Abstract
Furosemide (4-chloro-2-(furan-2-ylmethylamino)-5-sulfamoyl benzoic acid) is a widely used, FDA-approved drug prescribed for several symptoms associated with heart, kidney, liver failure, or chronic high blood pressure. In this work, a glassy carbon working electrode modified with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate is developed to detect furosemide (FURO) with high sensitivity and precise selectivity. The modified electrode was also characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared, and cyclic voltammetry. Here, an efficient and cost- and time-efficient technique to study the furosemide mechanism of reaction in an acidic liquid medium is presented. An electrochemical oxidation of loop diuretic furosemide was investigated in a supporting electrolyte, 0.01 M of phosphate buffer (at a pH level of 4.0) at 25 ± 0.1 °C using a differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) technique. Under optimized parameters, the developed sensor displays a wide detection range of furosemide concentrations of 6.0 × 10-6 to 1.0 × 10-4 M with a detection limit of 2.0 × 10-6 M using DPV. The presented sensor offers a robust and high-precision technique with an excellent reproducibility to detect furosemide in as a real sample such as urine and pharmaceutical products.

Abstract
An ultrasensitive electrochemical microelectrode set (μ-ES), where all three electrodes are made of highly densified carbon nanotube fiber (HD-CNTf) cross sections (length ∼40 μm), embedded in an inert polymer matrix, and exposed open-ended CNTs at the interface, is presented here. Bare open ends of HD-CNTf rods were used as the working (∼40 μm diameter) and counter (∼94 μm diameter) electrodes, while the cross section of a ∼94 μm diameter was electroplated with Ag/AgCl and coated with Nafion to employ as a quasi-reference electrode. The Ag/AgCl/Nafion-coated HD-CNTf rod quasi-reference electrode provided a very stable potential comparable to the commercial porous-junction Ag/AgCl reference electrode. The HD-CNTf rod μ-ES has been evaluated by electrochemical determination of biologically important analytes, i.e., dopamine (DA), β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH), a diuretic drug, i.e., furosemide, and a heavy metal, i.e., lead ions (Pb2+). Different voltammetric techniques were employed during the study, i.e., cyclic voltammetry (CV), square wave voltammetry (SWV), amperometry, and square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV). The direct metallic connection to CNTs gives access to the exceptional properties of highly ordered open-ended CNTs as electrochemical sensors. The distinct structural and electronic properties of aligned HD-CNTf rods in the μ-ES demonstrate fast electron transfer kinetics and offer excellent detection performance during testing for different analytes with wide linear ranges, excellent sensitivity, and very low limits of detection.

Abstract
This work exploits the applicability of a chemically reduced graphene oxide (CRGO) modification on the electrochemical response of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the first-time sensitive determination of furosemide in natural waters. The batch injection analysis (BIA) is proposed as an analytical method, where CRGO-GCE is coupled to a BIA cell for amperometric measurements. Acetate buffer (0.1 μmol L-1, pH 5.2) was used as the background electrolyte. The modification provided an increase in sensitivity (0.024 μA/μmol L-1), low limit of detection (0.7 μmol L-1), RSD (< 4%), and broad linear range (1-600 μmol L-1). Recovery tests performed in two different concentration ranges resulted in values between 89 and 99%. Recovery tests were performed and compared with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV-Vis detection using Student's t test at a 95% significance level, and no significant differences were found, confirming the accuracy of the method. The developed method is proven faster (169 h-1) compared with the HPLC analysis (5 h-1), also comparable with other flow procedures hereby described, offering a low-cost strategy suitable to quantify an emerging pharmaceutical pollutant. Abstract
Caffeine is widely present in food and drinks, such as teas and coffees, being also part of some currently commercialized medicines, but despite its enhancement on several functions of human body, its exceeding use can promote many health problems. In order to develop new fast approaches for the caffeine sensing, graphite-epoxy composite electrodes (GECE) were used as substrate, being modified by different diazonium salts, synthetized as their tetraflouroborate salts. An analytical method for caffeine quantification was developed, using sware wave voltammetry (SWV) in Britton-Robinson buffer pH 2.0. Detection limits for bare electrode and 4-benzenesulfonic modified electrode were observed circa 145 µmol·L-1 and 1.3 µmol·L-1, respectively. The results have shown that the modification shifts the oxidation peaks to lower potential. Kinetics of the reaction limited by diffusion was more expressive when caffeine was added to the solution, resulting in decreases of impedance, characterized by lower R ct. All results for caffeine determination were compared to a reference chromatographic procedure (HPLC), showing no statistical difference. Analytical parameters for validation were suitably determined according to local legislation, leading to a linear behaviour from 5 to 150 µmol·L-1; precision of 4.09% was evaluated based on the RDC 166/17, and accuracy was evaluated in comparison with the reference method, with recovery of 98.37 ± 2.58%.

