Abstract
Donor acceptor (D-π-A) fluorophores containing a donor unit and an acceptor moiety at each end connected by a conjugated linker gained attention in the last decade due to their conjugated system and ease of tunability. These features make them good candidates for various applications such as bioimaging, photovoltaic devices and nonlinear optical materials. Upon excitation of the D-π-A fluorophore, intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) occurs, and it polarizes the molecule resulting in the 'push-pull' system. The emission wavelengths of fluorophores can be altered from UV-vis to NIR region by modifying the donor unit, acceptor moiety and the π linker between them. The NIR emitting fluorophores with restricted molecular rotations are used in aggregation-induced emission (AIE). D-π-A fluorophores with carboxylic acid and cyano groups are preferred in photovoltaic applications, and fluorophores with large surface area are used for two photon absorbing applications. Herein, we report the synthesis, optical properties, and applications of various D-π-A fluorophores in UV-vis and NIR region.

Abstract
A 2,5-disubstituted tetrazole with p-nitrophenyl and 3-pyridyl units as acceptors (1a), and three push–pull tetrazoles with p-nitrophenyl as an acceptor and phenyl (1b), 2-(dibenzo[b,d]furan-4-yl) (1c), and 4-(N,N-diphenylamino)phenyl (1d) as donor groups, were synthesized by copper-catalyzed aerobic C–N coupling of p-nitrophenyl tetrazole with appropriately substituted aryl boronic acids. The absorption and emission spectra of 1a–c showed minimal dependence on the polarity of the solvent; however, in the case of 1d a blue shift was noted in the longest absorption band (λ1) as the polarity increased. The fluorescence intensity of the title compounds was found to be solvent-dependent; however, no apparent correlation to solvent polarity could be established. The absorption and emission characteristics of 1a–d were also influenced by the nature of the substituent as 1d, bearing a strong electron donating 4-(N,N-diphenylamino)phenyl group, displayed a significant red shifted absorption (λ1) as well as emission (λem) bands compared to other compounds. Time dependent density functional calculations (CAM-B3LYP/6-311++G**) revealed that the longest wavelength band (λ1) is associated with an intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) from HOMO/HOMO-1/HOMO-2 → LUMO/LUMO+1 in these molecules. The first hyperpolarizability values, βHRS, of 1a–d were measured using the solution-based hyper-Rayleigh scattering technique using a femtosecond Ti:Sapphire laser and the highest NLO activity was measured for 1d with the greatest push–pull characteristics. A strong correlation was observed between the calculated hyperpolarizability (βtot) and experimentally measured values (βHRS). A 2,5-disubstituted tetrazole with a p-nitrophenyl unit as an acceptor and a 4-(N,N-diphenylamino) phenyl group as a donor exhibits strong push–pull characteristics and displays high NLO activity.![]()

Abstract
Cu-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of ethyl 2-azidoacetate to iodobuta-1,3-diynes and subsequent Sonogashira cross-coupling were used to synthesize a large series of new triazole-based push–pull chromophores: 4,5-bis(arylethynyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazoles. The study of their optical properties revealed that all molecules have fluorescence properties, the Stokes shift values of which exceed 150 nm. The fluorescent properties of triazoles are easily adjustable depending on the nature of the substituents attached to aryl rings of the arylethynyl moieties at the C4 and C5 atoms of the triazole core. The possibility of 4,5-bis(arylethynyl)-1,2,3-triazoles’ application for labeling was demonstrated using proteins and the HEK293 cell line. The results of an MTT test on two distinct cell lines, HEK293 and HeLa, revealed the low cytotoxicity of 4,5-bis(arylethynyl)triazoles, which makes them promising fluorescent tags for labeling and tracking biomolecules.

Abstract
Intramolecular electrophilic cyclization of a bisanthranilate afforded an angular cis-quinacridone compound, which condensed with hydrazine to give a phthalazine derivative. A [2+2+2] cyclization reaction occurred at the C-N double bond position of phthalazine when reacted with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate. The structures of these novel compounds were confirmed by crystallographic analysis. The phthalazine derivative decomposes back to quinacridone at ambient condition in the dark and as a solid with a half lifetime of about 22 months.

Abstract
In this article, we describe the synthesis, redox characteristics, and linear and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of seven new unsymmetrical push-pull diacetylide platinum-based complexes. These D-π-Pt-π-A complexes incorporate pyranylidene ligands as pro-aromatic donor groups (D), diazine rings as electron-withdrawing groups (A), and various aromatic fragments (styryl or thienylvinyl) as π-linkers separating the platinum diacetylide unit from the donor and the acceptor groups. This is one of the first examples of push-pull chromophores incorporating a platinum center in the π-conjugated core. The NLO properties of these complexes were compared with those of their purely organic analogues. All compounds (organic and organometallic) exhibited positive μβ values, which dramatically increased upon methylation of the pyrimidine fragment. However, this increase was even more significant in the complexes due to the presence of platinum in the π-conjugated core. The effects of the linker on the redox and spectroscopic properties of the complexes are also discussed. In addition, DFT calculations were performed in order to gain further insight into the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) occurring through the platinum center.

Both isomers were separated by HPLC and fully characterized by (1)H and (13)C NMR. The X-ray diffraction crystal structures were solved for FT (Pna21 space group, a = 34.960(4), b = 5.9306(7), c = 9.5911(10) Å), and trans(Cl,Cl)-[Ru(II)(FT)Cl2(NO)](PF6)·MeOH (P1[combining macron] space group, a = 10.3340(5), b = 13.0961(6), c = 13.2279(6) Å, α = 72.680(2), β = 70.488(2), γ = 67.090(2)°). Photo-release of NO˙ radicals occurs under irradiation at 405 nm, with a quantum yield of 0.31 and 0.10 for cis(Cl,Cl)-[Ru(II)(FT)Cl2(NO)](PF6) and trans(Cl,Cl)-[Ru(II)(FT)Cl2(NO)](PF6), respectively. This significant difference is likely due to the trans effect of Cl(-), which favors the photo-release. UV-visible spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry indicate the formation of ruthenium(iii) species as photoproducts. A density functional theory (DFT) analysis provides a rationale for the understanding of the photo-physical properties, and allows relating the weakening of the Ru-NO bond, and finally the photo-dissociation, to HOMO → LUMO excitations.

Abstract
Novel D–π–A–π–D type chromophores – 2,4-bis(4-aryl-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidines were prepared and their photophysical, electrochemical properties in conjunction with quantum chemical calculations were investigated.
