NHC) → S(O)R(+), and (NHC) → S(O)2R(+) complexes in which the ligands are imidazol-2-ylidene derivatives. Eight derivatives of the (imidazol-2-ylidene) → SR(+) systems were generated, and their sulfoxide and sulfone derivatives were obtained by oxidation using urea-H2O2 and mCPBA, respectively. The crystal structures of three compounds belonging to a series were determined. A comparison of the geometric, energetic and electronic characteristics confirmed the hypothesis that the (NHC) → S coordination interaction becomes comparatively stronger with an increase in oxygen atoms at the sulfur centre.

Abstract
A set of N-coordinated tellurium(II) compounds containing either C,N-chelating ligands CNR (where CN = 2-(RNCH)C6H4, R = tBu or Dipp; Dipp = 2,6-iPr2C6H3) or N,C,N pincer ligands NCNR (where NCN = 2,6-(RNCH)2C6H4, R = tBu or Dipp) were synthesized. In the case of C,N-chelated compounds, the reaction of CNDippLi with Te(dtc)2 (where dtc = Et2NCS2) in a 1 : 1 molar ratio smoothly provided the carbamate CNDippTe(dtc) which upon treatment with 2 eq. of HCl provided the chloride CNDippTeCl. In contrast, the analogous conversion of NCNRLi with Te(dtc)2 surprisingly furnished ionic bromides [NCNRTe]Br as a result of the exchange of dtc by Br coming from nBuBr present in the reaction mixture. Furthermore, the reaction of CNDippTeCl or [NCNRTe]Br with silver salts AgX (X = OTf or SbF6) provided the expected tellurenium cations [CNDippTe]SbF6 and [NCNRTe]X. To further increase the Lewis acidity of the central atom, the oxidation of selected compounds with 1 eq. of SO2Cl2 was examined yielding stable compounds [CNtBuTeCl2]X and [NCNtBuTeCl2]X. The oxidation of the Dipp substituted compounds proved to be more challenging and an excess of SO2Cl2 was necessary to obtain the oxidized products [CNDippTeCl2]SbF6 and [NCNDippTeCl2]SbF6, which could solely be characterized in solution. Compounds [CNtBuTeCl2]OTf and [NCNtBuTeCl2]OTf were shown to undergo a controlled hydrolysis to the corresponding telluroxanes. All compounds were studied by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy in solution and for selected compounds solid state 125Te NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis were performed. The Lewis acidity of the studied cations was examined by the Gutmann-Beckett method using Et3PO as the probing agent. The Te-N chalcogen bonding situation of selected compounds has also been examined computationally by a set of real-space bonding indicators.

Abstract
Crystal engineering based on σ-hole interactions is an emerging approach for realization of new materials with higher complexity. Neutral inorganic clusters derived from 1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane, substituted with -SeMe, -TeMe, and -I moieties on both skeletal carbon vertices are experimentally demonstrated herein as outstanding chalcogen- and halogen-bond donors. In particular, these new molecules strongly interact with halide anions in the solid-state. The halide ions are coordinated by one or two donor groups (μ1 - and μ2 -coordinations), to stabilize a discrete monomer or dimer motifs to 1D supramolecular zig-zag chains. Crucially, the observed chalcogen bond and halogen bond interactions feature remarkably short distances and high directionality. Electrostatic potential calculations further demonstrate the efficiency of the carborane derivatives, with Vs,max being similar or even superior to that of reference organic halogen-bond donors, such as iodopentafluorobenzene.

Abstract
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) are nowadays ubiquitous and indispensable in many research fields, and it is not possible to imagine modern transition metal and main group element chemistry without the plethora of available NHCs with tailor-made electronic and steric properties. While their suitability to act as strong ligands toward transition metals has led to numerous applications of NHC complexes in homogeneous catalysis, their strong σ-donating and adaptable π-accepting abilities have also contributed to an impressive vitalization of main group chemistry with the isolation and characterization of NHC adducts of almost any element. Formally, NHC coordination to Lewis acids affords a transfer of nucleophilicity from the carbene carbon atom to the attached exocyclic moiety, and low-valent and low-coordinate adducts of the p-block elements with available lone pairs and/or polarized carbon-element π-bonds are able to act themselves as Lewis basic donor ligands toward transition metals. Accordingly, the availability of a large number of novel NHC adducts has not only produced new varieties of already existing ligand classes but has also allowed establishment of numerous complexes with unusual and often unprecedented element-metal bonds. This review aims at summarizing this development comprehensively and covers the usage of N-heterocyclic carbene adducts of the p-block elements as ligands in transition metal chemistry.

