Abstract
Five new C2-symmetric chiral ligands of 2,5-bis(imidazolinyl)thiophene (L1–L3) and 2,5-bis(oxazolinyl)thiophene (L4 and L5) were synthesized from thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (1) with enantiopure amino alcohols (4a–c) in excellent optical purity and chemical yield. The utility of these new chiral ligands for Friedel–Crafts asymmetric alkylation was explored. Subsequently, the optimized tridentate ligand L5 and Cu(OTf)2 catalyst (15 mol%) in toluene for 48 h promoted Friedel–Crafts asymmetric alkylation in moderate to good yields (up to 76%) and with good enantioselectivity (up to 81% ee). The bis(oxazolinyl)thiophene ligands were more potent than bis(imidazolinyl)thiophene analogues for the asymmetric induction of the Friedel–Crafts asymmetric alkylation.

Abstract
An investigation of the properties and reactivity of fluoromethylsulfonium salts resulted in the redesign of the reagents for fluoromethylene transfer chemistry. The model reaction, fluorocyclopropanation of nitrostyrene, turned out to be a suitable platform for the discovery of more streamlined fluoromethylene transfer reagents. The incorporation of halides on one aryl ring increased the reactivity, and 2,4-dimethyl substitution on the other aryl ring provided a balance between the reactivity/crystallinity of the reagent as well as the atom economy. The utility of new reagents was demonstrated by the development of an efficient fluorocyclopropanation protocol to access a range of monofluorinated cyclopropane derivatives.

Abstract
A mild Rh-catalyzed method was developed for the synthesis of hydroxyimino functionalized indazolo[1,2-a]cinnolines and phthalazino[2,3-a]cinnolines by reductive [4 + 2] annulation between 1-arylindazolones and 2-aryl-2,3-dihydrophthalazine-1,4-diones with varied nitroolefins. The targeted oxime decorated tetracyclic fused cinnolines were synthesized via sequential C-H activation/olefin insertion/reduction under reducing-agent-free conditions.

Abstract
Ticlopidine (trade name Ticlid), an acidic thienopyridine derivative, is an effective, well-known and long-acting inhibitor of platelet aggregation. Because of its potent inhibitory activity for treating a variety of diseases, the development of efficient approaches for accessing ticlopidine represents an important endeavour. Therefore, in this research work, we developed a promising novel five-step synthetic approach for synthesizing ticlopidine. This method provides ticlopidine in 60% overall yield from readily available starting material viz. thiophene. In this methodology, all steps afforded excellent yields and are operationally simple and environmentally acceptable. This approach also offers various attractive advantages, for example, it's applicable for large-scale synthesis, has simple work-up procedures and short reaction times, and uses inexpensive and readily available reagents. Furthermore, 4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine is a key precursor for the synthesis of numerous bioactive compounds such as prasugrel and clopidogrel. This protocol provides 4,5,6,7-tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine in 62% overall yield via a 4-step synthetic approach.

Abstract
An asymmetric total synthesis of Merck's hNK1 antagonist and three of its stereoisomers was accomplished in 10 steps. The synthesis involves a stereoselective assembly of 1,2-oxazine N-oxide by the [4 + 2]-cycloaddition, site-selective C-H oxygenation using a novel tandem acylation/[3,3]-rearrangement process and the reductive 1,2-oxazine ring contraction into a pyrrolidine ring as key stages. Using this strategy, the fused pyrrolidine subunit was constructed with exceptionally high regio- and stereoselectivities. The approach described here can be used to access enantiopure 3,4-disubstituted prolinols, which are frequently found in pharmaceutically relevant molecules and organocatalysts.

Abstract
A conformationally rigid chiral bicyclic skeleton tethered bipyridine-Zn(OTf)2 complex facilitated the enantioselective Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indoles with trans-β-nitroarylalkenes in an enantioselective manner at elevated temperature. Indoles reacted smoothly with β-nitroarylalkenes to generate the corresponding 3-(2-nitroalkyl)indoles in good to excellent yields (up to 94%) with moderate to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 91%). The stereochemical outcome of the product from indole and trans-β-nitrostyrene in the presence of the CRCB tethered bipyridine-Zn(OTf)2 complex and the DFT calculation of the CRCB tethered bipyridine-Zn:trans-β-nitrostyrene complex support the si-face attack of indole on trans-β-nitrostyrene.

