Abstract
A new strategy for synthesizing chirally enriched pyrazolylpyrimidinone-based glycohybrids has been achieved, employing an annulation approach in ethanol without any additives or catalysts under microwave conditions. The designed compounds were obtained within a short reaction time (5 min). This method offers several advantages, including mild reaction conditions, a green solvent, and a metal-free approach. Furthermore, the protocol demonstrated a broad substrate scope, successfully incorporating various functional groups with stereochemical diversity and furnishing chirally enriched molecules.

Abstract
We have developed a synthesis of 1-3 and 1-1 disaccharides from 2-benzoyl glycal and anomeric thiol and/or hydroxy sugar acceptors under mild conditions at room temperature. The regio and stereo-selectivity of the newly formed inter-glycosidic linkages are dependent on the nature of the glycal donor (D or L) and anomeric acceptor.

Abstract
Glycals (carbohydrate enol-ethers) have enjoyed profound applications in organic synthesis for more than a century. They not only serve as versatile glycosyl donors or as substrates for Ferrier rearrangement, but also find extensive synthetic applications especially as a "chiral pool" for accomplishing the synthesis of a variety of natural and biologically important compounds. As cyclic enol ethers, they demonstrate high reactivity and are among the most and variously transformable monosaccharide derivatives. The uniqueness of the reactivity of glycals is that they can be synthetically tuned to get a library of derivatives through stereo- and regioselective introduction of a variety of functional groups at C1, C2, C3 as well as C4 carbons of the sugar. We have developed a practical approach for stereoselective mono- and diamination of glycals and over the years utilized these scaffolds for the synthesis of a variety of biologically important nitrogen heterocycles and carbocycles through a "Diversity Oriented Approach". Our synthetic strategy in this direction mainly relied on the cleavage of ring O-C bond of the sugar followed by an "intramolecular recombination" reaction. Utilizing this strategy, we have accomplished the synthesis of several biologically important natural products, their analogues and related unnatural derivatives. Examples of such compounds reported from our group include polyhydroxypyrrolidines, DMDP, anisomycin, steviamine, pochonicine, conduramines, bulgecinine, aminocyclitols, azepanes, 4-hydroxy-D-proline, azanucleosides and their analogues. A personal account highlighting these syntheses is presented here.

Abstract
A wide range of enones derived from d-glucal, d-galactal, l-rhamnal, d-rhamnal, and l-arabinal underwent Heck-coupling with various arylboronic acids bearing electron-donating and -withdrawing groups in the presence of palladium acetate and 1,10-phenanthroline. These reactions provided synthetically useful C-1 aryl enones in good yields. Many sensitive functional groups as well as protecting groups present in arylboronic acids and enones, respectively, remained intact under optimized conditions. The stereoselective hydrogenation of C-1 aryl enones with Pd-C/H2 provides the β-isomer of 2-deoxy-aryl-C-glycosides in excellent yield. The C-1 aryl enones were also used as precursors for the synthesis of 2-hydroxy-β-aryl-C-glycosides. Regioselective C-2 halogenations and vinylations of C-1 aryl enones were achieved in excellent yields.

Abstract
A simple, highly stereoselective one-pot methodology for the synthesis of novel 1,2-annulated sugars comprising of oxa-oxa and oxa-carbasugar fused skeletons from 2-nitrogalactal and a sugar-derived enone, obtained from 2-formylgalactal, promoted by KOtBu and CH3ONa respectively is described. Both processes rely on a domino double-Michael addition reaction resulting in the formation of three stereocenters in a single pot, including a quaternary center.

Abstract
Pd-catalyzed carbonylative cross-coupling reactions of 2-iodoglycals have been developed for the synthesis of sugar-based arylones and ynones using formic acid as the carbonyl source. Whereas acetyl-protected arylones lead to the formation of highly substituted furan derivatives in the presence of Lewis acid, benzyl-protected arylones furnished the 3-deoxy sugar derivative. In the presence of nucleophiles, an attack took place on the C-1 or C-3 carbon regio- and stereoselectively depending on the nature of the nucleophiles.

Abstract
Six different types of O-benzyl protected proline derivatives have been synthesized from D-glycals and 2C-formyl-glycals. One of the di-O-benzyl protected proline derivatives has been utilized for the synthesis of polysubstituted pyrrolizidines via [3 + 2] cycloaddition in a stereoselective manner. Further, we also report on the stereoselective synthesis of biologically active 1C-aryl/alkyl pyrrolidines i.e. 4-epi-radicamine B, 4-epi-radicamine A, 1C-butyl and 1C-methyl pyrrolidines through double reductive amination of a variety of D-glucal derived diketones with p-methoxybenzylamine.

Abstract
We report the use of XtalFluor-E ([Et2NSF2]BF4) as an alternative to POCl3 in the Vilsmeier-Haack formylation reaction of C-2-glycals. Employing a XtalFluor-E/DMF combination allowed the desired C-2-formyl glycals to be isolated in 11-90% yield. This method was extended to the synthesis of a C-2 -formylated disaccharide glycal.
