Abstract
Ambipolar materials such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, or 2D transition metal chalcogenides are very attractive for a large range of applications, namely, light-emitting transistors, logic circuits, gas sensors, flash memories, and solar cells. In this work, it is shown that the nanoarchitectonics of inorganic Mo6 cluster-based iodides enable to form thin films exhibiting photophysical properties that enable their classification as new members of the restricted family of ambipolar materials. Thus, the electronic properties of the ternary iodide Cs2[{Mo6I8i}I6a] and those of thin films of the aqua-complex-based compound [{Mo6I8i}I4a(H2O)2a]·xH2O were investigated through an in-depth photoelectrochemical study. Once hole/electron pairs are created, the holes and electrons turn to be transported simultaneously in opposite directions, and their lifetimes exhibit similar values. The ambipolar properties were demonstrated via the integration of [{Mo6I8i}I4a(H2O)2a]·xH2O as light harvesters in an all-solid solar cell. A significant photoresponse with a typical diode characteristic clearly provides evidence of the simultaneous transfer and transport of holes and electrons within the [{Mo6I8i}I4a(H2O)2a]·xH2O layer. The ambipolar behavior results, on the one hand, from the confinement of electrons imposed by the nanometric size of the molecular metal clusters and, on the other hand, from the poor electronic interactions between clusters in the solid state. Such molecular structure-based layers lead naturally to an intrinsic semiconducting behavior.

Abstract
Pyridine activation by inexpensive iron catalysts has great utility, but the steps through which iron species can break the strong (105-111 kcal mol-1 ) C-H bonds of pyridine substrates are unknown. In this work, we report the rapid room-temperature cleavage of C-H bonds in pyridine, 4-tert-butylpyridine, and 2-phenylpyridine by an iron(I) species, to give well-characterized iron(II) products. In addition, 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) undergoes room-temperature C-N bond cleavage, which forms a dimethylamidoiron(II) complex and a pyridyl-bridged tetrairon(II) square. These facile bond-cleaving reactions are proposed to occur through intermediates having a two-electron reduced pyridine that bridges two iron centers. Thus, the redox non-innocence of the pyridine can play a key role in enabling high regioselectivity for difficult reactions.

Abstract
This work presents the synthesis and studies of a red-NIR luminescent liquid crystal compound based on an octahedral metallic cluster core orthogonally bounded to six non-mesogenic organic ligands. It evidences synergetic effects between the organic and inorganic parts of the hybrid, resulting in the generation of liquid crystal properties on cooling from the isotropic melt.

Abstract
Metal atom clusters constitute very promising candidates as luminophores for applications in biotechnology because they are nanosized entities offering robust luminescence in the near-infrared field (NIR). However, they cannot be used as prepared for biological applications because of potential toxic effects and quenching of the clusters' luminescence in aqueous media, and they therefore need to be dispersed in a biocompatible matrix. We describe herein the encapsulation of octahedral rhenium clusters, denoted as A(4)[Re(6)Q(8)L(6)] (A = Cs or K, Q = S or Se, and L = OH or CN), in silica nanoparticles by a water-in-oil microemulsion process, paying particular attention to the clusters' stability. The obtained A(4)[Re(6)Q(8)L(6)]@SiO(2) nanoparticles are 30 nm in size with good monodispersity and a perfectly spherical shape, as shown by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The presence of cluster units inside the silica matrix was evidenced by scanning transmission electron microscopy in annular dark-field mode (ADF-STEM). From the point of view of their optical properties, the A(4)[Re(6)Q(8)L(6)]@SiO(2) nanoparticles show red and NIR emission under UV excitation, even when dispersed in water. The evolution of the structural and luminescence properties of clusters before and after encapsulation was followed by Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopy.

Abstract
The inclusion of (TBA)(2)Mo(6)Br(8)F(6) (TBA = tetrabutylammonium) containing [Mo(6)Br(8)F(6)](2-) cluster units within the pores of the mesoporous chromium carboxylate MIL-101 (MIL stand for Materials from Institut Lavoisier) has been studied. X-ray powder diffraction, thermal analysis, elemental analysis, solid-state NMR, and infrared spectroscopy have evidenced the successful loading of the cluster. In a second step, the hydrogen sorption properties of the model cluster loaded metal organic framework (MOF) system have been analyzed and compared to those of the pure MOF sample, through a combination of adsorption isotherms (77 K, room temperature), thermal desorption spectroscopy, and calorimetry (calculated and experimental) in order to evaluate the hydrogen storage efficiency of the cluster loading.
