Abstract
This study investigates the formation mechanisms of oligomeric phenyl silanols, focusing on polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and double-decker silsesquioxane (DDSQ) derivatives. Combining literature reports and crystal structures of solvated derivatives obtained in our laboratory, we show that the solvent choice significantly influences their structures. POSS-based silanols prefer aprotic solvents like THF, preserving dimerization, while double-deckers form stable architectures in protic solvents like isopropanol. This discrepancy arises from different stabilization mechanisms. Our findings enhance our understanding of hydrolytic condensation involving trimethoxyphenylsilane and suggest aprotic solvents for efficient reactions with POSS-based silanols.

Abstract
We report the series of G1 and G1.5 dendritic systems with mono-T8 SQs and DDSQ as specific types of dendron and dendrimer cores, respectively. The trivinyl- and tri(chloromethyl)-derivatives were obtained via hydrolytic condensation followed by the hydrosilylation reaction, optimized to yield selectively β-products. Their structures were confirmed by spectroscopic and XRD analyses. It is the first example of double-decker SQs used as cores for the construction of a low generation of dendrimer featuring specific dumbbell frameworks expanding in two or four directions.

Abstract
A convenient and scalable (gram-scale) route to unprecedented T8D2-double-decker siloxanes (DDSQs) bearing four chloro (3b) or four azido (5b) groups is reported. Both compounds were characterized and proved to undergo successful nucleophilic substitution for 3b (with iodide or azide) and copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne [3 + 2] cycloaddition for 5b. All of these transformations occurred under mild conditions, and the corresponding DDSQs were prepared in very high yields. Beyond the enhanced multivalency as compared to the previously described disubstituted D2T8 structures, the reported tetrafunctional DDSQs are formed as a single isomer and readily isolated in very high yields. Moreover, the tetra-azido DDSQ 5b constitutes a multipurpose nanobuilding block for the further preparation of new inorganic-organic hybrid materials where the covalent incorporation of a DDSQ moiety brings valuable properties.

Abstract
Novel polyhedral structures were prepared with a butterfly-shape composed of oligosiloxane wings and a double-decker silsesquioxane (DDSQ) body. The compounds were synthesized in two steps from commercially available alkoxysilanes, and their structures were confirmed using spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography. Not like other phenyl-substituted cage silsesquioxanes, these butterfly cages show very good solubility in common organic solvents. The crystal structures clearly showed their unique features: a larger space with longer siloxane chains and a very flexible framework. Moreover, these compounds are thermally stable with a Td5 (5 % weight loss temperature) over 320 °C.

Abstract
Anthracene-conjugated octameric silsesquioxane cages thermodynamically display intramolecular excimer formation, which can be used to identify anions through the change of fluorescence.
Anthracene-conjugated octameric silsesquioxane (AnSQ) cages, prepared via Heck coupling between octavinylsilsesquioxane (OVS) and 9-bromoanthracene, thermodynamically display intramolecular excimer emissions. More importantly, these hosts are sensitive to each anionic guest, thereby resulting in change of anthracene excimer formation, displaying the solvent-dependent fluorescence and allowing us to distinguish up to four ions such as F–, OH–, CN– and PO43– by fluorescence spectroscopy. Depending on the solvent polarity, for example, both F– and CN– quenched the fluorescence emission intensity in THF, but only F– could enhance the fluorescence in all other solvents. The presence of PO43– results in fluorescence enhancements in high polarity solvents such as DMSO, DMF, and acetone, while OH– induces enhancements only in low polarity solvents (e.g. DCM and toluene). A picture of the anion recognizing ability of AnSQ was obtained through principal component analysis (PCA) with NMR and FTIR confirming the presence of host–guest interactions. Computational modeling studies demonstrate the conformation of host–guest complexation and also the change of excimer formation. Detection of F–, CN– and OH– by AnSQ hosts in THF is noticeable with the naked eye, as indicated by strong color changes arising from charge transfer complex formation upon anion addition.