Abstract
A novel MnO2 nanoparticles/chitosan-modified pencil graphite electrode (MnO2 NPs/CS/PGE) was constructed using two different MnO2 polymorphs (γ-MnO2 and ε-MnO2 nanoparticles). X-ray single phases of these two polymorphs were obtained by the comproportionation reaction between MnCl2 and KMnO4 (molar ratio of 5 : 1). The temperature of this reaction is the key factor governing the formation of the two polymorphs. Their structures were confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was employed to investigate the morphological shape of MnO2 NPs and the surface of the bare and modified electrodes. Moreover, cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used for surface analysis of the modified electrodes. Compared to bare PGE, MnO2 NPs/CS/PGE shows higher effective surface area and excellent electrocatalytic activity towards the oxidation of the standard K3[Fe(CN)6]. The influence of different suspending solvents on the electrocatalytic activity of MnO2 was studied in detail. It was found that tetrahydrofuran (THF) is the optimum suspending solvent regarding the peak current signal and electrode kinetics. The results reveal that the modified γ-MnO2/CS/PGE is the most sensitive one compared to the other modified electrodes under investigation. The modified γ-MnO2/CS/PGE was applied for selective and sensitive determination of FUR. Under the optimized experimental conditions, γ-MnO2/CS/PGE provides a linear response over the concentration range of 0.05 to 4.20 μmol L-1 FUR with a low limit of detection, which was found to be 4.44 nmol L-1 (1.47 ng mL-1) for the 1st peak and 3.88 nmol L-1 (1.28 ng mL-1) for the 2nd one. The fabricated sensor exhibits a good reproducibility and selectivity and was applied successfully for the determination of FUR in its dosage forms and in spiked urine samples with good accuracy and precision.

Abstract
A novel method is developed for the quantification of furosemide in biological fluids. The method is based on the electro-reduction of Zn(II)-furosemide complex at carboxyl-MWCNT modified glassy carbon electrode. It is shown that, in Britton-Robinson buffer (pH5.7) the reduction peak of Zn(II)-furosemide complex formed at -1.0 V (versus, Ag/AgCl). The increment of current signal obtained from the reduction peak current of the Zn(II)-furosemide complex was rectilinear with furosemide concentration in the range of 0.03 to 140.0 μg ml(-1), with a detection limit of 0.007 μg ml(-1). The drug recovery ranged between 97.8% and 100.8% and the mean drug recovery was 98.89%. The accuracies (relative error% and RSD%) were less than 15% and are acceptable according to the US FDA guideline for bioanalytical method validation. The sensor was used for quantification of furosemide in drug and biological fluid samples. The data of drug analysis were compared with the standard method.

Abstract
A novel electrochemical sensor based on a molecularly imprinted polymer, poly(o-phenylenediamine) (PoPD), has been developed for selective and sensitive detection of furosemide. The sensor was prepared by incorporating of furosemide as template molecules during the electropolymerization of o-phenylenediamine on a gold electrode. To develop the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP), the template molecules were removed from the modified electrode's surface by washing it with 0.25 mol L(-1) NaOH solution. The imprinted layer was characterized by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The sensor's preparation conditions including furosemide concentration, the number of CV cycles in the electropolymerization process, extraction solution of the template from the imprinted film, the incubation time and the pH level were optimized. The incubation of the MIP-modified electrode, with respect to furosemide concentration, resulted in a suppression of the K4[Fe(CN)6] oxidation process. Under the optimal experimental conditions, the response of the imprinted sensor was linear in the range of 1.0×10(-7)-7.0×10(-6) mol L(-1) of furosemide. The detection limit was obtained as 7.0×10(-8) mol L(-1) for furosemide by using this sensor. The sensor was successfully used to determine the furosemide amount in the tablet and in human urine samples with satisfactory results.
