Selective Electrochemical Determination of Dopamine with Molecularly Imprinted Poly(Carbazole‐ co ‐Aniline) Electrode Decorated with Gold Nanoparticles

A novel electrochemical sensor based on phosphate-stabilized poly-caffeic acid film in combination with graphene nanosheets for sensitive determination of nitro-aromatic energetic materials

This work offers a novel approach and sensor electrode for electrocatalytic reduction of nitro-aromatic explosives (NAEs). This sensor was created by combining electrochemically reduced graphene nanosheets (GNSs) -through cyclic voltammetric reduction of a graphene oxide colloidal solution- with phosphate-stabilized poly-caffeic acid (pCAF) film-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The poly-caffeic acid-modified nonconductive electrode was stabilized with a H2PO4-/HPO42- phosphate buffer at pH 7 and made conductive. The novel electrode, called phosphate stabilized-GC/GNSs/pCAF, was characterized by electrochemical methods and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The sensor exhibited high performance for trinitrotoluene (TNT) detection with a linear response between 50 and 500 μg L- 1 and a detection limit of 6 μg L-1. In addition to TNT, precise determinations of NAEs such as 2,4-dinitrotoluene (2,4-DNT), tetryl (2,4,6-trinitrophenyl methyl nitramine), trinitro phenol (TNP or picric acid; PA), 2,4-dinitrophenol (2,4-DNP), and 4-amino dinitrotoluene (4A-DNT, an aerobic bacterial degradation product of TNT) were made using the developed sensor electrode and DPV technique. Simultaneous quantification of TNT and DNT was performed with the aid of a computational technique known as multiple linear regression (MLR). The optimized electrode was resistant to interference effects. Satisfactory results on real samples were obtained by applying the modified electrode to the determination of TNT, tetryl, and TNP in contaminated soil. The validation of the proposed method was made against a literature LC-MS/MS method. A statistical comparison of the obtained results was provided using F- and Student's t-tests.

Ti3C2Tx (MXene)/Pt nanoparticle electrode for the accurate detection of DA coexisting with AA and UA

Dopamine (DA), uric acid (UA) and ascorbic acid (AA) are biomolecules widely distributed in the human body and play an important role in many physiological processes. An abnormal concentration of them is associated with various diseases. Thus, the accurate and fast detection of them has been one of the major demands in the healthcare industry. In this study, we demonstrate that Ti₃C₂T_x/PtNP modified glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) show a good electrochemical performance in the detection of DA and UA. However, there is no response signal to AA for either the CV or DPV curve due to the electrostatic repulsion between the negatively charged electrode surface and the negatively charged AA. Ti₃C₂T_x(MXene)/Pt nanoparticles (PtNPs) are prepared by etching Ti₃AlC₂(MAX) with HF and reducing H₂PtCl₆ with a NaBH₄ aqueous solution. The morphology of Ti₃C₂T_x/PtNPs is multilayered accordion-like Ti₃C₂T_x decorated with PtNPs with a diameter of 10-20 nm. Furthermore, it is found that the electrochemical detection of DA will be enhanced by AA. The electrochemical detection rule of AA enhanced DA can be expressed as follows: I_(DA+AA) = 0.011216C_AA + 0.039950C_DA + 1.1175(I_(DA+AA) is the peak current of DA coexisting with AA. C_AA is the concentration of AA. C_DA is the concentration of DA). This can be used as a calibration to correct the concentration of DA when AA and DA coexist. Notably, AA promotes the stability of the electrode because it cleans the oxidation products from the electrode surface in time. In addition, the sensor exhibits good reproducibility and satisfactory recovery results in a real sample.

Recent developments in conducting polymers: applications for electrochemistry

Scientists have categorized conductive polymers as materials having strongly reversible redox behavior and uncommon combined features of plastics and metal. Because of their multifunctional characteristics, e.g., simplistic synthesis, acceptable environmental stability, beneficial optical, electronic, and mechanical features, researchers have largely considered them for diverse applications. Therefore, their capability of catalyzing several electrode reactions has been introduced as one of their significant features. A thin layer of the conducting polymer deposited on the substrate electrode surface can augment the electrode process kinetics of several solution species. Such electrocatalytic procedures with modified conducting polymer electrodes can create beneficial utilization in diverse fields of applied electrochemistry. This review article explores typical recent applications of conductive polymers (2016–2020) as active electrode materials for energy storage applications, electrochemical sensing, and conversion fields such as electrochemical supercapacitors, lithium-ion batteries, fuel cells, and solar cells.
