Abstract
A series of tris(trimethylsilylmethyl) yttrium donor adduct complexes was synthesized and fully characterized by X-ray diffraction, 1H/13C/29Si/31P/89Y heteronuclear NMR and FTIR spectroscopies as well as elemental analyses. Treatment of Y(CH2SiMe3)3(thf)x with various donors Do led to complete (Do = TMEDA, DMAP) and partial displacement of THF (Do = NHCiPr, DMPE). Exceptionally large 89Y NMR shifts to low field were observed for the new complexes. Complexes Y(CH2SiMe3)3(tmeda) and Y(CH2SiMe3)3(dmpe)(thf) were chosen to perform surface organometallic chemistry, due to a comparatively higher thermal stability and the availability of the 31P nucleus as a spectroscopic probe, respectively. Mesoporous nanoparticles of the MCM-48-type were synthesized and used as a 3rd generation silica support. The parent and hybrid materials were characterized using X-ray powder diffraction, solid-state-NMR spectroscopy, DRIFTS, elemental analyses, N2-physisorption, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The presence of surface-bound yttrium alkyl moieties was further proven by the reaction with carbon dioxide. Quantification of the surface silanol population by means of HN(SiHMe2)2-promoted surface silylation is shown to be superior to titration with lithium alkyl LiCH2SiMe3.

Abstract
We report the synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of a new low-symmetry β-diketimine featuring a pendant amino(methyl)phenol donor and its corresponding heteroleptic rare-earth (RE) complexes. This includes the first structurally characterized examples of alcoholysis and insertion from an isolated REIII amide in a β-diketimine framework. The flexible methylene linkage leads to REIII complexes with tunable dynamic solution behavior that defines their stoichiometric and catalytic reactivity. The addition of a strong neutral donor ligand, tricyclohexylphosphine oxide, suppresses a prevalent catalyst degradation pathway (base-promoted elimination) and dramatically enhances the catalyst performance in the stereospecific ring-opening polymerization of rac-β-butyrolactone. Our results further demonstrate the importance of ligand reorganization in the stoichiometric and catalytic activity of REIII ions.

Abstract
Crystallographic characterization of complexes of the smaller rare-earth elements Y, Dy, and Er with the NPh2 ligand reveals monometallic, bimetallic, and tetrametallic structures. Studies of the coordination chemistry between the diphenylamide ligand, NPh2, and the smaller rare-earth LnIII ions, Ln = Y, Dy, and Er, led to the structural characterization by single-crystal X-ray diffraction crystallography of both solvated and unsolvated complexes, namely, tris(diphenylamido-κN)bis(tetrahydrofuran-κO)yttrium(III), Y(NPh2)3(THF)2 or [Y(C12H10N)3(C4H8O)2], 1-Y, and the erbium(III) (Er), 1-Er, analogue, and bis[μ-1κN:2(η6)-diphenylamido]bis[bis(diphenylamido-κN)yttrium(III)], [(Ph2N)2Y(μ-NPh2)]2 or [Y2(C12H10N)6], 2-Y, and the dysprosium(III) (Dy), 2-Dy, analogue. The THF ligands of 1-Er are modeled with disorder across two positions with occupancies of 0.627 (12):0.323 (12) and 0.633 (7):0.367 (7). Also structurally characterized was the tetrametallic ErIII bridging oxide hydrolysis product, bis(μ-diphenylamido-κ2N:N)bis[μ-1κN:2(η6)-diphenylamido]tetrakis(diphenylamido-κN)di-μ3-oxido-tetraerbium(III) benzene disolvate, {[(Ph2N)Er(μ-NPh2)]4(μ-O)2}·(C6H6)2 or [Er4(C12H10N)8O2]·2C6H6, 3-Er. The 3-Er structure was refined as a three-component twin with occupancies 0.7375:0.2010:0.0615.

