Abstract
The aryl O-carbamate (ArOAm) group is among the strongest of the directed metalation groups (DMGs) in directed ortho metalation (DoM) chemistry, especially in the form Ar-OCONEt2. Since the last comprehensive review of metalation chemistry involving ArOAms (published more than 30 years ago), the field has expanded significantly. For example, it now encompasses new substrates, solvent systems, and metalating agents, while conditions have been developed enabling metalation of ArOAm to be conducted in a green and sustainable manner. The ArOAm group has also proven to be effective in the anionic ortho-Fries (AoF) rearrangement, Directed remote metalation (DreM), iterative DoM sequences, and DoM-halogen dance (HalD) synthetic strategies and has been transformed into a diverse range of functionalities and coupled with various groups through a range of cross-coupling (CC) strategies. Of ultimate value, the ArOAm group has demonstrated utility in the synthesis of a diverse range of bioactive and polycyclic aromatic compounds for various applications.

Abstract
Arylamines represent a class of compounds widely found in natural products and pharmaceuticals. Among methodologies devoted to their synthesis, nickel-catalyzed amination of aryl halides constitutes one of the most employed conventional strategies. However, C-N cross-couplings often involve elaborated nickel complexes, which are expensive and/or air and moisture sensitive. To circumvent this issue, we herein report an electrochemical method based on a sacrificial anode process to in situ generate a catalytic amount of nickel salts allowing amination of aryl halides. The approach, simple to set up, proceeds under mild reaction conditions and enables access to a large panel of arylamines.

Abstract
The C-N cross-coupling of (hetero)aryl (pseudo)halides with NH substrates employing nickel catalysts and organic amine bases represents an emergent strategy for the sustainable synthesis of (hetero)anilines. However, unlike protocols that rely on photoredox/electrochemical/reductant methods within NiI/III cycles, the reaction steps that comprise a putative Ni0/II C-N cross-coupling cycle for a thermally promoted catalyst system using organic amine base have not been elucidated. Here we disclose an efficient new nickel-catalyzed protocol for the C-N cross-coupling of amides and 2'-(pseudo)halide-substituted acetophenones, for the first time where the (pseudo)halide is chloride or sulfonate, which makes use of the commercial bisphosphine ligand PAd2-DalPhos (L4) in combination with an organic amine base/halide scavenger, leading to 4-quinolones. Room-temperature stoichiometric experiments involving isolated Ni0, I, and II species support a Ni0/II pathway, where the combined action of DBU/NaTFA allows for room-temperature amide cross-couplings.

Abstract
The challenging nickel-catalyzed mono-α-arylation of acetone with aryl chlorides, pivalates, and carbamates has been achieved for the first time. A nickel/Josiphos-based catalytic system is shown to feature unique catalytic behavior, allowing the highly selective formation of the desired mono-α-arylated acetone. The developed methodology was applied to a variety of (hetero)aryl chlorides including biologically relevant derivatives. The methodology has been extended to the unprecedented coupling of acetone with phenol derivatives. Mechanistic studies allowed the isolation and characterization of key Ni0 and NiII catalytic intermediates. The Josiphos ligand is shown to play a key role in the stabilization of NiII intermediates to allow a Ni0 /NiII catalytic pathway. Mechanistic understanding was then leveraged to improve the protocol using an air-stable NiII pre-catalyst.

Abstract
The selective synthesis of mono-N-methyl aromatic amines was achieved by the reaction of aromatic nitroso compounds with methylboronic acid promoted by triethylphosphite under transition metal-free conditions. The target compounds are constructed efficiently without overmethylation, under environmentally benign reaction conditions that do not require bases or reductants and therefore are of interest in pharmaceutical, agricultural, and chemical industries.
