Abstract
Pyridyl-triazolylidene ligands with variable donor properties were used as tunable ligands at a dihydride iridium (III) center. The straightforward synthesis of this type of ligand allows for an easy incorporation of electron-donating substituents in different positions of the pyridine ring or different functional groups such as esters, alkoxy, or aliphatic chains on the C4 position of the triazole heterocycle. The stability of these hydride metal systems allowed these complexes to be used as models for studying the influence of the ligand modifications on hydride reactivity. Spectroscopic analysis provided unambiguous structural assignment of the dihydride system. Modulation of the electronic properties of the wingtip substituents did not appreciably alter the reactivity of the hydrides. Reactivity studies using acids with a wide range of pK a values indicated a correlation between hydride reactivity and acidity and showed exclusive reactivity towards the less shielded hydride trans to the carbene carbon rather than the more shielded hydride trans to the pyridine ring, suggesting that the trans effect is more relevant in these reactions than the NMR spectroscopically deduced hydridic character.

Abstract
Water splitting for hydrogen production has been recognized as a promising approach to store sustainable energy. The performance of this method is limited by the oxygen-evolution reaction. Herein, an approach for synthesizing a highly active oxygen-evolving catalyst by a one-step, low-cost, environmentally friendly, and easy-to-perform method is presented, which works by using iridium metal as the anode at a relatively high potential. The obtained IrOx /Ir interface showed an overpotential of 250 mV at 10 mA cm-2 in 0.1 m HClO4 and remained stable under electrochemical conditions. The IrOx that was mechanically separated from the surface of IrOx /Ir metal after operation showed a threefold increase in activity compared to the current benchmark IrO2 catalyst. Various characterization analyses were used to identify the structure and morphology of the catalyst, which suggested nanosized, porous, and amorphous IrOx on the surface of metallic Ir. This synthetic approach can inspire a variety of opportunities to design and synthesize efficient metal oxide-based electrocatalysts for sustainable energy conversion and utilization.

Abstract
We report the effect of replacing the pyridine group in the chelating trz Ir-water oxidation catalysts by a benzoxazole and a thiazole moiety. We have also evaluated if the presence of bidentate ligands is crucial for high activities and to avoid the decomposition into undesired heterogeneous layers. The catalytic performance of these benzoxazole/thiazole-triazolidene Ir-complexes in water oxidation was studied at variable pH using either CAN (pH = 1) or NaIO4 (pH = 5.6 and 7). Electrocatalytic experiments indicated that while CAN-mediated water oxidation led to catalyst heterogeneization irrespective of the triazolylidene substituent, periodate as sacrificial oxidant preserved a homogeneously active species. Repetitive additions of sacrificial oxidant indicates higher integrity of the Ir-complex with a thiazole-substituted triazolylidene compared to ligands featuring a benzoxazole as chelating donor or no chelating group at all. Rigid chelation of the thiazole group was also established from stability measurements under highly acidic, oxidizing, and high ionic strength conditions.