Abstract
Cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) have recently attracted much attention as catalysts in various reactions. Organocatalysts have emerged as sustainable alternatives to metal-based catalysts in green organic synthesis, with concerted systems containing CNFs that are expected to provide next-generation catalysis. Herein, for the first time, we report that a representative organocatalyst comprising an unexpected combination of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl (TEMPO)-oxidized CNFs and proline shows significantly enhanced catalytic activity in an asymmetric Michael addition.

Abstract
A simple and effective one-pot, two-step intramolecular aryl C-N and C-O bond forming process for the preparation of a wide range of benzo-fused heterocyclic scaffolds using iron and copper catalysis is described. Activated aryl rings were subjected to a highly regioselective, iron(III) triflimide-catalyzed iodination, followed by a copper(I)-catalyzed intramolecular N- or O-arylation step leading to indolines, dihydrobenzofurans, and six-membered analogues. The general applicability and functional group tolerance of this method were exemplified by the total synthesis of the neolignan natural product, (+)-obtusafuran. DFT calculations using Fukui functions were also performed, providing a molecular orbital rationale for the highly regioselective arene iodination process.

Abstract
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) and 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD) play an important function in various biochemical processes as they generate reducing power of the cell. Thus, metabolic reprogramming of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) homeostasis is reported to be a vital step in cancer progression as well as in combinational therapeutic approaches. In this study, N-benzoylindoles 9a--9d, which form the main framework of many natural indole derivatives such as indomethacin and N-benzoylindoylbarbituric acid, were synthesized through three easy and effective steps as an in vitro inhibitor effect of G6PD and 6PGD. The N-benzoylindoles inhibited the enzymatic activity with IC50 in the range of 3.391505 μM for G6PD and 2.19-990 μM for 6PGD.

Abstract
A straightforward synthetic route toward C5-alkylated indolines/indoles has been developed. The strategy is composed of Zn(OTf)2-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts alkylation of N-benzylindolines with nitroolefins, and a series of diverse indolines was first obtained in up to 99% yield. This reaction provides a direct and practical route to a variety of the C5-alkylated indolines which were also utilized for accessing corresponding indoles. Indoline derivatives with free NH groups could be obtained through an N-deprotection reaction. Moreover, the primary alkyl nitro groups in both indolines and indoles are amenable to further synthetic elaborations, thereby broadening the diversity of the products.

Abstract
A method is reported for the catalytic direct coupling of allylic alcohols and nitroalkanes. In the allylation process, the synergistic action of palladium complexes and titanium(IV) alkoxide facilitates the formation of nitronate and π-allylpalladium intermediate. In the cases of reluctant allylations, typically with sterically demanding nitroalkanes, we found the addition of substoichiometric amount of DBU greatly facilitates the desired transformation. We also accomplished a total synthesis of (±)-adalinine through a homoallyl nitroalkane derived from Seebach's reagent.

Abstract
A continuous-flow synthesis of β-nitroolefins by using heterogeneous base catalysts has been developed. Although the use of an excess amount of nitro-donor such as nitromethane is required in conventional methods, nearly equimolar amounts of nitro-donors and carbonyl compounds are sufficient for high-yielding production of nitroolefins. Catalysts for this flow protocol are inexpensive and abundant, and high durability and high productivity were also realized by using an appropriate second support.

Abstract
An operationally simple and mild one-pot protocol for the synthesis of a variety of 3,5-diarylpyridines from β-nitrostyrenes was achieved by using elemental iron. This reaction proceeds via reduction of the nitro group, resulting in in situ imine formation followed by trimolecular condensation with concomitant debenzylative aromatization. By employing this method, a series of symmetrical and unsymmetrical 3,5-diarylpyridines were synthesized with good to excellent yields. In addition, this method was also utilized for the synthesis of Sch-21418, an anti-inflammatory agent on gram scale.
