Abstract
Solid-contact ion-selective electrodes (SC-ISEs) are advanced potentiometric sensors with great capability to detect a wide range of ions for the monitoring of industrial processes and environmental pollutants, as well as the determination of electrolytes for clinical analysis. Over the past decades, the innovative design of ion-selective electrodes (ISEs), specifically SC-ISEs, to improve potential stability and miniaturization for in situ/real-time analysis, has attracted considerable interest. Recently, the utilisation of nanomaterials was particularly prominent in SC-ISEs due to their excellent physical and chemical properties. In this article, we review the recent applications of various types of nanostructured materials that are composed of carbon, metals and polymers for the development of SC-ISEs. The challenges and opportunities in this field, along with the prospects for future applications of nanomaterials in SC-ISEs are also discussed.

Abstract
We synthesized a new pH-dependent meso-captor/sensor for the visual monitoring and selective sequestering of Ag(I) ions from wastewater. The SBA-16 microspheres were successfully synthesized via a direct hydrothermal treatment through surfactant-assisted cooperative self-assembly. The meso-captor/sensor was designed via the direct immobilization of the chromogenic Acid Blue 90 (AB90) chelate into cubical large, open mesoporous SBA-16 carriers and investigate of its ability to detect and retain silver ions from aqueous solutions. Results show that the synthesized SBA-16 microspheres were retained after modification and the AB90 functional groups were immobilized hierarchically inside the mesopore channels. This was evidenced by the N2 adsorption, X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HR-TEM), and elemental analyses. Batch adsorption experiments were carried out and the effects of various parameters on Ag(I) ions removal and detection were determined. The optimum adsorption/detection of Ag(I) ions were recorded at a pH of 6.2 within 30 min with color change from a brilliant blue to a pale blue-gray. The spectral response for [SBA-16@AB90 → Ag(I)] complex showed a maximum reflectance at λmax = 385 nm within 2.5 min response time (tR); the LOD was close to 3.87 µg/L while the LOQ approached 12.83 µg/L, this was attributed to the concentration range at which a linear signal has been observed against Ag(I) analyte concentration (i.e., 5 to 1000 µg/L) at pH 6.2 with standard deviation (SD) of 0.077 (RSD% = 9.5 at n = 8).

Abstract
Silver ion pollution is a great threat to global environment and public healthcare today. Thus, quick, portable and sensitive assays for Ag+ tracing are highly needed. Herein, a reliable fluorescent and colorimetric dual-channel assay has been constructed for Ag+ detection by utilizing a terbium-based fluorescent nanomaterial (named as Tb-DPA) and a Pt/Pd nanoflower (Pt/Pd NF)-triggered reaction between N-ethyl-N-(3-sulfopropyl)-3-methylaniline sodium salt (TOPS) and 4-amino-antipyrine (4-AAP). Initially, in the sensing system containing 4-AAP, TOPS, Tb-DPA and Pt/Pd NF, TOPS and 4-AAP is catalyzed by Pt/Pd NF to produce a purple compound (called as PC1), which endows a broad UV absorption that can fully cover the emission band of Tb-DPA. Thus, the system exhibits a high UV absorption (originating from PC1) and a low fluorescence intensity (originating from Tb-DPA) which has been quenched by PC1 through a filtering effect. However, when the system meets Ag+, the oxidase-like activity of Pt/Pd NF will be inhibited, leading less amount of PC1. As a result, the system exhibits a decreased UV absorption and a recovered fluorescence intensity, both of which can be used for Ag+ detection, reporting low detection limits of 3.63 nM and 1.63 nM, respectively. Specially, results from the dual-channel assay can mutually validate each other, improving the detection reliability. Moreover, this dual-mode assay shows good capability toward Ag+ detection in real samples, illustrating the potential for practical applications.

Abstract
Background:
Application of electrochemical sensors for analysis of food, biological and
water polluting compounds helps to speed up their analysis in the real samples. Electrochemical sensors
with low cost, fast response and portable ability are a better choice compared to traditional
methods for analysis of electro-active compounds such as HPLC. Therefore, in recent years, many
analytical scientists have suggested this type of analytical method for analysis of food, biological
compounds and water pollutants.
Objective:
Due to low cost, easy modification and low non-faradic current, the carbon paste electrode
is a suitable choice as a working electrode in the electrochemical and especially voltammetric analysis.
On the other hand, modification of carbon paste electrode can improve the quality of the sensor
for the analysis of electroactive compounds at nanomolar level.

Abstract
In this study, the preparation and electrochemical application of a chromium(III) oxide modified carbon paste electrode (Cr-CPE) and a screen printed electrode (SPE), made from the same material and optimized for the simple, cheap and sensitive simultaneous determination of zinc, cadmium, lead, copper and the detection of silver ions, is described. The limits of detection and quantification were 25 and 80 µg·L-1 for Zn(II), 3 and 10 µg·L-1 for Cd(II), 3 and 10 µg·L-1 for Pb(II), 3 and 10 µg·L-1 for Cu(II), and 3 and 10 µg·L-1 for Ag(I), respectively. Furthermore, this promising modification was transferred to the screen-printed electrode. The limits of detection for the simultaneous determination of zinc, cadmium, copper and lead on the screen printed electrodes were found to be 350 µg·L-1 for Zn(II), 25 µg·L-1 for Cd(II), 3 µg·L-1 for Pb(II) and 3 µg·L-1 for Cu(II). Practical usability for the simultaneous detection of these heavy metal ions by the Cr-CPE was also demonstrated in the analyses of wastewaters.