Abstract
Isoenriched poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (P3HB) is a biodegradable material with properties similar to isotactic polypropylene, yet efficient routes to this material are lacking after 50+ years of extensive efforts in catalyst design. In this contribution, a novel lanthanum aminobisphenolate catalyst (1-La) can access isoenriched P3HB through the stereospecific ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of rac-β-butyrolactone (rac-BBL). Replacing the tethered donor group of a privileged supporting ligand with a non-coordinating benzyl substituent generates a catalyst whose reactivity and selectivity can be tuned with inexpensive achiral neutral donor ligands (e.g. phosphine oxides, OPR3). The 1-La/OPR3 (R = n-octyl, Ph) systems display high activity and are the most isoselective homogeneous catalysts for the ROP of rac-BBL to date (0 °C: Pm = 0.8, TOF ∼190 h−1). Combined reactivity and spectroscopic studies provide insight into the active catalyst structure and ROP mechanism. Both 1-La(TPPO)2 and a structurally related catalyst with a tethered donor group (2-Y) operate under chain-end stereocontrol; however, 2-RE favors formation of P3HB with opposite tacticity (syndioenriched) and its ROP activity and selectivity are totally unaffected by added neutral donor ligands. Our studies uncover new roles for neutral donor ligands in stereospecific ROP, including suppression of chain-scission events, and point to new opportunities for catalyst design. Simple achiral neutral donor ligands modify catalyst structure and function to enable access to isoenriched poly-3-hydroxybutyrate, a biodegradable material with properties similar to isotactic polypropylene.![]()

Abstract
N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are ubiquitous ancillary ligands employed in metal-catalyzed homogeneous reactions and polymerization reactions. Of significance is the use of NHCs as the supporting ligand in second- and third-generation Grubbs catalysts for their application in olefin metathesis and ring-opening metathesis polymerization. While the applications of transition metal catalysts ligated with NHCs in polymerization chemistry are well-documented, the use of analogous rare earth (Ln = Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu) catalysts in this area remains under-developed, despite the unique role of rare earth elements in regio- and stereo-specific (co)polymerization reactions. By using hetero-atom-tethered chelating NHCs and, more recently, the employment of other structurally related NHCs, NHC-ligated Ln complexes have proven to be promising and fruitful catalysts for selective polymerization reactions. This review summarizes the recent developments in the coordination chemistry of Ln complexes containing NHCs and their catalytic performance in polymerization.

Abstract
A series of amidine ligands RAmDIPP (R is backbone substituent, R = 2-methylpyridine (HL1), N,N,2-trimethylaniline (HL2), N,N-dimethylpropan-1-amine (HL3); DIPP (2,6-diisopropylphenyl) is N substituent) and a (Z)-1,1-diethyl-2,3-bis(2-methoxyphenyl)guanidine ligand (HL4) have been synthesized. Reaction of HL1-HL4 with Ca[N(SiHMe2)2](THF) or Ca[N(SiMe3)2](THF)2, respectively, afforded complexes 1-8 (1: [L1AmDIPPCa(SiHMe2)2]2, 2: L1AmDIPPCaN(SiMe3)2·(THF)2, 3: L2AmDIPPCaN(SiHMe2)2·(THF)2, 4: L2AmDIPPCaN(SiMe3)2·(THF), 5: L3AmDIPPCaN(SiHMe2)2·(THF)2, 6: L3AmDIPPCaN(SiMe3)2·(THF)2, 7: [L4CaN(SiHMe2)2]2, 8: [L4CaN(SiMe3)2]2). All the complexes were well-defined by NMR spectrum analyses and the molecular structures of 3 and 5-8 were further determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. In combination with an excess of PhOH as the chain transfer agent, complexes 1-8 catalyzed immortal ring-opening polymerization of rac-lactide in a controlled manner and exhibited moderate catalytic activity at room temperature. The end-group fidelity of the resultant polymer was certified by NMR and MALDI-TOF mass spectra.

