Abstract
The versatile rhenium complex [ReCl(CO)3(bpyC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CH)] (HC[triple bond, length as m-dash]Cbpy = 5-ethynyl-2,2'-bipyridine) is used to generate a series of bimetallic complexes through the hydrometallation of [MHCl(CO)(BTD)(PPh3)2] (M = Ru, Os; BTD = 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole). The ruthenium complex [Ru{CH[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-bpyReCl(CO)3}Cl(BTD)(CO)(PPh3)2] was characterised structurally. Ligand exchange reactions with bifunctional linkers bearing oxygen and sulfur donors provide access to tetra- and pentametallic complexes such as [{M{CH[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-bpyReCl(CO)3}(CO)(PPh3)2}2(S2CNC4H8NCS2)] and Fe[C5H4CO2M{CH[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-bpyReCl(CO)3}(CO)(PPh3)2]2. The effect of the group 8 metal on the photophysical properties of the rhenium centre was investigated using the complexes [Ru{CH[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-bpyReCl(CO)3}Cl(BTD)(CO)(PPh3)2] and [M{CH[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-bpyReCl(CO)3}{S2P(OEt)2}(CO)(PPh3)2] (M = Ru, Os). This revealed the quenching of the rhenium-based emission in favour of weak radiative processes based on the Ru and Os centres. The potential for exploiting this effect is illustrated by the reaction of [Ru{CH[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-bpyReCl(CO)3}Cl(CO)(BTD)(PPh3)2] with carbon monoxide, which results in a 5-fold fluorescence enhancement in the dicarbonyl product, [Ru{CH[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-bpyReCl(CO)3}Cl(CO)2(PPh3)2], as the quenching effect is disrupted.

Abstract
New gold(I) alkynyl metalloligands bpylCCAuL, bpyl'CCAuPPh3 , and PPN[Au(CCbpyl')2 ] (bpyl or bpyl'=2,2'-bipyridin-5-yl or -4-yl, respectively; L=PMex Ph3-x (x=1-3), P(C6 H3 Me2 -3,5)3 , PCy3 , XyNC) have been synthesized. Ligands bpylCCH and metalloligands bpylCCAuL (L=PPh3 , PMePh2 , PCy3 , CNXy) react with MX2 (M=Fe, Zn, X=ClO4 ; M=Co, X=BF4 ) to give complexes [M(bpylCCZ)3 ]X2 (Z=H or AuL). In most cases, these complexes are mixtures of fac and mer isomers in a statistical distribution, in both CH2 Cl2 and MeCN. However, for L=PPh3 , the fac isomer is dominant in MeCN. NMR and ESI-MS studies, together with the crystal structure of [Co(bpylCCAuPPh3 )3 ](BF4 )2 , suggest that this solvent dependence is originated by the formation of helical dimers between two fac complexes in MeCN. These dimers are stabilized by solvophobic effects and multiple intermolecular interactions. Complex [Fe(Ph3 PAuCCbpdiylCCAuPPh3 )3 ](ClO4 )2 (bpdiyl=2,2'-bipyridin-5,5'-diyl) was obtained by reaction of three diauro diethynylbipyridines and Fe(ClO4 )2 .

Abstract
The scope of organometallics has recently been expanded considerably, when researchers have started to employ these compounds in the context of materials chemistry. Traditionally, organometallic complexes have been and continue to be important tools for many (catalytic) chemical transformations. This perspective highlights how metal-rich organometallics, that is compounds with more than one type of metal, can play an important role in the advancement of new value-added functional materials.

Abstract
The rational, sequential synthesis of two hetero-bimetallic derivatives of the amino acid phenylalanine and one thymine (T) peptide nucleic acid (PNA) monomer is reported. Ferrocene carboxylic acid and (eta-ethene)bis(triphenylphosphine)platinum(0) were successfully reacted with propargylamide amino acid (1a and 1b) or a T PNA monomer derivative (6) to give the expected three bimetallic compounds 4a, 4b and 9 in good yield. An enzymatic route using cross-linked enzyme crystals (CLEC) of subtilopeptidase A in organic solvents gave the ferrocene carboxylate phenylalanine propargylamide precursor (Fc-CO-Phe-NH-CH(2)-CCH, 3a) in comparable yield and purity to the traditional deprotection-peptide coupling sequence. (31)P NMR spectra of these bioorganometallics showed two doublets with (195)Pt satellites corresponding to two chemically different (31)P atoms. Interestingly, in the case of the T PNA monomer derivative 9, these signals were also doubled in a 60 : 40 ratio as a consequence of the existence of two slowly interconverting isomers in solution. Furthermore, the single-crystal X-ray structures of 3a and the hetero-bimetallic phenylalanine derivative 4b were determined, showing the presence of the two organometallics moieties separated by ca. 8.5 A in 4b as well as illustrating the stability of such compounds.
