Abstract
Chiral phosphoric acids (CPAs) are among the most frequently used organocatalysts, with an ever-increasing number of applications. However, these catalysts are only obtained in a multistep synthesis and are poorly recyclable, which significantly deteriorates their environmental and economic performance. We herein report a conceptually different, general strategy for the direct immobilization of CPAs on a broad scope of solid supports including silica, polystyrene, and aluminum oxide. Solid-state catalysts were obtained in high yields and thoroughly characterized with elemental analysis by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), nitrogen sorption measurements, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning transmission electron microscopy/energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (STEM/EDX) images, and solid-state NMR spectroscopy. Further, the immobilized catalysts were applied to a variety of synthetically valuable, highly stereoselective transformations under batch and flow conditions including transfer hydrogenations, a Friedländer condensation/transfer hydrogenation sequence, and Mannich reactions under cryogenic flow conditions. Generally, high yields and stereoselectivities were observed along with robust catalyst stability and reusability. After being used for 10 runs under batch conditions, no loss of selectivity or catalytic activity was observed. Under continuous-flow conditions, the heterogeneous system was in operation for 19 h and the high enantioselectivity remained unchanged throughout the entire process. We expect our approach to extend the applicability of CPAs to a higher level, with a focus on flow chemistry and a more environmentally friendly and resource-efficient use of these powerful catalysts.

Abstract
In this study, we have delved into various reactions conducted using green solvents or under solvent-free conditions, employing hydrogen bonding organocatalysis to advance more sustainable practices in chemical synthesis. The outcomes suggest that cyclopentyl methyl ether could potentially replace non-polar organic solvents such as hexane and toluene with comparable enantioselectivity and yields. The non-polar nature of liquefied or supercritical CO2 restricts its application to reactions that require non-polar solvents. Furthermore, pursuing solvent-free conditions, even without liquid substrates, might result in similar conversion rates with reduced catalyst loading. These findings highlight the potential of exploring solvent-free conditions when enantioselectivity is not of concern. Based on the results, solvent-free conditions and bio-based solvents can serve as viable alternatives to conventional organic solvents without compromising performance. This is expected to influence the way chemists approach reaction optimisation within method development in the field, fostering a broader adoption of environmentally friendly approaches.

Abstract
Conjugated trienes are fascinating building blocks for the rapid construction of complex polycyclic compounds. However, limited success has been achieved due to the challenging regioselectivity control. Herein, we report an enantio- and diastereoselective process allowing to regioselectively control the functionalization of NH-triene-carbamates. Synthesis of chiral cis-3,6-dihydro-2H-1,2-oxazines is achieved by a chiral phosphoric acid catalyzed Nitroso-Diels-Alder cycloaddition involving [(1E,3E,5E)-hexa-1,3,5-trien-1-yl]carbamates. Moreover, modular access to three different regioisomers with excellent diastereoselectivities and high to excellent enantioselectivities is obtained by a careful choice of the reaction conditions. A computational study reveals that the regioselectivity is influenced by the steric demand of the substituents at the 6-position of the triene, as well as noncovalent interactions between the two cycloaddition partners. Utility of each regioisomeric cycloadduct is highlighted by a variety of synthetic transformations.

Abstract
Herein, atropisomeric 8-aryltetrahydroisoquinolines have been synthesized and biologically evaluated. Based on our structure-activity relationship study, a highly bioactive racemic compound has been produced, and it exhibited high antiproliferative activities against various cancer cell lines, including docetaxel-resistant breast cancer cell lines. Each enantiomer can be synthesized in an enantioselective manner by employing the chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed atroposelective Pictet-Spengler cyclization. An axially (R)-configured enantiomer showed a higher biological activity compared with the axially (S)-configured enantiomer. Further biological studies suggested that the (R)-enantiomer overcomes docetaxel resistance via the downregulation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 activation and consequently induces cellular apoptosis in docetaxel-resistant triple-negative breast cancer cell lines.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation has proven to be a powerful method for the preparation of a wide variety of chiral molecules. However, the catalytic and atroposelective allylic alkylation is still rare and challenging, especially for biaryl substrates. Herein, we report the palladium-catalyzed desymmetric and atroposelective allylation, in which the palladium complex with a chiral phosphoramidite ligand enables desymmetrization of nucleophilic 2-arylresorcinols in a highly enantioselective manner. With the aid of the secondary kinetic resolution effect, a wide variety of substrates containing a hydroxymethyl group at the bottom aromatic ring are able to provide O-allylated products up to 98:2 er. Computational studies show an accessible quadrant of the allylpalladium complex and provide three plausible transition states with intra- or intermolecular hydrogen bonding. The energetically favorable transition state is in good agreement with the observed enantioselectivity and suggests that the catalytic reaction would proceed with an intramolecular hydrogen bond.