Abstract
Abstract
Besides the previously known α-form (monoclinic, P21/c, Z=4) of bis(2,6-dimesitylphenyl)ditelluride, two new polymorphic modifications, namely the β-form (monoclinic, P21/c, Z=8) and the γ-form (triclinic, P1̅, Z=2), were obtained serendipitously during chemical reactions. In all three modifications, the individual molecules possess significantly different conformations and bond parameters, such as Te–Te bond lengths, C–Te–Te bond angles, C–Te–Te–C torsion angles and intramolecular Menshutkin interactions, which is also reflected in their non-covalent interactions with adjacent molecules in the crystal lattice via London dispersion and electrostatic forces. The interplay between intermolecular and intramolecular forces in these conformational polymorphs was investigated using quantum chemical calculations, which reveal that the β-form should be thermodynamically stable at absolute zero. In contrast, crystallization experiments and thermoanalytical investigations indicate that the α-form is stable at high temperatures and therefore, both forms might be related by enantiotropism.

Abstract
Since the discovery of the first stable N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) in the beginning of the 1990s, these divalent carbon species have become a common and available class of compounds, which have found numerous applications in academic and industrial research. Their important role as two-electron donor ligands, especially in transition metal chemistry and catalysis, is difficult to overestimate. In the past decade, there has been tremendous research attention given to the chemistry of low-coordinate main group element compounds. Significant progress has been achieved in stabilization and isolation of such species as Lewis acid/base adducts with highly tunable NHC ligands. This has allowed investigation of numerous novel types of compounds with unique electronic structures and opened new opportunities in the rational design of novel organic catalysts and materials. This Review gives a general overview of this research, basic synthetic approaches, key features of NHC-main group element adducts, and might be useful for the broad research community.

Abstract
Controlled bromination of a diarylditelluride, R2Te2 (R = 2,6-dimethylphenyl) (6) in dichloromethane led to the formation of a Te(II)-Te(IV) mixed-valent tellurenyl bromide, RBr2TeTeR (7). A further reaction of 7 with 1,3-dibutylbenzimidazolin-2-selone, C15H22N2Se (L) (9), produced the first selone adduct of the 2,6-dimethylphenyltellurenyl cation with the 2,6-dimethylphenyltellurium dibromide anion, [(2,6-Me2C6H3)Te(L)](+)[(2,6-Me2C6H3)TeBr2](-) (10). The red colored cationic adduct 10 is not stable in acetonitrile and disproportionated to give the selone adduct of 2,6-dimethylphenyltellurenyl bromide, [(2,6-Me2C6H3)Te(L)Br] (11b) and bis(2,6-dimethylphenyl)tellurium dibromide, [(2,6-Me2C6H3)2TeBr2], (13). The metathesis reaction of 11b with AgBF4 produced a stable dark red colored selone adduct of the 2,6-dimethylphenyltellurenyl cation with the BF4(-) anion, [(2,6-Me2C6H3)Te(L)](+)BF4(-) (15). The selone adducts of aryltellurenyl halides, i.e. [(2,6-Me2C6H3)Te(L)X] (X = Cl, Br, I) (11a-11c), have been synthesized by a one-pot reaction of 6 with an equimolar mixture of 9 and 1,3-dibutylbenzimidazolin-2-dihaloselones, C15H22N2SeX2 (14a-14c). Triphenylphosphine (PPh3), when treated with [(2,6-Me2C6H3)Te(L)X] (11a-11c), substitutes selone from the adduct to afford the triphenylphosphine adducts of aryltellurenyl halides, [(2,6-Me2C6H3)Te(PPh3)X] (16a-16c).
