A New 2-D Network Containing {As 4 V 16 O 42 (H 2 O)} Cluster Units

Three intersecting {V12} rings: {V30Sb8}, an ultra-large polyoxovanadate cluster shell

[VIV30SbIII8O78]12-, currently the largest known antimonato-polyoxovanadate (Sb-POV), features three perpendicular, intersecting 12-membered rings of edge-sharing O4V[double bond, length as m-dash]O square pyramids. While in two rings the apices of all O4V[double bond, length as m-dash]O pyramids point outwards, four apices of the third ring are directed into the cavity of the cluster shell, a concave structural motif not previously observed in polyoxovanadate chemistry. SbIII centers cap the eight niches defined by the octands of the {V30O78} cluster shell, resulting in discrete trigonal pyramidal SbO3 units, a second unprecedented feature. Within the resulting spin topology with numerous local geometrically frustrated motifs, the 30 spin-1/2 sites couple antiferromagnetically via a complex set of exchange pathways.

Two new 3-D cadmium bromoplumbates: the only example of heterometallic bromoplumbate based on crown [Cd(Pb4O4)Br2] clusters

This work provides the only example of 3-D heterometallic bromoplumbate based on the combination of heterometallic crown [Cd(Pb₄O₄)Br₂] clusters and dimeric [Pb₂Br₄] units.

Two novel metal borates with three-dimensional open-framework layers constructed from [M2B8O20(OH)2] (M = Al, Ga) cluster units

Two novel metal borates, Ba[MB4O8(OH)]·H2O (M = Al/Ga), with a three-dimensional open-framework layer have been synthesized under hydro(solvo)thermal conditions, in which the Al(3+)/Ga(3+) ions have been successfully introduced into the oxoboron cluster backbone and further linked together to form the open-framework layer composed of the [M2B8O20(OH)2] cluster units. The half-unit [MB4O11(OH)] can be viewed as analogous to the known [B5O9(OH)] cluster. Interestingly, the rare M-O-M linkages play a crucial role in forming the open-framework layer.
