Abstract
Our recently reported Ru(III)-NHC complexes 1a and 1b were utilized as suitable precursors to prepare new Ru(II)-NHC-(DMSO)2 complexes 2a and 2b. Complexes 2a and 2b reacted with 2,2'-bipyridine to give complexes 3a and 3b, respectively, with substitution of only one of the DMSO ligands. All new complexes were characterized using various spectroscopic techniques and the molecular structures of 2a and 3a were determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique. Complexes 2a, 2b, 3a, and 3b showed the S → O linkage isomerization of the DMSO ligand upon oxidation of the Ru centre from +II to +III, as confirmed by the thermodynamic and kinetic data obtained from cyclic voltammetry experiments. It was observed that in the bisdimethylsulfoxide complexes 2a and 2b, only one DMSO ligand isomerized, which was further corroborated by the computational studies performed to optimize the geometry of the possible linkage isomers of complexes 2a and 3a in +2 and +3 oxidation states, whereas complexes 3a and 3b showed a high preference for the O-bound isomer in the Ru(III) redox state. The role of NHC in stabilizing the mixed isomer in complexes 2a and 2b and preventing the isomerization of both DMSO ligands coordinated to the Ru centre was studied; moreover, NHC provided good solvent compatibility for photochemical S → O isomerization in all the complexes. Taking advantages of the photoinduced linkage isomerization in 2a and 2b, the synthesis of 3a and 3b was revisited and performed using 2a and 2b, respectively, following a photoinduced substitution reaction in the presence of 2,2'-bipyridine. The kinetics of the reversion from the O-bound to S-bound isomer was found to follow the DMSO-assisted intermolecular S → O isomerization pathway.

Abstract
Three Ru(II)-DMSO complexes (1-3) containing 2-(3-pyrazolyl)pyridine (PzPy), 2-pyrazol-3-ylfuran (PzO), or 2-pyrazol-3-ylthiophene (PzS) ligand, were synthesized and characterized. The monodentate coordination of the heterocyclic pyrazolyl ligand (PzPy) with Ru(II) ion via N atom was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 could be converted to the known η2-bidentate PzPy complex cis(Cl), cis(S)-[RuCl2(PzPy)(DMSO)2] (4) under reflux conditions. The mechanism underlying binding mode transformation was studied by 1H NMR spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The binding abilities of the complexes (1-4) with calf-thymus (CT) DNA and bovine serum albumin (BSA) were investigated using spectroscopic and molecular docking techniques. Among the four Ru(II) complexes, complexes 1 and 3 inhibited the long-term proliferation of human breast cancer cells, whereas complexes 2 and 4 did not inhibit their proliferation to a considerable extent. Interestingly, complexes 1 and 3 did not induce significant cell death but rather attenuated the clonogenicity of breast cancer cells by upregulating reactive oxygen species (ROS), endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and autophagic stress.

Abstract
In the present work, we describe an efficient method for the covalent anchoring of a Ru-dmso complex onto two types of supports: mesoporous silica particles (SP) and silica coated magnetic particles (MSNP). First, we have prepared and characterized the molecular complexes containing the bidentate pyridylpyrazole ligands pypz-Me and pypz-CH2COOEt, with the formula [RuIICl2(pypz-R)(dmso)2] (R = Me, 1; CH2COOEt, 2). Complex 2 was anchored onto the silica supports, yielding the heterogeneous systems SP@2 and MSNP@2 which were fully characterized by IR, UV-vis, SEM, TEM, TGA, and XPS techniques. Hydration of representative nitriles has been tested with the molecular complexes and their SP@2 and MSNP@2 heterogeneous counterparts, in aqueous medium under neutral conditions. The heterogeneous catalysts display high yields and excellent selectivity values. Both systems can be reused throughout several cycles for benzonitrile and acrylonitrile substrates, without any significant loss in reactivity. The MSNP@2 material can be easily recovered by a magnet, facilitating its reusability.

Abstract
The reaction of di-chlorido-tetra-kis-(dimethyl sulfoxide)-ruthen-ium(II) with N,N-bis[(pyridin-2-yl)meth-yl]methyl-amine aff-ords the title complex, [RuCl2(C13H15N3)(C2H6OS)]. The asymmetric unit contains a well-ordered complex mol-ecule. The N,N-bis-[(pyridin-2-yl)meth-yl]methyl-amine (bpma) ligand binds the cation through its two pyridyl N atoms and one aliphatic N atom in a facial manner. The coordination sphere of the low-spin d (6) Ru(II) is distorted octahedral. The dimethyl sulfoxide (dmso) ligand coordinates to the cation through its S atom and is cis to the aliphatic N atom. The two chloride ligands occupy the remaining sites. The bpma ligand is folded with the dihedral angle between the mean planes passing through its two pyridine rings being 64.55 (8)°. The two N-Ru-N bite angles of the ligand at 81.70 (7) and 82.34 (8)° illustrate the distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry of the Ru(II) cation. Two neighboring molecules are weakly associated through mutual intermolecular hydrogen bonding involving the O atom and one of the methyl groups of the dmso ligand. One of the chloride ligands is also weakly hydrogen bonded to a pyridyl H atom of another molecule.

Abstract
The new compound [Ru(II)([9]aneS3)(L)(dmso)]ClO4 ([]ClO4) ([9]aneS3 = 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane, HL = 9-hydroxyphenalenone, dmso = dimethylsulfoxide) has been structurally characterised to reveal almost equal C-O bond distances of coordinated L(-), suggesting a delocalised bonding situation of the β-diketonato ligand. The dmso ligand is coordinated via the sulfur atom in the native (1+) and reduced states (1 and 1-) as has been revealed by X-ray crystallography and by DFT calculations. Cyclic voltammetry of 1+ exhibits two close-lying one-electron oxidation waves at 0.77 V and 0.94 V, and two similarly close one-electron reduction processes at -1.43 V and -1.56 V versus SCE in CH2Cl2. The electronic structures of 1n in the accessible redox states have been analysed via experiments (EPR and UV-vis-NIR spectroelectrochemistry) and by DFT/TD-DFT calculations, revealing the potential for bidirectional non-innocent behaviour of coordinated L(˙/-/˙2-).