Abstract
We present here a comprehensive computational and theoretical analysis of the silane-methane dimer with the goal of understanding the origin of the interactions that hold it together and the factors that affect its strength. Several interaction topologies have been analysed and the associated interaction energies have been evaluated at the CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory. Next, substitution effects have been studied on several silane and methane derivatives. The molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) maps of the molecules involved in the interactions have been built to try to correlate the interaction energies with the maximum/minimum EP values (Vs). Furthermore, we have performed an energy decomposition analysis to gain deeper insight into the physical nature of the interactions and to unravel whether dispersion is the primary component of the attraction. Finally, we complete the theoretical analysis with the study of several experimental crystal structures in which there are silylmethyl short contacts.

Abstract
Heteroleptic bis(silyl)amides of magnesium and calcium [(L)M{N(SiMe3)2}] [M = Mg, Ca; LH = 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane; (Me3TACD)H] were previously synthesized from LH and [M{N(SiMe3)2}2]. Strontium bis(silyl)amides [Sr{N(SiMe3)2}2(thf)2] and [Sr{N(SiHMe2)2}2(thf)2/3] reacted with LH to give different types of products, depending on the presence of the β-SiH function. While the former underwent protonolysis to give the amido-bridged dimer [(L)Sr{N(SiMe3)2}]2 (1), the latter gave the adduct [(LH)Sr{N(SiHMe2)2}2] (2) as a stable solid. 2 slowly underwent an intramolecular Si-H/H-N dehydrocoupling in solution to give [{(L)SiMe2N(SiHMe2)}Sr{N(SiHMe2)2}] (3) by liberating H2. The results of transamination of 1 with HN(SiHMe2)2 depended on the relative stoichiometric ratio. A 1 : 1 mixture in n-pentane gave [{(L)SiMe2N(SiHMe2)}Sr{N(SiMe3)2}] (4) and H2, while excess HN(SiHMe2)2 gave the adduct 2 under similar conditions. Compounds 2 and 3 exhibit Sr↼H-Si interactions according to X-ray crystallography, NMR, and IR spectroscopy. Lighter congeners of elusive [(L)Sr{N(SiHMe2)2}] were isolable for Mg (5) and Ca (6).

Abstract
A series of rare-earth metal diisopropylamide complexes has been obtained via salt metathesis employing LnCl3(THF)x and lithium (LDA) or sodium diisopropylamide (NDA) in n-hexane. Reactions with AM : Ln ratios ≥3 gave ate complexes (AM)Ln(NiPr2)4(THF)n (n = 1, 2; Ln = Sc, Y, La, Lu; AM = Li, Na) in good yields. For smaller rare-earth metal centres such as scandium and lutetium, a Li : Ln ratio = 2.5 accomplished ate-free tris(amido) complexes Ln(NiPr2)3(THF). The chloro-bridged dimeric derivatives [Ln(NiPr2)2(μ-Cl)(THF)]2 (Ln = Sc, Y, La, Lu) could be obtained in high yields for Li : Ln = 1.6-2. The product resulting from the Li : La = 1 : 1.6 reaction revealed a crystal structure containing two different molecules in the crystal lattice, [La(NiPr2)2(THF)(μ-Cl)]2·La(NiPr2)3(THF)2. Recrystallization of the chloro-bridged dimers led to the formation of the monomeric species Ln(NiPr2)2Cl(THF)2 (Ln = Sc, Lu) and La(NiPr2)3(THF)2. The reaction of YCl3 and LDA with Li : Y = 2 in the absence of THF gave a bimetallic ate complex LiY(NiPr2)4 with a chain-like structure. For scandium, the equimolar reactions with LDA or NDA yielded crystals of tetrametallic mono(amido) species, {[Sc(NiPr2)Cl2(THF)]2(LiCl)}2 and [Sc(NiPr2)Cl2(THF)]4, respectively. Depending on the Ln(iii) size, AM, and presence of a donor solvent, ate complexes (AM)Ln(NiPr2)4(THF)n show distinct dynamic behaviour as revealed by variable temperature NMR spectroscopy. The presence of weak LnCH(iPr) β-agostic interactions, as indicated by Ln-N-C angles <105°, is corroborated by DFT calculations and NBO analysis.

