Abstract
Fluorocyclization of alkenes tethered with a pronucleophile is an efficient transformation that converts easily accessible starting materials to fluorinated heterocycles in a single step. We report herein an unprecedented Pd(II)-catalyzed oxidative domino process that transforms homoallylic amides to 5,6-dihydro-4H-1,3-oxazines through a domino oxypalladation/PdII-oxidation/dyotropic rearrangement/reductive elimination sequence. Three chemical bonds are created under these operationally simple conditions. Taking advantage of the facile hydrolysis of the α-fluoro tertiary alkyl ether under acidic conditions, a one-pot conversion of homoallylic amides to homologated ketones is subsequently developed, which represents a rare example of regioselective Wacker oxidation reaction of 1,1-disubstituted alkenes.

Abstract
Functionalization of Si-bound methyl group provides an efficient access to diverse organosilanes. However, the asymmetric construction of silicon-stereogenic architectures by functionalization of Si-bound methyl group has not yet been described despite recent significant progress in producing chiral silicon. Herein, we disclosed the enantioselective silylmethyl functionalization involving the aryl to alkyl 1,5-palladium migration to access diverse naphthalenes possessing an enantioenriched stereogenic silicon center, which are inaccessible before. It is worthy to note that the realization of asymmetric induction at the step of metal migration itself remains challenging. Our study constitutes the first enantioselective aryl to alkyl 1,5-palladium migration reaction. The key to the success is the discovery and fine-tuning of the different substituents of α,α,α,α-tetraaryl-1,3-dioxolane-4,5-dimethanol (TADDOL)-based phosphoramidites, which ensure the enantioselectivity and desired reactivity.

Abstract
Alkyllithium-activated organoboronic esters are found to undergo stereospecific phosphination with copper chloride and chlorophosphines. They also react with thiolsulfonate electrophiles under copper catalysis. These reactions enable stereospecific phosphination and thiolation of organoboronic esters, which are further applied in preparation of chiral ligands and biologically active molecules.

Abstract
A new reaction mechanism for the construction of dioxabicyclo[4.2.1]nonanone skeletons via a cation cascade has been proposed and examined by DFT and ab initio computations. This mechanism features the following steps: (1) intramolecular Friedel-Crafts-type cyclization with a methyl oxocarbenium cation formed by carboxylate disconnection, (2) electron-rich aromatic ring assisted methoxide loss followed by lactone formation, and (3) stepwise dyotropic rearrangement resulting in skeletal isomerization from a dioxabicyclo[3.2.2]nonanone to the dioxabicyclo[4.2.1]nonanone product observed experimentally. The high regioselectivity and driving force for the overall rearrangement were rationalized, and Lewis and Brønsted acid mediated reactivities were compared.

Abstract
Although Bu3Sn-mediated radical alkyne peri-annulations allow access to phenalenyl ring systems, the oxidative termination of these cascades provides only a limited selection of the possible isomeric phenalenone products with product selectivity controlled by the intrinsic properties of the new cyclic systems. In this work, we report an oxidant-free termination strategy that can overcome this limitation and enable selective access to the full set of isomerically functionalized phenalenones. The key to preferential termination is the preinstallation of a "weak link" that undergoes C-O fragmentation in the final cascade step. Breaking a C-O bond is assisted by entropy, gain of conjugation in the product, and release of stabilized radical fragments. This strategy is expanded to radical exo-dig cyclization cascades of oligoalkynes, which provide access to isomeric π-extended phenalenones. Conveniently, these cascades introduce functionalities (i.e., Bu3Sn and iodide moieties) amenable to further cross-coupling reactions. Consequently, a variety of polyaromatic diones, which could serve as phenalenyl-based open-shell precursors, can be synthesized.

Abstract
We report in this paper a Pd(II)-catalyzed migratory gem-fluorolactonization of ene-carboxylic acids. Reaction of 4-methylenealkanoic acid derivatives with Selectfluor in the presence of Pd(OAc)2 (1.0 mol %) at room temperature affords fluorolactones in good to excellent yields. 2-(2-Methylenecycloalkanyl)acetic acids are transformed to bridged fluorolactones under identical conditions. One C-C, one C-O and one tertiary C-F bond were generated along the gem-disubstituted carbon-carbon double bond in this operationally simple transformation. Trapping experiments indicates that the reaction is initiated by a 5-exo-trig oxypalladation followed by Pd oxidation, regioselective ring-enlarging 1,2-alkyl/Pd(IV) dyotropic rearrangement and C-F bond forming reductive elimination cascade. Post-transformations of these fluorolactones taking advantage of the electrophilicity of the 1-fluoroalkylcarboxylate function are also documented.

