Abstract
A novel heterometallic trinuclear cluster [CuII2MnII(cpdp)(NO3)2(Cl)] (1) has been designed and synthesized by employing a molecular library approach that uses CuCl2·2H2O and Mn(NO3)2·4H2O as inorganic metal salts and H3cpdp as a multifunctional organic scaffold (H3cpdp = N,N'-bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]-N,N'-bis[2-pyridylmethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol). This heterometallic cluster has emerged as an unusual ferromagnetic material and promising electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in the domain of inorganic and materials chemistry. Crystal structure analysis establishes the structural arrangement of 1, revealing a butterfly-like topology with an unusual seven-coordinated Mn(II) center. Formation of this cluster is accomplished by a self-assembly process through functionalization of 1 with one μ2:η1:η1-nitrate and two μ2:η2:η1-benzoate groups via the CuII(μ2-NO3)CuII} and {CuII(μ2-O2CC6H5)MnII} linkages, respectively. Variable-temperature SQUID magnetometry revealed the coexistence of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions in 1. The observed magnetic behavior in 1 is unexpected because of a large Cu-O-Mn angle with a value of 132.05°, indicating that the correlation between coupling constants and the structural parameters is a multifactor problem. This cluster shows excellent electrocatalytic performance for the HER attaining a current density of 10 mA/cm2 with a Tafel slope of 183 mV dec-1 at a 310 mV overpotential value. Essentially, cluster 1 shows exceptional electrochemical stability at ambient temperature, accompanied by minimal degradation of the current density as examined by chronoamperometric studies. Density functional theory calculations establish the mechanistic insight into the HER process, indicating that the CuII-OCO-MnII site is the active site for formation of molecular hydrogen.

Abstract
X-ray crystallography, spectroscopy, computational methods, molecular docking studies, and in vitro DNA-binding studies have been useful in the investigations of intermolecular and intramolecular interactions of osmium-cymene oxalato complexes with aryl phosphine and aryl phosphonium groups in both primary and secondary coordination spheres, respectively. Molecular structures of the novel complexes PPh4[Os(η6-p-cymene)Br(κ2-O,O'-C2O4)] (1) and [Os(η6-p-cymene) (κ2-O,O'-C2O4)PPh3] (2) were resolved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD). Primary and secondary coordination sphere contacts were investigated using Hirshfeld surface analysis which was supported by molecular docking (MD) studies. The MD data obtained predicted significant differences in binding energy across three receptors for the two osmium complexes. An in vitro DNA-binding study was accomplished using UV-Vis spectroscopy which showed that both 1 and 2 bond with DNA through an intercalation approach. The optimized molecular geometry, frontier molecular orbital (EHOMO and ELUMO) energies, global electrophilicity index (ω), chemical hardness (η), chemical potential (µ), and the energy band gap (EHOMO-ELUMO) were calculated utilizing density functional theory (DFT) methods. Computed structural parameters (bond lengths and angles) support the experimental single-crystal XRD data.

Abstract
The three discrete [Zn6] complexes [Na3Zn6(cpdp)3(μ-Bz)3(CH3OH)6][ZnCl4][ZnCl3(H2O)]·3CH3OH·1.5H2O (1), [Na3Zn6(cpdp)3(μ-p-OBz)3(CH3OH)6]·2H2O (2), and [Na3Zn6(cpdp)3(μ-p-NO2Bz)3(CH3OH)6]Cl3·2H2O (3), supported by the carboxylate-based multidentate ligand N,N'-bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]-N,N'-bis[2-pyridylmethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol (H3cpdp), have been successfully synthesized and fully characterized (Bz = benzoate; p-OBz = dianion of p-hydroxybenzoic acid; p-NO2Bz = p-nitrobenzoate). The complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, UV-vis, NMR spectroscopy, PXRD, and thermal analysis, including single-crystal X-ray crystallography of 1 and 2. The molecular architectures of 1-3 are built from the self-assembly of their corresponding [Zn2] units, which are interconnected to the central [Na3(CH3OH)6]3+ core by six endogenous benzoate groups, with each linking one Zn(II) and one Na(I) ion in a μ2:η1:η1-syn-anti bidentate fashion. The composition of the (cpdp3-)3/(Zn2+)6 complexes in 1-3 has been observed to be 1:2, on the basis of the UV-vis titration and NMR spectroscopic results, which is further supported by X-ray crystallography. Systematic biological studies performed with a mice model suggested possible antidiabetic efficacy as well as anticancer activities of the complexes. When complexes 1-3 were administered intraperitoneally in mice, 1 showed a lowering in the blood glucose level, overall maintenance of the pancreatic tissue mass, restriction of DNA damage in pancreatic cells, and retention of lipid droplet (LD) frequency, whereas 2 and 3 showed hepatic tissue mass consistency by inhibiting the DNA damage in hepatic cells, prior to the exposure to a potent diabetic inducer, alloxan (ALX). Similar trends of results were observed in inhibiting the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the pancreatic and hepatic cells, as examined by spectrofluorometric methods. Thus, 1 seems to be a better compound for overall diabetic management and control, whereas 2 and 3 seem to be promising compounds for designing chemopreventive drugs against hepatic carcinoma.