Abstract
The syntheses of novel Group 5 and Group 6 hydrosilylamido complexes of the type R(ArN[double bond, length as m-dash])M{N((t)Bu)SiMe2-H}X (M = Ta, R = Cp; M = Mo, R = ArN; X = Cl, H, OBn, Me) are described. The various substituents in the X position seem to play the key role in determining the extent of β-agostic interaction with the Si-H bond. The Mo agostic hydrido complex (ArN[double bond, length as m-dash])2Mo{η(3)-N((t)Bu)SiMe2-H}H is a pre-catalyst for the hydrosilylation of carbonyls. The stoichiometric reaction between benzaldehyde and (ArN[double bond, length as m-dash])2Mo{η(3)-N((t)Bu)SiMe2-H}H gives the benzoxy complex (ArN[double bond, length as m-dash])2Mo{N((t)Bu)SiMe2-H}(OBn), which showed a similar catalytic reactivity compared to the parent hydride. Mechanistic studies suggest that a non-hydride mechanism is operative.

Abstract
The trivalent compound K[Ce[N(SiHMe2)2]4] was synthesized and oxidized, providing a convenient route to the reported cerium(IV) compound Ce[N(SiHMe2)2]4. Protonolysis reactions of Ce[N(SiHMe2)2]4 with tert-butanol, substituted benzyl alcohols, and 2,6-diphenylphenol yielded the neutral tetravalent compounds Ce(O(t)Bu)4(py)2, Ce2(OCH2C6R5)8(thf)2 (R = Me, F), and Ce(Odpp)4 (dpp = 2,6-(C6H5)2-C6H3). Spectroscopic and electrochemical characterization of the monometallic cerium(IV) silylamide, alkoxide, and aryloxide compounds revealed variable ligand-to-metal charge transfer transitions and metal-based reduction potentials. Computational bonding analyses were performed to complement the physical characterization of the complexes.

Abstract
Trivalent Eu[N(SiHMe2)2]3(THF)2 can easily be synthesized by applying a routine salt metathesis protocol (EuCl3(THF)2 and 3 equiv. of Li[N(SiHMe2)2] in n-hexane) which crystallizes isotypically to its analogues of the rare-earth metal series (space group P21/c). Transsilylamination of Eu[N(SiMe3)2]2(THF)2 with a slight excess of HN(SiHMe2)2 in n-hexane-THF yields the divalent trinuclear compound Eu{[μ-N(SiHMe2)2]2Eu[N(SiHMe2)2](THF)}2, the solid-state structure of which differs significantly from the samarium and ytterbium analogues by showing three unique molecules in the asymmetric unit of which one is related to the two others by an inversion. Using crude Eu[N(SiMe3)2]3 in transsilylamination reactions with HN(SiHMe2)2 in n-hexane afforded n-hexane-insoluble trivalent ate complexes {MEu[N(SiHMe2)2]4}n (M = Na, K) depending on the synthesis conditions of Eu[N(SiMe3)2]3. Performing the transsilylamination of Eu[N(SiMe3)2]3 with a large excess of HN(SiHMe2)2 at elevated temperatures gave reproducibly the donor-free, mixed-valent, trinuclear compound Eu(II){[μ-N(SiHMe2)2]Eu(III)[N(SiHMe2)2]3}2 in good yield.

