Metal-free intramolecular hydroarylation of alkynes

An efficient metal-free intramolecular hydroarylation reaction of alkynes is described here. A series of aryl and N-group attached alkynes generated the intramolecular hydroarylation products in high yields.

Recent Advances in Microwave-Assisted Copper-Catalyzed Cross-Coupling Reactions

Cross-coupling reactions furnishing carbon–carbon (C–C) and carbon–heteroatom (C–X) bond is one of the most challenging tasks in organic syntheses. The early developed reaction protocols by Ullmann, Ullman–Goldberg, Cadiot–Chodkiewicz, Castro–Stephens, and Corey–House, utilizing elemental copper or its salts as catalyst have, for decades, attracted and inspired scientists. However, these reactions were suffering from the range of functional groups tolerated as well as severely restricted by the harsh reaction conditions often required high temperatures (150–200 °C) for extended reaction time. Enormous efforts have been paid to develop and achieve more sustainable reaction conditions by applying the microwave irradiation. The use of controlled microwave heating dramatically reduces the time required and therefore resulting in increase in the yield as well as the efficiency of the reaction. This review is mainly focuses on the recent advances and applications of copper catalyzed cross-coupling generation of carbon–carbon and carbon–heteroatom bond under microwave technology.

Nanofibrils of a CuII-Thiophenyltriazine-Based Porous Polymer: A Diverse Heterogeneous Nanocatalyst

Herein, we report knitting of a thiophenyltriazine-based porous organic polymer (TTPOP) with high surface area and high abundance of nitrogen and sulfur sites, synthesized through a simple one-step Friedel-Crafts reaction of 2,4,6-tri(thiophen-2-yl)-1,3,5-triazine and formaldehyde dimethyl acetal in the presence of anhydrous FeCl₃, and thereafter grafting of Cu(OAc)₂·H₂O in the porous polymer framework to achieve the potential catalyst (Cu^II-TTPOP). TTPOP and Cu^II-TTPOP were characterized thoroughly utilizing solid-state ¹³C-CP MAS NMR, Fourier transform infrared, wide-angle powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and surface imaging by transmission electron microscopy and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The porosity of the nanomaterials was observed in the surface imaging and verified through conducting N₂ gas adsorption techniques. Keeping in mind the tremendous importance of C-C and C-N coupling and cyclization processes, the newly synthesized Cu^II-TTPOP was employed successfully for a wide range of organic catalytic transformations under mild conditions to afford directly valuable diindolylmethanes and spiro-analogues, phthalimidines, propargyl amines, and their sugar-based chiral compounds with high yields using readily available substrates. The highly stable new heterogeneous catalyst showed outstanding sustainability, robustness, simple separation, and recyclability.

Substitution-Controlled Selective Formation of Hexahydrobenz[ e]isoindoles and 3-Benzazepines via In(OTf)3-Catalyzed Tandem Annulations

A dramatic N-substituent controlled tandem annulation of 2-(2-(2-bromoethyl)phenyl)-1-sulfonylaziridines with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds has been developed. When the N-substituent was a 4-methylbenzenesulfonyl group (Ts), sequential ring opening of aziridines, nucleophilic substitution, and lactamization took place to provide a series of hexahydrobenz[ e]isoindole compounds in good yields with good diastereoselectivities. By contrast, 3-benzazepine compounds were afforded in good yields via ring opening of aziridines and nucleophilic substitution when the N-substituent was the 4-nitrobenzenesulfonyl group (Ns).

Synthesis and Reactivity of Propargylamines in Organic Chemistry

Propargylamines are a versatile class of compounds which find broad application in many fields of chemistry. This review aims to describe the different strategies developed so far for the synthesis of propargylamines and their derivatives as well as to highlight their reactivity and use as building blocks in the synthesis of chemically relevant organic compounds. In the first part of the review, the different synthetic approaches to synthesize propargylamines, such as A³ couplings and C-H functionalization of alkynes, have been described and organized on the basis of the catalysts employed in the syntheses. Both racemic and enantioselective approaches have been reported. In the second part, an overview of the transformations of propargylamines into heterocyclic compounds such as pyrroles, pyridines, thiazoles, and oxazoles, as well as other relevant organic derivatives, is presented.

Microwave-Assisted Syntheses of Bioactive Seven-Membered, Macro-Sized Heterocycles and Their Fused Derivatives

This review describes the recent advances in the microwave-assisted synthesis of 7-membered and larger heterocyclic compounds. Several types of reaction for the cyclization step are discussed: Ring Closing Metathesis (RCM), Heck and Sonogashira reactions, Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling, dipolar cycloadditions, multi-component reactions (Ugi, Passerini), etc. Green syntheses and solvent-free procedures have been introduced whenever possible. The syntheses discussed herein have been selected to illustrate the huge potential of microwave in the synthesis of highly functionalized molecules with potential therapeutic applications, in high yields, enhanced reaction rates and increased chemoselectivity, compared to conventional methods. More than 100 references from the recent literature are listed in this review.

Unprecedented one-pot multicomponent synthesis of propargylamines using Amberlyst A-21 supported CuI under solvent-free conditions

An environmentally benign, one-pot, A³-coupling reaction of various aldehydes, amines and terminal alkynes for the synthesis of propargylamine was catalysed by Amberlyst A-21 supported CuI, under heterogeneous and solvent-free conditions.

Copper(II) catalyzed expeditious synthesis of furoquinoxalines through a one-pot three-component coupling strategy

Microwave assisted one-pot transformation has been developed for the synthesis of biologically significant polysubstituted furoquinoxalines in good to excellent yields through a copper(II) catalyzed three-component coupling of o-phenylenediamine, ethylglyoxalate, and terminal alkyne, known as A(3)-coupling, followed by 5-endo-dig cyclization.

Manganese(ii) chloride catalyzed highly efficient one-pot synthesis of propargylamines and fused triazoles via three-component coupling reaction under solvent-free condition

A one-pot green and highly efficient method for the synthesis of propargylamines and distereoselective synthesis of fused triazoles via three-component coupling in the presence of manganese(ii) chloride and a catalyst-free 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction without using a co-catalyst is reported.