Abstract
A hexanuclear iron(II) siloxide complex has been prepared by reacting an incompletely condensed silsesquioxane first with NaOMe and then with Fe(OTf)2. In the process of product formation, the siloxane framework undergoes a transformation and it was shown that this happens already upon addition of base: Treatment of the ligand precursor with NaOMe leads to a completely condensed silsesquioxane cage with 12 Si atoms that is composed of 2 equiv of the tetrasiloxide ligands found in the product complex. Its iron centers form a two-dimensional array reminiscent of the situations found in minerals and two-dimensional oxide films caused by segregation of FeOx and silica. As the hexairon(II) assembly contains two high-spin square-planar FeO4 units-suggested to represent the active sites in Fe-zeolites, which react with N2O to generate strongly oxidizing sites-it was treated with Me3NO. This led to the oxidation of two of the iron centers to the oxidation state +III and elimination of one iron ion, so that a pentanuclear, mixed valent iron siloxide was formed. All complexes were fully characterized.

Abstract
A series of organo(alkoxy)disiloxanes was obtained by the reaction of CO2with sodium alkoxy(organo)silanolates under high pressure. It is suggested that the reaction involves intermediate formation of the carbonate derivative of sodium alkoxy(organo)silanolates.

Abstract
Organic-inorganic hybrid nano-building blocks of aromatic nitro-, aldehyde-, and bromo-functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes were easily prepared through nucleophilic substitutions, starting from the reactions between octakis(3-chloropropyl)octasilsesquioxane and phenoxide derivatives. These phenoxide anions not only supply the substitution functions to a silsesquioxane cage, but can also induce a cage-rearrangement leading to the formation of octa-, deca-, and dodecahedral silsesquioxane cages.

Abstract
Ethynyl-substituted siloxysilsesquioxanes are promising building blocks for a wide range of substances based on a POSS/DDSQ core, especially for (oligo-)polymer syntheses and modifications (the formation of hybrid materials with interesting photophysical and mechanical properties). In this study, we report on a series of new mono- and diethynylsiloxysilsesquioxanes formed via an efficient and highly selective one-pot process from silsesquioxanes with reactive Si-OH groups based on sequential condensation, hydrolysis, chlorination and substitution reactions. All newly synthesized compounds were isolated and characterized by spectroscopic methods.

Abstract
A series of functionalized dialkenylsilsesquioxanes were obtained by efficient and highly stereoselective silylative coupling and cross-metathesis of divinylsubstituted double-decker silsesquioxanes (DDSQ-2SiVi) with substituted styrenes and other olefins. Both reactions proceed highly stereoselectively and lead to nearly quantitative formation of E isomers. The optimized reaction conditions for styrene were adopted for successful silylative coupling polycondensation of DDSQ-2SiVi with 1,4-divinylbenzene yielding stereoregular cooligomer containing double-decker (silsesquioxyl-silylene)-vinylene-phenylene units.

Abstract
Novel organic-inorganic hybrid nanobuilding blocks of methacrylate- and acrylate-functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes were easily prepared via nucleophilic substitution on octakis(3-chloropropyl)octasilsesquioxane, using sodium methacrylate and sodium acrylate, respectively. From a practical standpoint, these cage-rearranged silsesquioxanes (T8, T10, and T12) could be readily isolated in their pure form with conventional silica gel column chromatography. Octakis(3-propyl methacrylate)octasilsesquioxane (T8) is a colorless, crystalline solid with a melting point of 66.7-67.2 °C, while other cage products are colorless viscous liquids at room temperature. Moreover, we report that the chemical structure/physical property relationship of silsesquioxane cages not only is dependent on the symmetry of the inorganic silsesquioxane core at a given temperature but also is dictated by the organic substituent mobility. Structures of the products were confirmed by (1)H, (13)C, and (29)Si NMR spectroscopy and high resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry analysis.
