Abstract
A Ni-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction between aryl fluorides and dialkyl phosphonates [HP(O)(OR)2] (R = secondary alkyl groups) in the presence of potassium tert-butoxide as a base is reported. The reaction converted various aryl fluorides into the corresponding aryl phosphonates even when electron-donating substituents were present on the aromatic ring. The combined experimental and computational studies suggested Ni-K+ cooperative action of a Ni(0) complex chelated with a strongly electron-donating ion-bridged dimeric phosphite ligand system [P(OR)2O-K+]2 that facilitates turnover-limiting C-F bond oxidative addition of aryl fluorides.

Abstract
The activation of a carbon-fluorine bond is one of the most challenging topics in modern synthetic organic chemistry due to their low reactivity compared to other carbon-halogen bonds. In this review, we present the recent developments since 2015 on cross-coupling reactions that form C-C bonds via cleavage of C(sp2 )-F bonds. Not only the conventional activation of C(sp2 )-F bonds, but also decarbonylative or carbonyl-retentive cleavage of C(acyl)-F bonds will be introduced. This paper mainly describes new protocols for the formation of C(sp2 )-C(sp3 ), C(sp2 )-C(sp2 ), and C(sp2 )-C(sp) bonds via transition-metal-catalyzed cleavage of C(sp2 )-F bonds.

Abstract
The hydrofluorocarbon 245 isomers, 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane, 1,1,1,2,2- pentafluoropropane, and 1,1,1,2,3-pentafluoropropane (HFC-245fa, HFC-245cb, and HFC-245eb) were activated through C–F bond activations using aluminium chlorofluoride (ACF) as a catalyst. The addition of the hydrogen source Et3SiH is necessary for the activation of the secondary and tertiary C–F bonds. Multiple C–F bond activations such as hydrodefluorinations and dehydrofluorinations were observed, followed by hydroarylation and Friedel–Crafts-type reactions under mild conditions.

Abstract
A palladium pre-catalyst, [Pd(PCy3)2] is reported for the efficient and selective C–F alumination of fluorobenzenes with the aluminium(i) reagent [{(ArNCMe)2CH}Al] (1, Ar = 2,6-di-iso-propylphenyl). The catalytic protocol results in the transformation of sp2 C–F bonds to sp2 C–Al bonds and provides a route to reactive organoaluminium complexes (2a–h) from fluorocarbons. The catalyst is highly active. Reactions proceed within 5 minutes at 25 °C (and at appreciable rates at even −50 °C) and the scope includes low-fluorine-content substrates such as fluorobenzene, difluorobenzenes and trifluorobenzenes. The reaction proceeds with complete chemoselectivity (C–F vs. C–H) and high regioselectivities (>90% for C–F bonds adjacent to the most acidic C–H sites). The heterometallic complex [Pd(PCy3)(1)2] was shown to be catalytically competent. Catalytic C–F alumination proceeds with a KIE of 1.1–1.3. DFT calculations have been used to model potential mechanisms for C–F bond activation. These calculations suggest that two competing mechanisms may be in operation. Pathway 1 involves a ligand-assisted oxidative addition to [Pd(1)2] and leads directly to the product. Pathway 2 involves a stepwise C–H → C–F functionalisation mechanism in which the C–H bond is broken and reformed along the reaction coordinate, guiding the catalyst to an adjacent C–F site. This second mechanism explains the experimentally observed regioselectivity. Experimental support for this C–H activation playing a key role in C–F alumination was obtained by employing [{(MesNCMe)2CH}AlH2] (3, Mes = 2,4,6-tri-methylphenyl) as a reagent in place of 1. In this instance, the kinetic C–H alumination intermediate could be isolated. Under catalytic conditions this intermediate converts to the thermodynamic C–F alumination product. A palladium pre-catalyst, [Pd(PCy3)2] is reported for the efficient and selective C–F alumination of fluorobenzenes with the aluminium(i) reagent [{(ArNCMe)2CH}Al] (Ar = 2,6-di-iso-propylphenyl).![]()

