Abstract
Zerovalent scandium, zirconium, hafnium, and manganese nanoparticles are prepared by reduction of ScCl3, ZrCl4, HfCl4, and MnCl2 with lithium or sodium naphthalenide in a one-pot, liquid-phase synthesis. Small-sized monocrystalline nanoparticles are obtained with diameters of 2.4 ± 0.2 nm (Sc), 4.0 ± 0.9 nm (Zr), 8.0 ± 3.9 nm (Hf) and 2.4 ± 0.3 nm (Mn). Thereof, Zr(0) and Hf(0) nanoparticles with such size are shown for the first time. To probe the reactivity and reactions of the as-prepared Sc(0), Zr(0), Hf(0), and Mn(0) nanoparticles, they are exemplarily reacted in the liquid phase (e.g., THF, toluene, ionic liquids) with different sterically demanding, monodentate to multidentate ligands, mainly comprising O-H and N-H acidic alcohols and amines. These include isopropanol (HOiPr), 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol (H2binol), N,N'-bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine (H2salen), 2-mercaptopyridine (2-Hmpy), 2,6-diisopropylaniline (H2dipa), carbazole (Hcz), triphenylphosphane (PPh3), N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (tmeda), 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy), N,N'-diphenylformamidine (Hdpfa), N,N'-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-2,4-pentanediimine ((dipp)2nacnacH), 2,2'-dipydridylamine (Hdpa), and 2,6-bis(2-benzimidazolyl)pyridine (H2bbp). As a result, 22 new compounds are obtained, which frequently exhibit a metal center coordinated only by the sterically demanding ligand. Options and restrictions for the liquid-phase syntheses of novel coordination compounds using the oxidation of base-metal nanoparticles near room temperature are evaluated.

Abstract
Functionalized chiral indole derivatives are privileged and versatile organic frameworks encountered in numerous pharmaceutically active agents and biologically active natural products. The catalytic asymmetric Friedel-Crafts reaction of indoles, catalyzed by chiral metal complexes or chiral organocatalysts, is one of the most powerful and atom-economical approaches to access optically active indole derivatives. Consequently, a wide range of electrophilic partners including α,β-unsaturated ketones, esters, amides, imines, β,γ-unsaturated α-keto- and α-ketiminoesters, ketimines, nitroalkenes, and many others have been successfully employed to achieve a plethora of functionalized chiral indole moieties. In particular, strategies for C-H functionalization in the phenyl of indoles require incorporation of a directing or blocking group in the phenyl or azole ring of indole. The discovery of chiral catalysts which can control enantiodiscrimination has gained a great deal of attention in recent years. This review will provide an updated account on the application of the asymmetric Friedel-Crafts reaction of indoles in the synthesis of diverse chiral indole derivatives, covering the timeframe from 2011 to today.

Abstract
A visible-light photoredox functionalization of 3,4-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazin-2-ones through a Friedel-Crafts reaction with indoles using an inexpensive organophotoredox catalyst is described. The reaction uses a dual catalytic system that is formed by a photocatalyst simple and cheap, 9,10-phenanthrenedione, and a Lewis acid, Zn(OTf)2. 5W white LEDs are used as visible-light source and oxygen from air as a terminal oxidant, obtaining the corresponding products with good yields. The reaction can be extended to other electron-rich arenes. Our methodology represents one of the most valuable and sustainable approach for the functionalization of 3,4-dihydro-1,4-benzoxazin-2-ones, as compared to the reported procedures. Furthermore, several transformations were carried out, such as the synthesis of the natural product cephalandole A and a tryptophol derivative.

Abstract
The reactions of ketones and aldehydes in the presence of Li(+) and in the presence or absence of PTC mediated by water were performed to produce aldol products. Several advantages of the aqueous reactions over organic solvent-mediated ones have been demonstrated including higher yields, shorter reaction times, simpler purifications, and better functional group tolerance. Some reactions that do not take place in organic solvents have been realized in water. The successes are attributed to the neighboring heteroatom effect. In the aqueous aldol condensations, Li2CO3 was an efficient catalyst, and therefore base-liable groups such as epoxides, esters, and silyl groups could survive. For heteroaromatic ethanones, the aqueous aldol reactions were accomplished without PTC to give β-hydroxyketones in good yields. The water-mediated condensations of aldosyl hemiacetals with aromatic ketones led to a new carbohydrate-derived skeleton in quantitative yields. To some extent, this research has expanded the applicablities of aldol condensations and reactions.