Abstract
Crude glycerol (C3H8O3) is a major by-product of biodiesel production from vegetable oils and animal fats. The increased biodiesel production in the last two decades has forced glycerol production up and prices down. However, crude glycerol from biodiesel production is not of adequate purity for industrial uses, including food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. The purification process of crude glycerol to reach the quality standards required by industry is expensive and dificult. Novel uses for crude glycerol can reduce the price of biodiesel and make it an economical alternative to diesel. Moreover, novel uses may improve environmental impact, since crude glycerol disposal is expensive and dificult. Glycerol is a versatile molecule with many potential applications in fermentation processes and synthetic chemistry. It serves as a glucose substitute in microbial growth media and as a precursor in the synthesis of a number of commercial intermediates or fine chemicals. Chlorinated derivatives of glycerol are an important class of such chemicals. The main focus of this review is the conversion of glycerol to chlorinated derivatives, such as epichlorohydrin and chlorohydrins, and their further use in the synthesis of additional downstream products. Downstream products include non-cyclic compounds with allyl, nitrile, azide and other functional groups, as well as oxazolidinones and triazoles, which are cyclic compounds derived from ephichlorohydrin and chlorohydrins. The polymers and ionic liquids, which use glycerol as an initial building block, are highlighted, as well.

Abstract
The reactions of 3,3'-{(pyridine-2,6-dicarbonyl)bis(azanediyl)}dibenzoic acid (H2L) with zinc(II), cadmium(II), and samarium(III) nitrates were studied, and the obtained compounds, [Zn(1κO:2κO'-L)(H2O)2] n (1), [Cd(1κO 2:2κO 2-L)(H2O)2]2 ⋅6n H2O⋅ n C4H8O2 ⋅1.5n DMF (2), and [Sm(1κO:2κO'O'':3κO'''-L)(NO3)(H2O)(dmf)] n ⋅ n DMF (3), were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Compounds 1 and 3 have 1D zigzag- and double-chain-type structures, respectively, whereas 2 features a dinuclear metallomacrocyclic complex. The ligand (L2-) orients in different conformations, that is, syn-syn for 1 and anti-anti for 2 and 3. Compound 1 is the first example in which the syn-syn conformation for this ligand has been observed. These compounds act as heterogeneous catalysts for the nitroaldol (Henry; in water medium) and Knoevenagel condensation reactions of different aldehydes, and the most effective is zinc coordination polymer 1. Recyclability, heterogeneity, and size-selectivity tests were performed, which showed that the catalyst was highly active over at least four recycling runs.

Abstract
The title compound, [CaCo2(C22H30N4O6)2](ClO4)2·1.36H2O or {Ca[Co(H-2L1)]2}·2ClO4·1.36H2O {where L1 is 4,10-bis-[(3-hy-droxy-4-pyron-2-yl)meth-yl]-1,7-dimethyl-1,4,7,10-tetra-aza-cyclo-dodecane}, is a trinuclear complex whose asymmetric unit comprises a quarter of the {Ca[Co(H-2L1)]2}2+ trinuclear complex, half of a perchlorate ion and 0.34-water mol-ecules. In the neutral [Co(H-2L1)] moiety, the cobalt ion is hexa-coordinated in a trigonal-prismatic fashion by the surrounding N4O2 donor set. A Ca2+ cation holds together two neutral [Co(H-2L1)] moieties and is octa-coordinated in a distorted trigonal-dodeca-hedral fashion by the surrounding O atoms belonging to the deprotonated oxide and carbonyl groups of two [Co(H-2L1)] units. The coordination of the CoII cation preorganizes L1 and an electron-rich area forms, which is able to host hard metal ions. The comparison between the present structure and the previously published ones suggests a high versatility of this ligand; indeed, hard metal ions with different nature and dimensions lead to complexes having different stoichiometry (mono- and dinuclear monomers and trinuclear dimers) or even a polymeric structure. The heterotrinuclear CoII-CaII-CoII complexes are connected in three dimensions via weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, which are also responsible for the inter-actions with the perchlorate anions and the lattice water mol-ecules. The perchlorate anion is disordered about a twofold rotation axis and was refined giving the two positions a fixed occupancy factor of 0.5. The crystal studied was refined as a two-component inversion twin [BASF parameter = 0.14 (4)].

In methanol-water, reactions of H3cpdp (H3cpdp = N,N'-Bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]-N,N'-Bis[2-pyridylmethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol) with copper(II) chloride in the presence of either NaOH/Na2HPO4·2H2O or KOH/Na2HAsO4·7H2O lead to the isolation of the tetranuclear complexes Na3[Cu4(cpdp)2(μ4-PO4)](OH)2·14H2O (1) and K2[Cu4(cpdp)2(μ4-AsO4)](OH)·162/3H2O (2), respectively. Similarly, the reaction of H3cpdp with zinc(II) chloride in the presence of NaOH/Na2HPO4·2H2O yields a tetranuclear complex, Na(H3O)2[Zn4(cpdp)2(μ4-HPO4)]Cl3·121/2H2O (3). All complexes are characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and other analytical techniques, such as Fourier transform infrared and UV-vis spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and electrochemical studies. The solid-state molecular framework of each complex contains two monocationic [M2(cpdp)]+ (M = Cu, Zn) units, which are exclusively coordinated to either phosphate/hydrogen phosphate or arsenate groups in a unique mode. All three complexes exhibit a μ4:η1:η1:η1:η1 bridging mode of the PO4 3-/HPO4 2-/AsO4 3- groups, with each bridging among four metal ions. The thermal properties of all three complexes have been investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. Low-temperature magnetic studies of complexes 1 and 2 disclose moderate antiferromagnetic interactions mediated among the copper centers through alkoxide and phosphate/arsenate bridges. Electrochemical studies of complexes 1 and 2 in dimethylformamide using cyclic voltammetry reveal the presence of a fairly assessable one-electron metal-based irreversible reduction and one quasireversible oxidation couple.
