A novel electrochemiluminescence sensor based on Ru(bpy)₃²⁺/N-doped carbon nanodots system for the detection of bisphenol A

A novel Ru(bpy)3(2+)-based electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensing platform, using N-doped carbon nanodots (N-C dots) as co-reactant, was established for the sensitive and selective detection of bisphenol A (BPA). N-C dots not only could enhance the ECL signal, but also significantly improved the reproducibility and stability of Ru(bpy)3(2+) ECL system. The developed ECL sensing system was sensitive to detect BPA based on its efficient quenching effect on Ru(bpy)3(2+)/N-C dots. The N-C dots-enhanced ECL mechanism and BPA-quenched ECL mechanism were investigated. Under the optimum conditions, the inhibited ECL intensity was in good linear relationship versus the concentration of BPA in the range of 0.03-1.0 μM with the detection limit of 10 nM. The relative standard deviation (RSD) for 25 successive measurements with one sensor was 1.1% and for eight different sensors was 2.5%, respectively. The fabricated sensing platform was successfully applied for the detection of BPA in baby bottle and nipple, and relatively satisfactory recoveries were obtained.

Electrochemical sensor based on magnetic molecularly imprinted nanoparticles at surfactant modified magnetic electrode for determination of bisphenol A

A selective electrochemical sensor based on magnetic molecularly imprinted nanoparticles was developed for determination of bisphenol A (BPA). The particles with regular morphology, high saturation magnetization and good monodispersion were prepared. The hydrophilicity, sensitivity and anti-fouling of the sensor were enhanced by modifying carbon paste electrode with surfactant CTAB in advanced. The results demonstrated that the response of BPA on imprinted electrode was 2.6 times as much as that on non-imprinted sensor. Moreover, the separation factors of BPA to β-estradiol, estriol and diethylstilbestrol were 16.5, 17.3 and 6.6, respectively. Under optimized conditions, the currents were found to be proportional to the BPA concentrations in the range of 6.0×10(-7)-1.0×10(-4) mol/L with a detection limit of 1.0×10(-7) mol/L (S/N=3). A rapid response of the imprinted sensor was obtained within 3 min. The developed sensor was successfully used for determination of BPA in actual samples such as drink bottles and lake water.

Duo-molecularly imprinted polymer-coated magnetic particles for class-selective removal of endocrine-disrupting compounds from aqueous environment

The removal of steroid and phenolic endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) from an aqueous environment was investigated using magnetic particles encapsulated by a duo-molecularly imprinted polymer (duo-MIP). The effect of environmental variables on the binding efficiency was studied. Experimental results showed that the amount of EDCs adsorbed was neither affected by up to 10.0 mM NaCl nor significantly interfered by up to 10.0 mg/L humic acid. Negligible influence was observed from pH 3.3 to pH 6.8, but a decrease started at pH 9. Freundlich isotherm parameters indicated binding capacities in the order of DES > E2 ∼ E1 > BPA. The applicability of class-selective removal was verified using river water samples spiked with these EDCs at 10 μg/L; the binding efficiencies were 90, 90, 88, and 98 % for estrone (E1), 17β-estradiol (E2), bisphenol A (BPA), and diethylstilbestrol (DES), respectively. A reuse investigation verified constant binding capacities exhibiting <2 % reduction after seven cycles of regeneration.