Abstract
Asymmetric electrophilic reactions provide an ideal method for the construction of chiral molecules by incorporating one or more functional groups into the parent substrates under mild conditions. However, due to the issues of the reactivities of electrophilic species and the possible racemization of chiral intermediates as well as the restriction of the chiral scaffolds of chiral catalysts, many limitations remain in this field, such as the narrow scopes of substrates and electrophiles as well as the limited types of nucleophiles and reactions. To overcome the limitations in the synthesis of diversified chiral molecules, we developed a series of indane-based chiral amino aryl chalcogenide catalysts. These catalysts are easily prepared based on the privileged chiral indane scaffold. They can provide an appropriate H-bonding effect by varying the amino protecting groups as well as offer a proper Lewis basicity and steric hindrance by adjusting different substituents on the aryl chalcogenide motifs. These features allow for them to meet the requirements of reactivity and the chiral environment of the reactions. Notably, they have been successfully applied to various asymmetric electrophilic reactions of alkenes, alkynes, and arenes, expanding the field of electrophilic reactions.Using these catalysts, we realized the enantioselective CF3S-lactonization of olefinic carboxylic acids, enantioselective CF3S-aminocyclization of olefinic sulfonamides, desymmetrizing enantioselective CF3S-carbocyclization of gem-diaryl-tethered alkenes, enantioselective CF3S-oxycyclization of N-allylamides, enantioselective intermolecular trifluoromethylthiolating difunctionalization and allylic C-H trifluoromethylthiolation of trisubstituted alkenes, formally the intermolecular CF3S-oxyfunctionalization of aliphatic internal alkenes, intermolecular azidothiolation, oxythiolation, thioarylation of N-allyl sulfonamides, desymmetrizing enantioselective chlorocarbocyclization of aryl-tethered diolefins, enantioselective Friedel-Crafts-type electrophilic chlorination of N-allyl anilides, and enantioselective chlorocarbocyclization and dearomatization of N-allyl 1-naphthanilides. Additionally, the enantioselective electrophilic carbothiolation of alkynes to construct enantiopure carbon chirality center-containing molecules and axially chiral amino sulfide vinyl arenes and the electrophilic aromatic halogenation to produce P-chirogenic compounds can be accomplished. In these reactions, a bifunctional binding mode is proposed in the catalytic cycles, in which an acid-derived anion-binding interaction might exist and account for the high enantioselectivities of the reactions. In this Account, we demonstrate our achievements in asymmetric electrophilic reactions and share our thoughts on catalyst design, our understanding of asymmetric electrophilic reactions, and our perspectives in the field of chiral chalcogenide-catalyzed asymmetric electrophilic reactions. We hope that the experience we share will promote the design and development of other novel organocatalysts and new challenging reactions.

Abstract
The catalytic reaction of biaryl lactams with activated isocyanides is reported for the first time. By employing a cooperative catalytic system, oxazole-containing axially chiral biaryl anilines were obtained in high yields with excellent enantioselectivities. The key to the success lies in the atroposelective amide C-N bond cleavage with activated isocyanides.

Abstract
A new class of axially chiral styrene-based thiourea tertiary amine catalysts, which have unique characteristics such as an efficient synthetic route, multiple chiral elements, and multiple activating groups, has been rationally designed. These new chiral catalysts have proven to be efficient organocatalysts, enabling the chemo-, diastereo-, and enantioselective (2+4) cyclization of 2-benzothiazolimines with homophthalic anhydrides in good yields (up to 96 %) with excellent stereoselectivities (all >95:5 dr, up to 98 % ee). More importantly, theoretical calculations elucidated the important role of an axially chiral styrene moiety in controlling both the reactivity and enantioselectivity. This work not only represents the first design of styrene-based chiral thiourea tertiary amine catalysts and the first catalytic asymmetric (2+4) cyclization of 2-benzothiazolimines, but also gives an in-depth understanding of axially chiral styrene-based organocatalysts.

Abstract
Several novel binaphthyl-based chiral hypervalent iodine(III) reagents have been prepared and structurally analysed. Various asymmetric oxidative reactions were applied to evaluate the reactivities and stereoselectivities of those reagents. Moderate to excellent yields were observed; however, very low stereoselectivities were obtained. NMR experiments indicated that these reagents are very easily hydrolysed in either chloroform or DMSO solvents leading to the limited stereoselectivities. It is concluded that the use of chiral ligands is an unsuccessful way to prepare efficient stereoselective iodine(III) reagents.

