Abstract
Melia dubia is an important tree species grown worldwide for its medicinal and timber values. It is widely used in timber and pulp industry and also as an organic pesticide, fertilisers, agro-forestry and herbal formulations. During 2019-2022, a dieback disease in plantations of M. dubia was recorded in Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan and Tumkur districts of Karnataka state (India) with disease incidence of 26.25%. The associated pathogen was isolated on PDA medium and its morpho-cultural characteristics were studied. The genomic DNA of the pathogen was isolated, and rDNA was amplified and sequenced using universal primers. Based on the microscopic, morpho-cultural, sequence data and phylogenetic analysis, the pathogen was identified as Diaporthe phaseolorum (Cooke & Ellis) Sacc. Koch's postulates were performed both in vitro and in vivo and the typical symptoms of dieback disease were recorded on post-inoculated saplings. The dieback disease is responsible for the poor growth of Melia species in the region, and hence, there is an urgent need to manage the disease in plantations using integrated management practices. This is the first report of the occurrence of D. phaseolorum on M. dubia plantations in India.

Abstract
Two new rearranged 2,3-seco-tirucallane triterpenoids, meliadubins A (1) and B (2), along with four known compounds, 3-6, were isolated from the barks of Melia dubia Cav. Compound 2 exhibited a significant inflammatory inhibition effect toward superoxide anion generation in human neutrophils (EC50 at 5.54 ± 0.36 μM). It bound to active sites of a human inducible nitric oxide synthase (3E7G) through interactions with the residues of GLU377 and PRO350, which may benefit in reducing the neutrophilic inflammation effect. The ChemGPS-NP interpretation combined with bioactivity assay and in silico prediction results suggested 2 to be an agent for targeting iNOS with different mechanisms as compared to a selected set of current approved drugs. Moreover, compounds 1 and 2 showed remarkable inhibition against the rice pathogenic fungus Magnaporthe oryzae in a dose-dependent manner with IC50 values of 137.20 ± 9.55 and 182.50 ± 18.27 μM, respectively. Both 1 and 2 displayed interactions with the residue of TYR223, a key active site of trihydroxynaphthalene reductase (1YBV). The interpretation of 1 and 2 in the ChemGPS-NP physical-chemical property space indicated that both compounds are quite different compared to all members of a selected set of reference compounds. In light of demonstrated biological activity and in silico prediction experiments, both compounds possibly exhibited activity against phytopathogenic fungi via a novel mode of action.

Abstract
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the leading causes of infection worldwide. Clove oil's ability to inhibit the growth of MRSA was studied through in vitro and in vivo studies. The phytochemical components of clove oil were determined through gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The antibacterial effects of clove oil and its interaction with imipenem were determined by studying MIC, MBC, and FIC indices in vitro. The in vivo wound-healing effect of the clove oil and infection control were determined using excision wound model rats. The GC-MS analysis of clove oil revealed the presence of 16 volatile compounds. Clove oil showed a good antibacterial effect in vitro but no interaction was observed with imipenem. Clove bud oil alone or in combination with imipenem healed wounds faster and reduced the microbial load in wounds. The findings of this study confirmed the antibacterial activity of clove oil in vitro and in vivo and demonstrated its interaction with imipenem.

Abstract
The chemical composition of the essential oils extracted from the leaves of Melia azedarach L. collected monthly from July 2019 to June 2020 was examined via gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) techniques. Analysis of the essential oils identified about 17 compounds representing more than 85% of the oil. Oil yields were higher in the months of June and August, and the primary compounds identified were β-caryophyllene (3.50-63.41%), benzaldehyde (3.50-55.98%), and azulene (1.27-19.05%). A correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationship between yields and climatic conditions, and between constituent concentration and temperature and precipitation values during the study period. As per our findings, although not significant, a positive correlation was determined between yield and climatic parameters. However, the oil components were categorized into four groups based on their correlation with temperature and precipitation indices. Among the major components of the essential oils, only azulene and β-caryophyllene exhibited a negative correlation with both precipitation and temperature. The results show substantial differences in the chemical composition of M. azedarach essential oils and provide further insight into the phytochemical constituents that are sensitive to climate fluctuations. Furthermore, it provides an indication of the optimal time that the plant produces the important mono- and sesquiterpene components and the biological significance of their regulation.

Abstract
Plant-based aroma chemicals, constituting the essential oils play a great role as the natural flavours and preservatives in the food industries. Many of these metabolites are susceptible to degradation under heat (i.e. thermolabile aroma chemicals) which may influence the organoleptic properties of the end-products e.g. essential oil, oleoresin, dry herb, tea and packaged juice. The current review identified in total 42 thermolabile aroma and/or flavour molecules belonging to monoterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids and phenolics. The probable pathway of their degradation and its promoting conditions were also described. Degradation pathways were categorized into five major classes including oxidation, C-C bond cleavage, elimination, hydrolysis and rearrangement. Numerous evidences were cited in support of the thermosensitivity of these phytochemicals under pyrolytic, thermal heating or gas chromatographic conditions. Various post-harvest processes involved in the manufacturing such as drying and distillation of the crops or thermal treatment of the food-products for storage were highlighted as the root cause of degradation. The influence of thermolabile aroma chemicals to maintain the sensory quality of the end-products such as citrus juices, floral oils and thermally cooked foods was discussed in detail. In the present article, detailed insight into the chemical and sensory aspects of thermosensitive aromas and flavours was provided, covering the period from 1990 up to 2020.

Abstract
Five batches of Bolivian Schinus molle essential oils were obtained from pilot and industrial-scale hydrodiffusions. They were analyzed by gas chromatography to find 80 known compounds and two unknown molecules. In particular, preisocalamendiol (5.6–11.0 %) was found to be an important constituent of these oils, along with shyobunol (0.6–3.2 %) and several other related oxygenated sesquiterpenes. These compounds, usually found in Acorus calamus, had not been reported altogether in S. molle essential oils previously. These findings, in light of the GABAA positive modulating effect of shyobunone and preisocalamendiol, along with some traditional uses of S. molle, suggest that further investigation of the tranquilizing properties of these Bolivian oils would be of interest.

Abstract
The energetics of the Cope rearrangement of 17 germacrane sesquiterpenoids to their respective elemane forms have been calculated using both density functional theory (B3LYP/6-31G*) and post Hartee-Fock (MP2/6-31G**) ab initio methods. The calculations are in qualitative agreement with experimentally observed Cope rearrangements, but the two methods give slightly different results. MP2 calculations generally show more favorable elemene energies compared to the respective germacrenes (by around 3-4 kcal mol(-1)) and smaller activation energies (by 2-3 kcal mol(-1)). Additionally, neither method is accurate enough to consistently reproduce the germacrene/elemene equilibrium. Apparently, the generally small energy differences between the two forms in these sesquiterpenoids cannot be adequately reproduced at these levels of calculation.