Abstract
A novel synthesis of aryl-substituted, enantioenriched fulvenes from an oxidative Heck cascade and rearrangement of a carboxy-substituted spiro[4.4]nonatriene is disclosed. Mechanistic investigations with density functional theory (DFT) calculations and empirical results support the net transformation occurring through a novel Pd(ii)-mediated 1,5-vinyl shift from a vinyl-palladium intermediate that terminates with protodepalladation. This spiro-to-fused bicycle conversion tolerates a range of electron-rich and deficient arylboronic acids to give a range of mono- and diaryl substituted annulated fulvenes in moderate to good yields and enantiomeric ratios. Overall, this work connects two classes of molecules with a rich history in physical organic chemistry.

Abstract
An unprecedented route for the preparation of fused tetracyclic N-heterocycles is presented through the palladium-catalyzed cyclization of isocyanides with alkyne-tethered aryl iodides. In this transformation, a novel amino-to-alkyl 1,5-palladium migration/intramolecular C(sp3)-C(sp2) coupling sequence was observed first. More importantly, isocyanide exhibited three roles, serving simultaneously as a C1 synthon, a C1N1 synthon, and the donor of C(sp3) for C(sp3)-C(sp2) coupling, and the reaction was the sole successful example that achieved C(sp3)-H activation of isocyanide.

Abstract
Pd-catalyzed cyclizative functionalization of γ-hydroxyalkenes affords tetrahydrofuran derivatives via a key 5-exo-trig oxypalladation step. Herein, we report a palladium(II)-catalyzed, Selectfluor-mediated formal 6-endo-trig fluorocycloetherification of γ-hydroxyalkenes for the synthesis of functionalized tetrahydropyrans. Mechanistically, an σ-alkyl-Pd(II) intermediate resulting from the 5-exo-trig oxypalladation process is isolated and characterized by X-ray crystallographic analysis. Its oxidation with Selectfluor to Pd(IV) triggers the chemoselective 1,2-O/Pd(IV) dyotropic rearrangement affording, after C-F bond-forming reductive elimination, the tetrahydropyrans with concurrent generation of a tertiary carbon-fluorine bond. The occurrence of this 1,2-positional interchange is further evidenced by trapping the rearranged quaternary C(sp3)-Pd bond by an internal nucleophile that is materialized by the development of a Pd(II)-catalyzed oxidative bis-heterocyclization of alkenes.

Abstract
ConspectusThe use of quaternary stereocenters during lead candidate optimization continues to grow because of improved physiochemical and pharmacokinetic profiles of compounds with higher sp3 fraction. Pd-catalyzed redox-neutral alkene difunctionalization involving carbopalladation of alkenes followed by nucleophilic-trapping σ-alkyl-palladium intermediates has been developed as an efficient method to construct quaternary stereocenters. However, the low chemoselectivity and air sensitivity of organometallic nucleophiles, as well as their low availability and accessibility, limit the scope of application of this elegant strategy. Recently, Ni-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling has evolved into a privileged strategy to easily construct valuable C(sp3)-C bonds. Despite great progress, the enantioselective coupling of C(sp3) electrophiles still relies on activated or functionalized alkyl precursors, which are often unstable and require multiple steps to prepare. Therefore, Ni-catalyzed reductive difunctionalization of alkenes via selective cyclization/cross-coupling was developed. This strategy not only offers a robust and practical alternative for traditional redox-neutral alkene difunctionalization but also provides strategic complementarity for reductive cross-coupling of activated alkyl electrophiles. In this Account, we summarize the latest results from our laboratory on this topic. These findings mainly include our explorations in modulating the enantioselectivity and cyclization mode of reductive cyclization/cross-couplings.We will first discuss Ni-catalyzed enantioselective reductive cyclization/cross-coupling to construct valuable chiral heterocycles with quaternary stereocenters and focus on the effects of ligands, reductants, and additives and their roles in reductive cross-coupling. A wide range of electrophiles have been explored, including aryl halides, vinyl halides, alkynyl halides, gem-difluoroalkenes, CO2, trifluoromethyl alkenes, and cyano electrophiles. The synthetic potential of this approach has also been demonstrated in the synthesis of biologically active natural products and drug molecules. Second, we will detail how to tune the steric effects of nickel catalysts by modifying bipyridine ligands for regiodivergent cyclization/cross-couplings. Specifically, the use of bidentate ligands favors exo-selective cyclization/cross-coupling, while the use of a carboxylic acid-modified bipyridine ligand permits endo-selective cyclization/cross-coupling. We will also show how to activate the amide substrate by altering the electronic and steric properties of substituents on the nitrogen, thereby enabling the nucleophilic addition of aryl halides to amide carbonyls. Further investigation of ligand properties has led to tunable cyclization/cross-couplings (addition to the amide carbonyl vs 7-endo-cyclization) for the divergent synthesis of pharmacologically important 2-benzazepine frameworks. Finally, we serendipitously discover that modifying the ligands of nickel catalysts and changing the oxidation state of nickel can control the migratory aptitude of different groups, thus providing a switchable skeletal rearrangement strategy. This transformation is of high synthetic value because it represents a conceptually unprecedented new approach to C-C bond activation. Thus, this Account not only summarizes synthetic methods that allow the formation of valuable chiral heterocycles with quaternary stereocenters using a wide variety of electrophiles but also provides insight into the relationship between ligand structure, substrate, and cyclization selectivity.

