Abstract
In the presence of catalytic amounts of Pd nanoparticles, generated from Pd2dba3/Ag(I), cis-1,2-ditrimethylsilylarylethylenes undergo with aryl iodides a stereospecific Mizoroki-Heck arylation leading to trans-ditrimethylsilyldiarylethylenes. This chemoselectivity is in contrast to that of their trimethylgermyl analogues, which are arylated at the position of the C-Ge bonds. trans-1,2-Ditrimethylsilylarylethylenes are completely unreactive under the standard reaction conditions. The reaction tolerates the presence of boryl, silyl, or bromine substituents on the aryl iodides. From a mechanistic point of view, the process involves syn-arylpalladation followed by syn-dehydropalladation.

Abstract
Transition metal-catalyzed bissilylation reactions of alkynes with disilane reagents have become one of the most straightforward and efficient protocols to rapidly produce structurally diverse alkenyl silicon derivatives. In these reactions, the utilization of unsymmetrical disilane reagents provided the possibilities for reactivity enhancement as well as the synthetic merits in contrast to symmetrical disilane reagents. However, a major yet challenging objective is achieving precise control over the selectivity including the regioselectivity and the cis/trans-selectivity. Herein we realized the first divergent bissilylation of alkynoates with our developed air-stable disilane reagent 8-(2-substituted-1,1,2,2-tetramethyldisilanyl)quinoline (TMDQ) by means of synergistic Pd/Lewis acid catalytic system. The catalytic system precisely dictates the selectivity, resulting in the divergent synthesis of 1,2-bissilyl alkenes. The power of these 1,2-bissilyl alkenes serving as the key synthetic intermediates has been clearly demonstrated by rapid construction of diverse motifs and densely functionalized biologically active compounds. In addition, the origins of the switchable selectivities were well elucidated by experimental and computational studies on the reaction mechanism and were mainly attributed to different ligand steric effects, the use of the specific disilane reagent TMDQ and the different coordination modes of different Lewis acid with alkynoates.

Abstract
ConspectusWell-controlled olefin insertion is critical for achieving catalytic and productive bulk and fine-chemical synthesis. Developing efficient and selective methods for meeting diverse insertion demands is extremely noteworthy, as it supports numerous transformations. The challenges are related to improving catalyst performance and selectivity control and uniting previously unreactive substrate pairs to achieve higher molecular structural complexity and utility. Nickel catalysts have received persistent attention in higher substituted olefin synthesis and polymerization, and numerous new strategies have been established to fulfill the ever-changing demands. This Account focuses on the recent progress based on N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands and nickel catalysts in our laboratory in using simple terminal olefins as olefin donors or acceptors. It begins with a brief history of olefin codimerization and the major advances in hydrovinylation achieved by other research groups using ethylene as an olefin donor. It then describes problems related to the reductive elimination that can occur when both the hydrometalated alkene and NHC are on the catalyst. It emphasizes the impact of NHC catalyst generation methods on the competing reactivity. Next, it explains the principal challenges and great opportunities in using our method (with α-olefins as olefin donors and alkenyl sources) to replace intermolecular reductive hydroalkenylation reactions (which require rare and more expensive alkenyl halides and boronic acids as reactants, alongside a stoichiometric amount of metallic reagents). The Account then illustrates the potential uses of our method for solving challenging organic synthesis problems using tailor-made (NHC)Ni(II) catalysts to allow redox-neutral catalytic cycles based on high chemo- and regioselective cross-insertion controls. It shows that upon optimal steric and electronic cooperation between the NHC, olefin donor, and olefin acceptor, regiodivergent insertion and convergent synthesis can be achieved easily. In the course of our work, we uncovered several unique insights into regulating (anti-)Markovnikov hydronickelation, carbonickelation, hydrocarbonation, ring closure, 1,3-allyl shift, isomerization, and catalyst regeneration under green, neutral, and mild-temperature conditions. These insights are also outlined here, along with theoretical calculations that offer additional understandings of the insertion reactivity and selectivity differences observed between the NHC and the highly related phosphorus-based Ni(II) hydride-catalyzed cross-hydroalkenylation and cycloisomerization systems.Compared to traditional olefin and cyclic structure synthesis technology, such as olefin cross-metathesis, enyne cyclization, and cross-coupling reactions, the new catalyst systems often offer previously inaccessible product structural characteristics, substrate scope, and outcomes. In particular, the method is effective for the catalytic synthesis of unsymmetrical and functionalized 1,1-disubstituted olefins (a.k.a. gem-olefins), 1,4-dienes (a.k.a. skipped dienes), conjugated dienes, endo- and exocyclic olefins, fused and spiro rings, and aromatic products. These syntheses are variously achieved by cross-hydroalkenylation, insertion-induced rearrangement, cycloadditions, and other approaches inspired by our investigations and detailed in this Account. Cross-hydroalkenylation can be achieved with high enantioselectivity by application of carefully designed and structurally flexible C1 and C2 chiral NHC ligands, yielding a pool of chiral branched alkenes and 1,4-dienes directly from simple chemical feedstocks used in industry. This Account will draw further attention to green alkenylation and the related development of redox-neutral catalytic cycles.