Abstract
A diastereodivergent and enantioselective synthesis of chiral spirocyclohexyl-indolenines with four contiguous stereogenic centers is achieved by a chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed cycloaddition of 2-susbtituted 3-indolylmethanols with 1,3-dienecarbamates. Modular access to two different diastereoisomers with high enantioselectivities was obtained by careful choice of reaction conditions. Their functional group manipulation provides an efficient access to enantioenriched spirocyclohexyl-indolines and -oxindoles. The origins of this stereocontrol have been identified using DFT calculations, which reveal an unexpected mechanism compared to our previous work dealing with enecarbamates.

Abstract
An unprecedented example of a chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed atroposelective Pictet-Spengler reaction of N-arylindoles is reported. Highly enantioenriched N-aryl-tetrahydro-β-carbolines with C-N bond axial chirality are obtained via dynamic kinetic resolution. The hydrogen bond donor introduced on the bottom aromatic ring, forming a secondary interaction with the phosphoryl oxygen, is essential to achieving high enantioselectivity. A wide variety of substituents are tolerable with this transformation to provide up to 98 % ee. The application of electron-withdrawing group-substituted benzaldehydes enables the control of both axial and point stereogenicity. Biological evaluation of this new and unique scaffold shows promising antiproliferative activity and emphasizes the significance of atroposelective synthesis.

Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) are a kind of promising extractants for removing undesirable organics from industrial wastewater and crude oil, etc. Herein, IL regeneration by ozonation was proposed for its recycling. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([Bmim]BF4) and phenol were used as the representative IL and organic matter, respectively. The regeneration performance, stability of [Bmim]BF4, and roles of hydrogen bonds between O3 and [Bmim]BF4 in the phenol removal were studied. The experimental results showed that 90.2% of phenol was degraded in [Bmim]BF4 after ozonation treatment for 30 min with the O3 concentration of 1.2 mg/L. The nonvolatility of [Bmim]BF4-made phenol was adequately degraded, while the concentration of phenol increased during ozone treatment in the conventional extractants (ethanol, ethyl acetate, and dichloromethane) due to their high volatility. The reuse experiments, spectra of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy indicated that [Bmim]BF4 was steady under the ozonation process. Density functional theory simulation confirmed that hydrogen bonds between [Bmim]+ and O3 could be formed, and calculational results of Hirshfeld charges indicated that the nucleophilicity of O3 was enhanced by the hydrogen bonds. The enhanced nucleophilicity resulted in the increase of phenol degradation efficiency by ozonation, and the synergistic effect between O3 and ILs was proportional to the hydrogen bond donor ability of ILs.

Abstract
Design and development of a domino cyclative approach for the synthesis of new polycyclic γ-butenolides from β-aryl-Z-enoate propargylic alcohols, through the interception of an intermediate of the Z-enoate-assisted Meyer-Schuster rearrangement, has been reported. A systematic NMR analysis of various derivatives of this class revealed and supported the potential atropisomerism associated with them. These molecules represent first examples of butenolide ring-based atropisomeric compounds in organic chemistry. The synthetic process involves a synchronous construction of both rings with concurrent creation of the potential stereogenic rotational axis.

Abstract
A new family of chiral chimeric photo-organocatalysts derived from phosphoric acid were synthesized and their spectroscopic and electrochemical properties were investigated. Then, the ability of these photo-activable molecules to catalyse an asymmetric tandem electrophilic β-amination of enecarbamates was evaluated. A new family of chimeric chiral photocatalysts in which a BINOL derived phosphoric acid embeds one or two photosensitizer dyes was prepared. We have demonstrated their ability to catalyse an enantioselective electrophilic amination reaction.![]()

Abstract
Since the emergence of pseudo-C2-symmetric chiral phosphoric acids (CPA), much work has been done to utilize these systems in stereoselective, organocatalytic processes. Despite the success in this field, reasonably basic substrates such as imines are often required to achieve appreciable activation. In order to access a wider variety of potential reaction partners, many related organocatalysts with enhanced Brønsted acidity have since been developed. Chiral disulfonimides (DSIs) have materialized as one such powerful class of organocatalysts and have been shown to expand the list of potential substrates to include aldehydes and ketones via Brønsted, Lewis, or bifunctional acid activation. This versatility renders DSIs amenable to an impressive scope of reaction types, typically with remarkable stereoselectivity induced by asymmetric counteranion-directed catalysis (ACDC). This review serves to provide a complete analysis of the successful applications, mechanistic insights, and unmet challenges exhibited to date in DSI-catalyzed and -assisted processes.