Abstract
Directly editing an all-carbon quaternary carbon itself of nonstrained acyclic molecules remains underexploited despite the recent advances in the fields of both C-H and C-C bond activation. Herein, we report a palladium-catalyzed migrative carbofluorination of saturated amides enabled by the activation of both the C(sp3)-H and the Cquaternary-Cσ bonds. In this transformation, the α-quaternary carbon of Weinreb amides is converted to α-tertiary fluoride with concurrent migration of an aryl or an amido group from the α- to β-carbon. DFT calculations indicate that the dyotropic rearrangement proceeds through an unusual anti-selective [2.1.0] bicyclic transition state. The reaction, compatible with a broad range of functional groups, is stereospecific and is applicable to the synthesis of enantioenriched products.

Abstract
The reaction of propargyl esters with alkynylsilanes under gold catalysis provides vinylallene derivatives through consecutive [1,2]‐acyloxy/[1,2]‐silyl rearrangements. Good yields, full atom‐economy, broad substrate scope, easy scale‐up and low catalyst loadings are salient features of this novel transformation. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations suggest a reaction mechanism involving initial [1,2]‐acyloxy rearrangement to generate a gold vinylcarbene intermediate which upon regioselective attack of the alkynylsilane affords a vinyl cation which undergoes a type II‐dyotropic rearrangement involving the silyl group and the metal fragment. Preliminary results on the enantioselective version of this transformation are also disclosed.

Abstract
The reaction of propargyl difluorides R1 CF2 C≡CR2 with alkylzincs R3 ZnCl giving axially chiral fluorinated allenes R1 FC=C=CR2 R3 with high enantioselectivity (up to 99 % ee) was found to be catalyzed by a chiral diene/rhodium complex. A key step in the catalytic cycle is selective elimination of one of the enantiotopic fluorides at the β-position of an alkenyl-Rh intermediate, which is generated by regioselective addition of R3 -Rh onto the triple bond of the starting difluorides.

Abstract
The weak carbon–metal bond combined with the kinetic inertness of carbon–carbon bond renders the metal catalyzed C–C bond activation to be highly challenging. Most of the reported C–C bond activation methodologies involve the strain-releasing cleavage of small rings to compensate the unfavorable kinetic and thermodynamic penalties associated with the C–C bond cleavage. Here we report that the 1,2-positional interchange of vicinal C–C and C–Pd(IV) bonds (dyotropic rearrangement) can be realized in a stereospecific manner under mild conditions, giving access to quaternary carbon-palladium bonds. An enantioselective synthesis of medicinally relevant fluorinated cyclopentanes, featuring this rearrangement as a key step, has been developed. We anticipate that implementing a Pd-based dyotropic rearrangement in reaction design could provide a new dimension in the development of Pd-catalyzed transformations.

