Abstract
A 3,5-didocosyloxybenzyl alcohol tag that was introduced at the anomeric position of the carbohydrate acceptor was applied in the assembly of a pentasaccharide. The intrinsic high solubility in nonpolar solvent and precipitation properties in polar solvent are crucial features of this tag. Thus, rapid and simple precipitation-centrifugation can be conducted throughout the synthetic route at each step to ease work-up and purification processes, and reduce the amount of solvent required. This method provides an efficient, environmental-friendly, and economical approach to synthesize complex oligosaccharides.

Abstract
Procedures using heptane-phase-selectively soluble octadecyldimethylsilyl groups to facilitate separations and silyl reagent regeneration are described. These results show that alcohols and alkynes protected by these groups are phase-selectively soluble in hydrocarbon solvents. In a thermomorphic cyclohexane/DMF system, >96% of the silylated alcohols are in the cyclohexane phase, allowing these compounds to be purified by a simple liquid/liquid extraction. Applications of these silylating agents in a Grignard synthesis and Sonogashira reaction are described.

General aspects such as theory of the MALDI process, matrices, derivatization, MALDI imaging, arrays and fragmentation are covered in the first part of the review and applications to various structural typed constitutes the remainder. The main groups of compound that are discussed in this section are oligo and polysaccharides, glycoproteins, glycolipids, glycosides and biopharmaceuticals. Many of these applications are presented in tabular form. Also discussed are medical and industrial applications of the technique, studies of enzyme reactions and applications to chemical synthesis.

Abstract
The use of thioglycosides and other glycan derivatives with anomeric sulfur linkages is gaining increasing interest, both in synthesis and in various biological contexts. Herein, we demonstrate the occurrence and circumvention of anomerization during 1-S-glycosylation reactions, and present highly efficient and stereocontrolled syntheses of a series of photoprobe-thiosaccharide conjugates. Mutarotation of glycosyl thiols proved to be the origin of the anomeric mixtures formed, and kinetic effects could be used to circumvent anomerization. The synthesized carbohydrate conjugates were then evaluated by both solution- and solid-phase-based techniques. Both binding results showed that the S-linked glyco-sides interact with their cognate lectins comparably to the corresponding O-analogs in the present cases, thus demonstrating the reliability of the solid-support platform built upon our photo-initiated carbohydrate immobilization method for probing protein bindings, and showing the potential of combining these two means for studying carbohydrate-protein interactions.

Abstract
A soluble tag-assisted liquid-phase peptide synthesis was successfully established based on simple hydrophobic benzyl alcohols, which can be easily prepared from naturally abundant materials. Excellent precipitation yields can be obtained at each step, combining the best properties of solid-phase and liquid-phase techniques. This approach can also be applied efficiently to fragment couplings, allowing chemical synthesis of several bioactive peptides.

Abstract
A soluble-support-assisted technique was successfully applied to electrochemical reactions, leading to anodic disulfide bond formation. The support-bound peptide was soluble in electrolyte solution, allowing electron transfer at the surface of the electrodes. After completion of the reaction, the support-bound product was recovered as a precipitate by simple dilution of the reaction mixture with poor solvent.

Abstract
A series of light-activatable perfluorophenylazide (PFPA)-conjugated carbohydrate structures have been synthesized and applied to glycoarray fabrication. The glycoconjugates were structurally varied with respect to anomeric attachment, S-, and O-linked carbohydrates, respectively, as well as linker structure and length. Efficient stereoselective synthetic routes were developed, leading to the formation of the PFPA-conjugated structures in good yields over few steps. The use of glycosyl thiols as donors proved especially efficient and provided the final compounds in up to 70% total yield with high anomeric purities. PFPA-based photochemistry was subsequently used to generate carbohydrate arrays on a polymeric surface, and surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi) was applied for evaluation of carbohydrate-protein interactions using the plant lectin Concanavalin A (Con A) as a probe. The results indicate better performance and equal efficiency of S- and O-linked structures with intermediate linker length.
