Copper-Catalyzed C-C Bond Cleavage/Double Cyclization of α-Ketoamides with o-Phenylene Diamines: Synthesis of Benzimidazo[1,2-c ]quinazolin-6-ones

Visible-Light-Triggered Synthesis of N-α-Ketoacylated Sulfoximines by Denitrogenative and Oxidative Functionalization of Vinyl Azides

We have introduced a sulfoximidation reaction initiated by visible light between α-phenyl vinyl azides and NH-sulfoximines. The cost-effective and readily accessible hypervalent iodine reagent (PIDA) easily promoted the oxidative sulfoximidation process to afford N-α-ketoacylated sulfoximines in good to high yields, involving the formation of two new C-O bonds and one C-N bond. Additionally, the protocol offers noteworthy advantages, including its metal-free and photocatalyst-free reaction and its broad substrate compatibility.

Divergent Approach for Regioselective Synthesis of Linearly and Angularly Fused Benzoimidazoquinazolinones from Isatoic Anhydrides

Ph₃P-I₂-mediated condensation reactions of isatoic anhydrides and o-phenylenediamines have been developed for the regioselective syntheses of a wide range of linearly and angularly fused benzoimidazoquinazolinones. The selectivity of the products relies on the generation of either highly electrophilic oxyphosphonium or less reactive imidate intermediates. A direct amine attack at the C-2 position of the oxyphosphonium intermediate presumably drives the reaction toward the linearly fused products, whereas an attack of the diamine at the C-4 position of the in situ generated cyclic imidate leads to the angularly fused derivatives. This strategy serves as a practical handle for the efficient synthesis of other related heterocycles.

Copper-Catalyzed Annulation or Homocoupling of Sulfoxonium Ylides: Synthesis of 2,3-Diaroylquinolines or α,α,β-Tricarbonyl Sulfoxonium Ylides

An unprecedented copper-catalyzed reaction of sulfoxonium ylides and anthranils is reported that enables an easy access to 2,3-diaroylquinolines through a [4+1+1] annulation. Copper-catalyzed homocoupling of sulfoxonium ylides provided α,α,β-tricarbonyl sulfoxonium ylides, which provides a strategy to extend the carbon chain through C-C bond formation. The utility of the products as well as the mechanistic details of the process are presented.