Abstract
Rhodium-catalyzed asymmetric addition of arylboron reagents to indene derivatives proceeded to give 2-arylindanes in good yields with high enantioselectivity. Deuterium-labeling experiments indicated that the present reaction involved a 1,4-Rh shift from an initially formed benzylrhodium to an arylrhodium intermediate before protonation leading to the corresponding addition product. The asymmetric addition was also successful for acenaphthylene, which has a similar skeleton to indene, where it was found that the benzylrhodium intermediate underwent direct protonation without the 1,4-Rh shift.

Abstract
Organosilicon compounds have been extensively utilized both in industry and academia. Studies on the syntheses of diverse organosilanes is highly appealing. Through-space metal/hydrogen shifts allow functionalization of C-H bonds at a remote site, which are otherwise difficult to achieve. However, until now, an aryl to alkyl 1,5-palladium migration process seems to have not been presented. Reported herein is the remote olefination, arylation, and borylation of a methyl group on silicon to access diverse vinyl-, benzyl-, and borylsilanes, constituting a unique C(sp3 )-H transformation based on a 1,5-palladium migration process.

Abstract
The reaction of arylstannanes ArSnR3 with unfunctionalised alkynes was found to proceed in the presence of a rhodium catalyst and a catalytic amount of zinc chloride to give ortho-alkenylarylstannanes with high selectivity in high yields. The catalytic cycle is very unique, consisting of three transmetalation steps, from Sn to Rh, Rh to Zn, and Zn to Sn, in addition to arylrhodation of alkyne followed by 1,4-migration of Rh from 2-arylalkenyl carbon to ortho-alkenylaryl carbon.

Abstract
An unusual pericyclic process that involves the intermolecular transfer of thiozone (S3 ) is computationally described. The process can be considered as a special case of double group transfer reaction whereby the two migrating groups are connected to the same substituent, taking place in a concerted manner via transition states featuring two five-membered C2 S3 rings fused together. Analysis of the aromaticity at the TS geometries by computing NICS values at the (3,+1) RCPS as well as ACID calculations confirms the aromatic character of each C2 S3 ring, thus resulting in bicyclically delocalized aromatic structures. The free energy barriers for the transfer of S3 are relatively similar (40-50 kcal mol-1 ) to those computed for typical double H group transfer reactions. The similarities and differences between these processes have been further analysed by applying ASM-EDA and NBO approaches to the model reactions between ethene and ethane, and ethene and 1,2,3-trithiolane. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Functionalized alkynyl-chlorogermanes: hydrometallation, Ge-Cl bond activation, Ge-H bond formation and chlorine-tert-butyl exchange via a transient germyl cation. Dalton Trans 2016; 45:6159-74. Abstract
Treatment of alkynyl-arylchlorogermanes ArylnGe(Cl)(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-(t)Bu)3-n (n = 1, 2) with HM(t)Bu2 (M = Al, Ga) yielded mixed Al or Ga alkenyl-alkynylchlorogermanes via hydrometallation reactions. Intramolecular interactions between the Lewis-basic Cl atoms and the Lewis-acidic Al or Ga atoms afforded MCGeCl heterocycles. The endocyclic M-Cl distances were significantly lengthened compared to the starting compounds and indicated Ge-Cl bond activation. Dual hydrometallation succeeded only with HGa(t)Bu2. One Ga atom of the product was involved in a Ga-Cl bond, while the second one had an interaction to a C-H bond of a phenyl group. In two cases treatment of chlorogermanes with two equivalents of HAl(t)Bu2 resulted in hydroalumination of one alkynyl group and formation of unprecedented Ge-H functionalized germanes, Aryl-Ge(H)(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-(t)Bu)[C(Al(t)Bu2)[double bond, length as m-dash]C(H)-(t)Bu] (Aryl = mesityl, triisopropylphenyl). The Al atoms of these compounds interacted with the α-C atoms of the alkynyl groups. Ph(Cl)Ge(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-(t)Bu)[C(Al(t)Bu2}[double bond, length as m-dash]C(H)-(t)Bu] reacted in an unusual Cl/(t)Bu exchange to yield the tert-butylgermane Ph((t)Bu)Ge(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]C-(t)Bu)[C{Al((t)Bu)(Cl)}[double bond, length as m-dash]C(H)-(t)Bu]. Quantum chemical calculations suggested the formation of a germyl cation as a transient intermediate.