Abstract
Bis(dimethylsilyl)amide and bis(dimethylphenylsilyl)amide complexes of the divalent transition metals chromium, manganese, and cobalt were synthesized. Dimeric, donor-free {Mn[N(SiHMe2)2]2}2 could be obtained via two different pathways, a salt metathesis route (utilizing MnCl2(thf)1.5 and LiN(SiHMe2)2) and a transsilylamination protocol (utilizing Mn[N(SiMe3)2]2(thf) and HN(SiHMe2)2). Addition of 1,1,3,3-tetramethylethylendiamine (tmeda) to {Mn[N(SiHMe2)2]2}2 yielded the monomeric adduct Mn[N(SiHMe2)2]2(tmeda). The syntheses of Cr[N(SiHMe2)2]2(tmeda), Co[N(SiMe3)2][N(SiHMe2)2](tmeda), and Co[N(SiHMe2)2]2(tmeda) were achieved by transsilylamination from Cr[N(SiMe3)2]2(tmeda) and {Co[N(SiMe3)2]2}2(μ-tmeda), respectively. Bis(dimethylphenylsilyl)amide complexes Mn[N(SiMe2Ph)2]2, Cr[N(SiMe2Ph)2]2, and Co[N(SiMe2Ph)2]2(thf) were obtained via salt metathesis employing MCl2(thf)x (M = Cr, Mn, Co) with equimolar amounts of LiN(SiMe2Ph)2 in n-hexane. Treatment of CrCl2 with LiN(SiMe2Ph)2 in thf gave Cr[N(SiMe2Ph)2]2(thf)2, featuring an almost square planar trans-coordination. All complexes were examined by elemental analyses, DRIFT and UV-vis spectroscopy, as well as X-ray structure analysis, paying particular attention to secondary M---SiH β-agostic and M---π(arene) interactions. Magnetic moments were determined by Evans' method.

Abstract
Four new cerium(III) formamidinate complexes comprising [Ce(p-TolForm)3 ], [Ce(DFForm)3 (thf)2 ], [Ce(DFForm)3 ], and [Ce(EtForm)3 ] were synthesized by protonolysis reactions using [Ce{N(SiMe3 )2 }3 ] and formamidines of varying functionality, namely N,N'-bis(4-methylphenyl)formamidine (p-TolFormH), N,N'-bis(2,6-difluorophenyl)formamidine (DFFormH), and the sterically more demanding N,N'-bis(2,6-diethylphenyl)formamidine (EtFormH). The bimetallic cerium lithium complex [LiCe(DFForm)4 ] was synthesized by treating a mixture of [Ce{N(SiHMe2 )2 }3 (thf)2 ] and [Li{N(SiHMe2 )2 }] with four equivalents of DFFormH in toluene. Oxidation of the trivalent cerium(III) formamidinate complexes by trityl chloride (Ph3 CCl) caused dramatic color changes, although the cerium(IV) species appeared transient and reformed cerium(III) complexes and N'-trityl-N,N'-diarylformamidines shortly after oxidation. The first structurally characterized homoleptic cerium(IV) formamidinate complex [Ce(p-TolForm)4 ] was obtained through a protonolysis reaction between [Ce{N(SiHMe2 )2 }4 ] and four equivalents of p-TolFormH. [Ce{N(SiHMe2 )2 }4 ] was also treated with DFFormH and EtFormH, but the resulting cerium(IV) complexes decomposed before isolation was possible. The new cerium(IV) silylamide complex [Ce{N(SiMe3 )2 }3 (bda)0.5 ]2 (bda=1,4-benzenediolato) was synthesized by treatment of [Ce{N(SiMe3 )2 }3 ] with half an equivalent of 1,4-benzoquinone, and showed remarkable resistance towards protonolysis or reduction.

Abstract
Treatment of Ce[N(SiHMe(2))(2)](3)(thf)(2) with the chlorinating agents PhICl(2), Ph(3)CCl or C(2)Cl(6) gave the homoleptic Ce(IV) silylamide Ce[N(SiHMe(2))(2)](4). When performed in the absence of donating (solvent) molecules, the trivalent cluster Ce(5)[N(SiHMe(2))(2)](8)Cl(7) was isolated.