Abstract
The rhodium(i) complexes [Rh(Bpin)(PEt3)3] (1), [Rh(H)(PEt3)3] (5) and [Rh(Me)(PEt3)3] (14) were employed in reactions with pentafluorostyrene affording coordination of the olefin and C-F or C-H bond activation. Control of the reaction conditions allowed for selective activation reactions at different positions at the fluorinated aromatic ring. The rhodacycle trans-[Rh(F)(CH2CH2(2-C6F4))(PEt3)2] (7) was identified as an intermediate for an activation at the 2-position. Reactivity studies of the latter with CO led to the generation of trans-[Rh(F)(CH2CH2C6F4)(CO)(PEt3)2] (10). Stoichiometric and catalytic hydroboration reactions were achieved using complexes 1 or 5 as catalysts.

Abstract
The first examples of half-sandwich Rh(i) complexes stabilized by borane coordination have been prepared and structurally characterized. As substantiated by NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, the phosphine-borane ligand iPr2P-(o-C6H4)-BFxyl2 1 [Fxyl = 3,5-(F3C)2C6H3] engages in tight η3-BCC or η1-B coordination, depending on the metal environment.

Abstract
Friedel-Crafts benzylation of arenes with benzyl fluorides using 9-borabicyclo[3.3.l]nonane (9-BBN) as a mediator has been developed. This provides a simple and cheap route to the activation of C-F bonds to synthesize 1,1-diarylmethanes in good to excellent yields (up to 98%) under mild conditions. Functional group tolerance and the mechanism are considered.

Abstract
The rhodium(i) germyl complex [Rh(GePh3)(PEt3)3] is a useful tool for C–F and C–H bond activation reactions. For instance, treatment with hexafluoropropene results in the formation of two isomeric C–F activation products [Rh{(E)-CFCF(CF3)}(PEt3)3] and [Rh{(Z)-CFCF(CF3)}(PEt3)3] in a 3 : 1 ratio.

Abstract
The platinum(0) alkyne complexes [Pt(L)(η(2)-PhC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh)] 1-4 were synthesized by reactions of [Pt(cod)2] with diphenylacetylene and a phosphine ligand precursor (1: L = dcpe, 2: L = xantphos, 3: L = κ(2)-(P,N)-iPr2PC3H6NMe2, 4: L = κ(2)-(P,N)-iPr2PC2H4NMe2). Treatment of 1 or 4 with NFSI gave the complexes [Pt(F){N(SO2Ph)2}(dcpe)] (5) and [Pt(PhC[double bond, length as m-dash]CFPh){N(SO2Ph)2}{κ(2)-(P,N)-iPr2PC2H4NMe2}] (8), whereas the reactivity of 2 and 3 towards NFSI led to product mixtures. The compounds [Pt(F){N(SO2Ph)2}(xantphos)] (6a) as well as [Pt(PhC[double bond, length as m-dash]CFPh){N(SO2Ph)2}{κ(2)-(P,N)-iPr2PC2H4NMe2}] (7a) and [Pt(PhC[double bond, length as m-dash]CFPh)(F){κ(2)-(P,N)-iPr2PC2H4NMe2}] (7b) were clearly identified. Ligand exchange reactions at 8 resulted in the formation of the β-fluorovinyl platinum(ii) complexes [Pt(PhC[double bond, length as m-dash]CFPh){OC(O)CF3}{κ(2)-(P,N)-iPr2PC2H4NMe2}] (9), [Pt(PhC[double bond, length as m-dash]CFPh)(FHF){κ(2)-(P,N)-iPr2PC2H4NMe2}] (10) and [Pt(PhC[double bond, length as m-dash]CFPh)(F){κ(2)-(P,N)-iPr2PC2H4NMe2}] (11). Treatment of 8 with dihydrogen yielded the fluorinated olefin (Z)-(1-fluoroethene-1,2-diyl)dibenzene and [Pt{N(SO2Ph)2}(H){κ(2)-(P,N)-iPr2PC2H4NMe2}] (12).

