Determination of Cu2+in Drinking Water Based on Electrochemiluminescence of Ru(phen)32+and Cyclam

Fabrication of surface ion imprinting rice husk-based polymer for selective detection and efficient adsorption of Cu2+ in lake water

With the deepening of the concept of recycling economy and green chemistry, selective detection and capture of Cu²⁺ from lake water by biosorbent are of great significance. Herein, the Cu²⁺ ion-imprinted polymers (RH-CIIP) with organosilane containing hydroxyl and Schiff base groups (OHSBG) as ion-receptor, fluorescent chromophores and cross-linking agent, and Cu²⁺ as template ion, were fabricated via surface ion imprinting technology by employing mesoporous silica MCM-41 (RH@MCM-41) as supporter. The RH-CIIP could be exploited as a fluorescent sensor for Cu²⁺ with high selective compared with Cu²⁺ non-imprinted polymers (RH-CNIP). Additionally, the LOD was calculated to be 5.62 μg/L, which is far below WHO standard for Cu²⁺ in drinking water of 2 mg/L, and more lower than the reported methods. Moreover, the RH-CIIP can also be utilized as an adsorbent for the effective elimination of Cu²⁺ from lake water with the adsorption capacity of 87.8 mg/g. Besides, the kinetic features of adsorption were well defined by the pseudo-second-order model and the sorption isotherm was in agreement with the Langmuir model. Meanwhile, the interaction of RH-CIIP and Cu²⁺ was investigated using theoretical calculations and XPS. Finally, RH-CIIP was able to remove almost 99 % Cu²⁺ in lake water samples that satisfied the drink water standard.

A double-potential ratiometric electrochemiluminescence platform based on g-C3N4 nanosheets (g-C3N4 NSs) and graphene quantum dots for Cu2+ detection

A new kind of convenient, low-cost double-potential ratiometric ECL sensing platform for the quantification of Cu²⁺ was developed with carbon nitride nanosheets (g-C₃N₄ NSs) and graphene quantum dots (GQDs) as ECL luminophores. g-C₃N₄ NSs mixed with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was immobilized on a glass carbon electrode (GCE) and produced strong cathodic ECL at a potential of -1.2 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), while GQDs in the solution gave anodic ECL at +2.5 V. MWCNTs were used here to amplify the ECL signal of g-C₃N₄ NSs. The addition of Cu²⁺ causes the cathodic ECL signal from g-C₃N₄ to decline, while the anodic ECL signal from GQDs remains unchanged. With the anodic ECL signal as an internal reference, a double-potential ratiometric ECL sensing platform for Cu²⁺ was established. The ratio of the cathodic signal intensity to anodic signal intensity showed a linear response to the Cu²⁺ concentration over a range from 5.0 × 10^-10 to 1.0 × 10^-6 mol L^-1 and the detection limit was 0.37 nmol L^-1 (3σ/S). Such a construction strategy alleviates the interference from the environment and therefore improves the detection accuracy of Cu²⁺. Compared with other methods for Cu²⁺ detection, this method is simpler and more sensitive.

Recent progresses in luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs) as sensors for the detection of anions and cations in aqueous solution

The discharge of excessive metal ions and anions into water bodies leads to the serious pollution of water and environment, which in turn has a certain impact on industry, agriculture, and human life. Because of the unique advantages of luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs), they have been successfully explored as various fluorescent probes to quickly and effectively detect these pollutants. This perspective not only introduces the design strategy and classification of LMOFs, especially the construction methods of water-stable LMOFs, but also reports the latest progresses in some LMOFs between 2016 and 2020 as well as expounds the mechanisms of LMOFs for detecting anions and cations. Moreover, the luminescence properties of LMOFs are related to the selection of metal ions, the structure of organic ligands, the pore size, and the interaction of guest molecules. Finally, the further development of LMOFs is summarized and prospected in this field.