Abstract
Silver ions have been used to sterilize many products, however, it has recently been demonstrated that silver ions can be toxic. This toxicity has been studied over many years with the lethal concentration at 10 μM. Silver ions can accumulate through the food chain, causing serious health problems in many species. Hence, there is a need for a commercially available silver ion sensor, with high detection sensitivity. In this work, we develop an ultra-sensitive silver ion sensor platform, using cytosine based DNA and gold nanoparticles as the mass amplifier. We achieve a lower detection limit for silver ions of 10 pM; this detection limit is one million times lower than the toxic concentration. Using our sensor platform we examine highly selective characteristics of other typical ions in water from natural sources. Furthermore, our sensor platform is able to detect silver ions in a real practical sample of commercially available drinking water. Our sensor platform, which we have termed a 'MAIS' (mass amplifier ion sensor), with a simple detection procedure, high sensitivity, selectivity and real practical applicability has shown potential as an early toxicity assessment of silver ions in the environment.

Abstract
In this study, 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide-conjugated polyamidoamine dendrimer was synthesized and characterized and its potentiality as a cation sensor was investigated. 4-Amino-1,8-naphthalic anhydride reacted with polyamidoamine dendrimer and the product was characterized using FTIR, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR and melting point analysis method. The synthesized compound was applied to detect various cations in water media and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) via monitoring the quenching of the fluorescence intensity. Furthermore, various metal cations including Cu(2+), Ni(2+), Zn(2+), Pb(2+),Ca(2+), Ba(2+), Cd(2+), Hg(2+), Fe(2+), Fe(3+) and Ag(+) were tested. The complexes formed between the synthesized compound and metal cations in solution and their effects on Photoinduced Electron Transfer (PET) process were investigated regarding the potential application of the newly-synthesized dendrimer as a colorimetric and fluorescent sensor for such cations. The results clearly confirmed that the 1,8-naphthalimide groups surrounding the central dendrimer core showed strong green fluorescence emission at 553 nm. This effect considerably decreased with the introduction of all cations, except Ag(+) where the fluorescence quenching effect was remarkable and more dominant. Therefore, it can be concluded that the synthesized dye has the potentiality of being a highly sensitive and selective fluorescence sensor for Ag(+) cation.

Abstract
A new nano-sized silver(I) ion-imprinted polymer (IIP) was prepared via precipitation copolymerization using ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate, as a cross-linking agent in the presence of Ag(+) and an aza-thioether crown containing a 1,10-phenanthroline subunit as a highly selective complexing agent. The imprint silver(I) ion was removed from the polymeric matrix using a 1.0M HNO3 solution. The resulting powder material was characterized using IR spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The SEM micrographs showed colloidal nanoparticles of about 52 nm and 75 nm in diameter and slightly irregular in shape for leached and unleached IIPs, respectively. The optimal pH for quantitative enrichment was 6.0 and maximum sorbent capacity of the prepared IIP for Ag(+) was 18.08 μmol g(-1). The relative standard deviation and limit of detection (LOD=3Sb/m) for flame atomic absorption spectrometric determination of silver(I) ion, after its selective extraction by the prepared IIP nanobeads, were evaluated as 2.42% and 2.2×10(-8) M, respectively. The new Ag(+)-IIP was also applied as a suitable sensing element to the preparation of highly selective and sensitive voltammetric and potentiometric sensors for ultra trace detection of silver(I) ion in water samples, with limits of detection of 9.0×10(-10) and 1.2×10(-9) M, respectively.

Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) are salt that exist in the liquid phase at and around 298 K and are comprised of a bulky, asymmetric organic cation and the anion usually inorganic ion but some ILs also with organic anion. ILs have attracted much attention as a replacement for traditional organic solvents as they possess many attractive properties. Among these properties, intrinsic ion conductivity, low volatility, high chemical and thermal stability, low combustibility, and wide electrochemical windows are few. Due to negligible or nonzero volatility of these solvents, they are considered “greener” for the environment as they do not evaporate like volatile organic compounds (VOCs). ILs have been widely used in electrodeposition, electrosynthesis, electrocatalysis, electrochemical capacitor, lubricants, plasticizers, solvent, lithium batteries, solvents to manufacture nanomaterials, extraction, gas absorption agents, and so forth. Besides a brief discussion of the introduction, history, and properties of ILs the major purpose of this review paper is to provide an overview on the advantages of ILs for the synthesis of conducting polymer and nanoparticle when compared to conventional media and also to focus on the electrochemical sensors and biosensors based on IL/composite modified macrodisk electrodes. Subsequently, recent developments and major strategies for enhancing sensing performance are discussed.

Abstract
A highly sensitive and selective fluorescent chemosensor SC1 for Ag(+) based on a coumarin-Se(2)N chelating conjugate has been synthesized and characterized. Due to inhibiting a photoinduced electron transfer (PET) quenching pathway, a fluorescent enhancement factor of 4-fold is observed under the binding of the Ag(+) cation to the chemosensor SC1 with a detection limit down to the 10(-8) M range.
