Abstract
An environmentally friendly synthetic approach is described from 2-vinylbenzamide to 3-hydroxy-isoindolinones through visible light-promoted transformations via iron/disulfide catalysis and molecular oxygen oxidation.

Abstract
Kinetically controlled cyclocondensation of stereoisomeric and ring-chain tautomeric mixture of (±)-hydroxylactone 1 and 0.5 equiv of (R)-phenylglycinol provided tricyclic oxazoloisoindolone lactam (3R,5aS,9aR,9bS)-2a, a versatile intermediate for further stereocontrolled transformations to access enantiopure cis-fused octahydroisoindolones. An extension of this methodology was successfully applied to the synthesis of the 5,6-dihydroxy derivative (3aR,5R,6S,7aS)-17.

Abstract
The first general and efficient non-noble metal-catalysed reductive C2-alkoxylation of cyclic imides (phthalimides and succinimides) is presented. Crucial for the success is the use of [Co(BF4)2·6H2O/triphos (L1)] combination and no external additives are required.
The first general and efficient non-noble metal-catalysed reductive C2-alkoxylation of cyclic imides (phthalimides and succinimides) is presented. Crucial for the success is the use of [Co(BF4)2·6H2O/triphos (L1)] combination and no external additives are required. Using the optimal cobalt-system, the hydrogenation of the aromatic ring of the parent phthalimide is avoided and only one of the carbonyl groups is selectively functionalized. The resulting products, N- and aryl-ring substituted 3-alkoxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindolin-1-one and N-substituted 3-alkoxy-pyrrolidin-2-one derivatives, are prepared under mild conditions in good to excellent isolated yields. Intramolecular reductive couplings can also be performed affording tricyclic compounds in a one-step process. The present protocol opens the way to the development of new base-metal processes for the straightforward synthesis of functionalized N-heterocyclic compounds of pharmaceutical and biological interest.

Abstract
We report here a practical and efficient synthesis of α-aminophosphonic acid incorporated into 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinoline and 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline heterocycles, which could be considered to be conformationally constrained analogues of pipecolic acid. The principal contribution of this synthesis is the introduction of the phosphonate group in the N-acyliminium ion intermediates, obtained from activation of the quinoline and isoquinoline heterocycles or from the appropriate δ-lactam with benzyl chloroformate. Finally, the hydrolysis of phosphonate moiety with simultaneous cleavage of the carbamate afforded the target compounds.

Abstract
Surface-energy fine-tuned five-fold twinned nanostructures with a core-shell Pt3Ni@Rh structural motif, namely, a core-shell Pt3Ni@Rh pentagon, a core-shell Pt3Ni@Rh starfish, and a paddlewheel with a Pt3Ni crankshaft and two Rh five-fold starfish wheels, are prepared by rationally designed stepwise heteroepitaxial growth. Unusual selective hydrogenation of the phenyl ring in phthalimide is accomplished with moderately active core-shell Pt3Ni@Rh pentagons and starfish-like nanoparticles. The most active paddlewheel structure proceeds to further reduce one carbonyl group, indicating the sequential nature of phthalimide reduction by Rh nanoparticle catalysis.
