Abstract
Chiral recognition is a crucial issue in the biomedical and pharmaceutical research communities. Due to the need for expensive equipment, reagents, and external energy, enantiomer identification is difficult to perform outside of a laboratory. Based on water evaporation-induced hydrovoltaic effect, a power-free sensing platform with sensitive chiral recognition capability is proposed for the discrimination of enantiomers. The chiral recognizer was bovine serum albumin (BSA), a naturally occurring protein. Using arginine (Arg) enantiomers as the sensing targets, the difference in enantioselectivity between l-Arg and d-Arg on a BSA-modified porous carbon substrate can be measured directly from the output voltage. By combining the cyclization reaction between NO and O-phenylenediamine (OPD), it has been discovered that the sensitivity and specificity of enantioselective identification can be significantly enhanced based on the surface charges. The limit of detection (LOD) could be as low as 76.0 nM. In addition, the proposed chips are extremely flexible and can function under deformation without sacrificing output performance. This self-powered chiral recognition chip paves a new path for the detection of chiral molecules at any time, any place, and it also has excellent potential for use in flexible wearable technology.

Abstract
Molecularly imprinted polymers coated magnetic particles (Fe3O4@MIPs) were prepared and used as adsorbents in solid phase extraction for efficient enantioseparation of racemic tryptophan (Trp) in aqueous medium. The amino-modified magnetic particles (Fe3O4-NH2) were first synthesized by one-pot hydrothermal method. Then the template molecules (L-Trp) were assembled on the surface of Fe3O4-NH2. Finally, Fe3O4@MIPs were prepared via a sol-gel method using L-Trp@Fe3O4-NH2 complex as matrix, 3-aminopropyltriethoxylsilane and n-octyltriethoxysilane as functional monomers. The as-prepared Fe3O4@MIPs were spherical with an average diameter about 149 ± 6.0 nm. The thickness of MIPs layer was approximately 3.5 ± 2.3 nm. The adsorption isotherms data of Fe3O4@MIPs toward L-Trp and D-Trp were well described by the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacities of Fe3O4@MIPs for L-Trp and D-Trp were calculated to be 17.2 ± 0.34 mg/g and 7.2 ± 0.19 mg/g, respectively. The material exhibited good selectivity toward L-Trp with imprinting factor of 5.6. Excitingly, the enantiomeric excess (ee) of Trp in supernatant after adsorption of racemic Trp by Fe3O4@MIPs was as high as 100%. The result suggests that the imprinted caves in Fe3O4@MIPs are highly matched with L-Trp molecule in space structure and spatial arrangement of active functional groups. The work also demonstrates that sol-gel technology has great potential in preparation of MIPs for chiral separation.

Penetrable silica microspheres for immobilization of bovine serum albumin and their application to the study of the interaction between imatinib mesylate and protein by frontal affinity chromatography. Abstract
In the current study, novel featured silica, named penetrable silica, simultaneously containing macropores and mesopores, was immobilized with bovine serum albumin (BSA) via Schiff base method. The obtained BSA-SiO2 was employed as the high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) stationary phase. Firstly, D- and L-tryptophan were used as probes to investigate the chiral separation ability of the BSA-SiO2 stationary phase. An excellent enantioseparation factor was obtained up to 4.3 with acceptable stability within at least 1 month. Next, the BSA-SiO2 stationary phase was applied to study the interaction between imatinib mesylate (IM) and BSA by frontal affinity chromatography. A single type of binding site was found for IM with the immobilized BSA, and the hydrogen-bonding and van der Waals interactions were expected to be contributing interactions based on the thermodynamic studies, and this was a spontaneous process. Compared to the traditional silica for HPLC stationary phase, the proposed penetrable silica microsphere possessed a larger capacity to bond more BSA, minimizing column overloading effects and enhancing enantioseparation ability. In addition, the lower running column back pressure and fast mass transfer were meaningful for the column stability and lifetime. It was a good substrate to immobilize biomolecules for fast chiral resolution and screening drug-protein interactions.

Abstract
A label-free nanochannel for enantioselective recognition of d-, l-Arg by adding BSA as chiral selector has been fabricated. Before adding BSA, the nanochannel cannot discriminate d- and l-Arg while with addition of BSA, this nanochannel displayed good enantioselectivity.

Abstract
An analysis of recent trends indicates that CE can show real advantages over chromatographic methods in ultratrace enantioselective determination of biologically active compounds in complex biological matrices. It is due to high separation efficiency and many applicable in-capillary electromigration effects in CE (countercurrent migration, stacking effects) enhancing significantly (enantio)separability and enabling effective sample preparation (preconcentration, purification, analyte derivatization). Other possible on-line combinations of CE, such as column coupled CE-CE techniques and implementation of nonelectrophoretic techniques (extraction, membrane filtration, flow injection) into CE, offer additional approaches for highly effective sample preparation and separation. CE matured to a highly flexible and compatible technique enabling its hyphenation with powerful detection systems allowing extremely sensitive detection (e.g. LIF) and/or structural characterization of analytes (e.g. MS). Within the last decade, more as well as less conventional analytical on-line approaches have been effectively utilized in this field and their practical potentialities are demonstrated on many new application examples in this article. Here, three basic areas of (enantioselective) drug bioanalysis are highlighted and supported by a brief theoretical description of each individual approach in a compact review structure (to create integrated view on the topic), including (i) progressive enantioseparation approaches and new enantioselective agents, (ii) in-capillary sample preparation (preconcentration, purification, derivatization), and (iii) detection possibilities related to enhanced sensitivity and structural characterization.