Abstract
C-F functionalizations that provide C-C bonds are challenging synthetic transformations, due in part to the large C-F bond strength, short bond length, nonpolarizable nature, the production of fluoride, and the regioselectivity-in the case of multifluorinated substrates. However, commercially available highly fluorinated arenes possess great synthetic potential because they already possess the C-F bonds in the desired locations that would be difficult to selectively fluorinate. In order to take advantage of this potential, selective C-F functionalizations must be developed. Herein, we disclose conditions for the photocatalytic reductive alkylation of highly fluorinated arenes with ubiquitous and unactivated alkenes. The mild reaction conditions provide for a broad functional group scope, and the reaction is remarkably efficient using just 0.25 mol% catalyst. Finally, we demonstrate the utility of the strategy by converting highly fluorinated arenes to elaborate (hetero)arenes that contain 2-5 Caryl-F bonds via synergistic use of photocatalysis and SNAr chemistry.

Abstract
The rhodium(i) silyl carbonyl complexes [Rh{Si(OEt)3}(CO)(dippp)] () and [Rh{Si(OEt)3}(CO)(dippe)] () (dippp = 1,3-bis(diisopropylphosphino)propane, dippe = 1,2-bis-(diisopropylphosphino)ethane) were synthesized on treatment of the methyl compounds [Rh(CH3)(CO)(dippp)] () or [Rh(CH3)(CO)(dippe)] () with HSi(OEt)3 at low temperature. The methyl complexes and were prepared starting from the binuclear complexes [{Rh(μ-Cl)(dippp)}2] () and [{Rh(μ-Cl)(dippe)}2] (), respectively. The silyl complexes and as well as the precursors [{Rh(μ-I)(dippp)}2] (), [Rh(X)(CO)(dippp)] (: X = CH3, : X = I) and [Rh(X)(CO)(dippe)] (: X = CH3, : X = Cl) were characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy and the structures in the solid state were determined by X-ray crystallography. The silyl complex converts into the carbonyl-bridged complex [{Rh(μ-CO)(dippp)}2] () above temperatures of -30 °C by loss of the silyl ligand, whereas is more thermally stable and a reaction to the binuclear complex [{Rh(μ-CO)(dippe)}2] () was observed at 50 °C. The silyl complex reacted under irradiation with hexafluorobenzene and pentafluoropyridine to give the C-F activation products [Rh(C6F5)(CO)(dippe)] () and [Rh(2-C5F4N)(CO)(dippe)] (), respectively. As additional products the silyl dicarbonyl complex [Rh{Si(OEt)3}(CO)2(dippe)] () and the cationic complex [Rh2(μ-H)(μ-CO)2(dippe)2](+)[SiF5](-) () were identified. Compound was synthesized independently by treatment of with gaseous CO. In a similar manner, the dippp analogue [Rh{Si(OEt)3}(CO)2(dippp)] () was also prepared starting from . Photochemical reaction of with pentafluorobenzene and 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoropyridine resulted selectively in C-H bond activation to afford and [Rh(4-C5F4N)(CO)(dippe)] (), respectively.

Abstract
C-F activation of 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoropyridine at [Rh{Si(OEt)3}(PEt3)3] (1) yields [Rh{2-(3,5,6-C5F3HN)}(PEt3)3] (2) and FSi(OEt)3, but in an unprecedented consecutive reaction FSi(OEt)3 acts as a fluoride source to give [Rh(4-C5F4N)(PEt3)3] (4) by regeneration of the C-F bond and C-H activation. Analogous refluorination steps were observed for other 2-pyridyl rhodium complexes. NMR spectroscopic studies revealed a delicate balance between the feasibility for C-F bond formation accompanied by a C-H activation and the occurrence of competing reactions such as hydrodefluorinations induced by the intermediary presence of H2.