Abstract
Chiral phosphoric acid based organocatalysis and visible-light photocatalysis have both emerged as promising technologies for the sustainable production of fine chemicals. In this context, we have envisioned the design and the synthesis of a new class of chimeric catalytic entities that would feature both catalytic capabilities. Given their multitask nature, such catalysts would be particularly attractive for the development of new catalytic transformations, tandem processes in particular. Toward this goal, several BINOL-based chiral phosphoric acid backbones presenting one or two visible-light-sensitive thioxanthone moieties have been prepared and studied. The utility of these new photoactive chiral organocatalysts is then demonstrated in the enantioselective tandem three-component electrophilic amination of enecarbamates. Of note, the C1-symmetric organo/photocatalyst has shown a better catalytic activity than those presenting a C2 symmetry.

Abstract
(Thio)urea cocatalyst accelerates O-monoacyltartaric acid (MAT)-catalyzed enantioselective conjugate addition of boronic acid to unsaturated ketone. Kinetic studies of this reaction revealed first-order dependence of each substrate and catalyst and second-order dependence of (thio)urea, leading to reduction of the catalyst loading and development of more active and enantioselective MAT monoaryl ester catalyst.

Abstract
An efficient enantioselective construction of tetrahydronaphthalene-1,4-diones as well as dihydronaphthalene-1,4-diols by a chiral phosphoric acid catalyzed quinone Diels-Alder reaction with dienecarbamates is reported. The nature of the protecting group on the diene is key to the success of achieving high enantioselectivity. The divergent "redox" selectivity is controlled by using an adequate amount of quinones. Reversible redox switching without erosion of enantioselectivity was possible from individual redox isomers.

Abstract
The enantioselective construction of axially chiral compounds by electrophilic carbothiolation of alkynes is disclosed for the first time. This enantioselective transformation is enabled by the use of a Ts-protected bifunctional sulfide catalyst and Ms-protected ortho-alkynylaryl amines (Ts=tosyl; Ms=mesyl). Both electrophilic arylthiolating and electrophilic trifluoromethylthiolating reagents are suitable for this reaction. The obtained products of axially chiral vinyl-aryl amino sulfides can be easily converted into biaryl amino sulfides, biaryl amino sulfoxides, biaryl amines, vinyl-aryl amines, and other valuable difunctionalized compounds.

Abstract
2,2'-Diaryl-1,1'-biazulenes were synthesized and electronic communication between the azulene subunits was suggested based on redox measurements. The linkage of azulene at the 1-position also appeared to increase the HOMO levels. In addition, cyclic voltammetry measurements of 2-arylazulenes showed a return peak associated with the oxidation, which was not observed for azulene. The stabilization of the single-electron oxidant may be due to the SOMO-HOMO energy inversion phenomenon. X-ray crystallography of the azulene dimers revealed that this species possessed a syn-type structure in which both aryl groups in the 2-positions formed π-stacks. The twisted structure was indicated to be in the (R)- or (S)-configuration for all molecules in the unit cell. Spontaneous resolution was also shown. Furthermore, from the solid circular dichroism (CD) spectral measurements, the relationship between the absolute configuration of the molecules and the CD spectra was determined. A racemization rotational barrier of ca. 27 kcal mol-1 was calculated. Moreover, the pyridylazulene dimer cyclized upon reaction with PdCl2 to form a 3 : 3 complex, in which the biazulene units cyclized to give ratios between the (R)- and (S)-forms of either 2 : 1 or 1 : 2.

Abstract
Since the pioneering independent reports of Akiyama and Terada, the use of chiral phosphoric acids (CPAs) and derivatives as a versatile tool for asymmetric synthesis with good reactivity, regioselectivity, diastereoselectivity and enantioselectivity has emerged, forming an important part of the implementation of asymmetric counteranion-directed catalysis reported to date. In these achievements, the combination of metals with CPAs has enabled various catalytic modes beyond the scope of typical acid catalysis, such as relay catalysis, ion-pairing catalysis, and binary acid catalysis. The first-row transition metals (Sc-Zn) are considered to be sustainable transition metals and have received a great deal of attention. These naturally abundant metals display excellent Lewis acidity and function as powerful redox catalysts in synthesis involving both one and two-electron transfers. Hence, in this chapter, we summarize recent advances in the development of asymmetric reactions using a combination of first-row transition metals and CPAs. Furthermore, we provide a detailed discussion of the mechanisms involved in order to understand the interaction of the metal/phosphate and the origins of the asymmetric control of the transformations.

Abstract
A highly efficient catalytic enantioselective [4+2] cycloaddition was developed between 2-benzothiazolimines and enecarbamates. A wide range of benzothiazolopyrimidines bearing three contiguous stereogenic centers was obtained in high to excellent yields and with excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities (d.r. > 98 : 2 and up to >99% ee). Furthermore, this chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed strategy was scalable and enabled access to a new class of optically pure Lewis base isothiourea derivatives.