Abstract

While the formation
and breaking of transition metal (TM)–carbon
bonds plays a pivotal role in the catalysis of organic compounds,
the reactivity of inorganometallic species, that is, those involving
the transition metal (TM)–metalloid (E) bond, is of key importance
in most conversions of metalloid derivatives catalyzed by TM complexes.
This Review presents the background of inorganometallic catalysis
and its development over the last 15 years. The results of mechanistic
studies presented in the Review are related to the occurrence of TM–E
and TM–H compounds as reactive intermediates in the catalytic
transformations of selected metalloids (E = B, Si, Ge, Sn, As, Sb,
or Te). The Review illustrates the significance of inorganometallics
in catalysis of the following processes: addition of metalloid–hydrogen
and metalloid–metalloid bonds to unsaturated compounds; activation
and functionalization of C–H bonds and C–X bonds with
hydrometalloids and bismetalloids; activation and functionalization
of C–H bonds with vinylmetalloids, metalloid halides, and sulfonates;
and dehydrocoupling of hydrometalloids. This first Review on inorganometallic
catalysis sums up the developments in the catalytic methods for the
synthesis of organometalloid compounds and their applications in advanced
organic synthesis as a part of tandem reactions.

Abstract
Cross-electrophile C-Si coupling has emerged as a promising tool for the construction of organosilanes, but the potential of this method remains largely unexplored. Herein, we report a C(sp3)-Si coupling of unactivated alkyl bromides with vinyl chlorosilanes. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions, and it offers a new approach to alkylsilanes. Functionalities such as Grignard-sensitive groups (e.g., acid, amide, alcohol, ketone, and ester), acid-sensitive groups (e.g., ketal and THP protection), alkyl fluoride and chloride, aryl bromide, alkyl tosylate and mesylate, silyl ether, and amine were tolerated. Incorporation of the -Si(vinyl)R2 moiety into complex molecules and the immobilization of a glass surface by formed organosilanes were demonstrated.

Abstract
A new method for the repetitive batch silylative coupling (trans-silylation) of vinylsilanes with vinyl boronates in the presence of Ru(CO)Cl(H)(PCy3)2 immobilized in poly(ethylene glycols) (PEGs) has been developed. Three PEGs (PEG600, PEG2000, and MPEG2000) with different molecular weights and end groups (MW = 600-2000) were tested as solvents and immobilization media, while an aliphatic solvent (n-hexane or n-heptane) or supercritical CO2 was used for product extraction. By applying 2 mol % of the Ru-H catalyst, it was possible to carry out up to 15 complete runs, with the predominant formation of 1-boryl-1-silylethenes. This immobilization strategy permitted for catalyst reuse and obtaining higher TON values (approximately 660-734) compared to the reaction in conventional solvents (∼50). Detailed kinetic studies of the most effective catalytic system were performed to determine catalyst activity and stability. Moreover, the reactions were carried out in an MPEG2000/scCO2 biphasic system, positively influencing the process sustainability.

Abstract
Oxidative sulfonamidation of divinylsilanes with various sulfonamides in different solvents is reported. With t-BuOI as an oxidant, halogenation is the main process, whereas aziridines are the minor products. With NBS in CH2Cl2 the products of bromination or bromosulfonamidation were obtained, whereas in MeCN or THF the Ritter-type solvent interception products are formed. The obtained bromosulfonamidation products undergo base-induced cyclization to various heterocycles, including imidazolines, 1,4-oxazocanes, or Si,N-containing heterocycles of a new type, 1,3,5-diazasilinanes, in up to quantitative yield.

Abstract
Activation of the dialkylpalladium complex (phen)Pd(CH3)2 (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) with B(C6F5)3 affords a competent catalyst for the dimerization of vinyl silanes. All organic products of the catalytic dimerization of trialkoxyvinylsilanes were characterized by in situ NMR spectroscopy and GC–MS. The putative palladium cation was characterized by NMR spectroscopy. Upon activation, the palladium complex generated products in moderate yield (60–70%) and selectivity (~60:40, dimer:disproportionation products).

Abstract
Via a cooperation of NHC, Si substituents and a M center, β-Si elimination was attenuated, revealing a new way to attain a high Ni-β-SiR(3):Ni-σ-SiR(3) ratio. The scope is illustrated by a head-to-tail vinylsilane-α-olefin hydroalkenylation.
