Abstract
PURPOSE Although lower body strength and size are often regarded as symbols of masculinity, their relationship to testosterone is unclear. This study aimed to determine the correlation between lower body strength, size, and testosterone levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS Serum testosterone levels, waist circumference, and body mass index (BMI) were measured in 69 men with erectile dysfunction (age >40 years). The circumferences of the thigh and calf were measured, and the muscle strength of the knee joints was evaluated using an isokinetic dynamometer. Patients were classified into three groups according to testosterone levels (group 1, <230 ng/dL; group 2, 230 to 350 ng/dL; group 3, >350 ng/dL). Differences in calf and thigh circumference, bilateral knee extension, and flexion strength between the three groups were investigated using a one-way analysis of variance. Pearson's chi-square test was used to assess differences in lifestyle habits and underlying diseases. A partial correlation analysis was conducted to determine the association between testosterone levels and lower body size and strength. RESULTS There was no difference in BMI among the three groups, but waist circumference was significantly larger in group 1 than in groups 2 and 3. When comparing weight-adjusted values, bilateral thigh circumference showed a significant difference among the three groups. There was also a significant difference between the three groups in the weight-adjusted left calf circumference and in the weight-adjusted right knee extension strength. The partial correlation test showed a significant positive correlation between thigh and calf circumference values adjusted for weight and serum testosterone levels. Weight-adjusted knee extension strength demonstrated a significant positive correlation with serum testosterone levels. CONCLUSIONS Weight-adjusted thigh and calf circumferences, along with the thigh-to-waist ratio, showed a positive correlation with testosterone levels. Weight-adjusted knee extension strength was positively correlated with testosterone levels. Therefore, a robust thigh and strong lower body are related to testosterone.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the regional and age variation in growth status and age-by-site interaction effect on the growth status among Chinese Tibetan adolescents at different altitudes in Tibet, China. METHODS The research was conducted in three regions of Tibet, China: Nyingchi (average altitude 3100 m), Lhasa (average altitude 3650 m), and Nagqu (average altitude 4500 m). A total of 3817 Chinese Tibetan adolescents aged 12-18 years were tested for height, weight, chest circumference, and waist circumference. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the growth status of Chinese Tibetan adolescents. Two-way ANOVA was used to explore the age-by-site interaction effect on the growth status of Chinese Tibetan adolescents. RESULTS The height, weight, and chest circumference of Chinese Tibetan adolescents in Nagqu are the lowest among the three cities. Age and site have an interaction effect influence on the growth status of Chinese Tibetan adolescents (p < .01). CONCLUSIONS The growth indicators (height, weight, chest circumference, WC) of Chinese Tibetan adolescents differed with altitudes. Policies to improve the growth status of Chinese Tibetan adolescents in Nagqu are urgently needed.

Abstract
Individuals with metabolic risks are at high risk of cognitive impairment. We aimed to investigate whether the Thai Cardiovascular Risk (TCVR) score can be used to predict mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in Thai adults with metabolic risks. The study was conducted using secondary data of patients with metabolic risks from Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. MCI was indicated by an MoCA score of less than 25. Six different TCVR models were used with various combinations of ten different variables for predicting the risk of MCI. The area under the receiver operator characteristic curve (AuROC) and Hosmer–Lemeshow goodness of fit tests were used for determining discriminative performance and model calibration. The sensitivity of the discriminative performance was further evaluated by stratifying by age and gender. From a total of 421 participants, 348 participants had MCI. All six TCVR models showed a similar AuROC, varying between 0.58 and 0.61. The anthropometric-based model showed the best risk prediction performance in the older age group (AuROC 0.69). The laboratory-based model provided the highest discriminative performance for the younger age group (AuROC 0.60). There is potential for the development of an MCI risk model based on values from routine cardiovascular risk assessments among patients with metabolic risks.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Providing real-time haptic feedback is an important, but still not sufficiently explored aspect of use of supernumerary robotic limbs (SRLs). We present a multi-pad electrode for conveying multi-modal proprioceptive and sensory information from SRL to the user's thigh and propose a method for stimuli calibration. METHODS Within two pilot tests we investigated return electrode configuration and active electrode discrimination in three healthy subjects to select the appropriate electrode pad topology. Based on the obtained results and anthropometric data from literature, the electrode was designed to have three branches of 10 pads and two additional pads that can be displaced over/under the electrode branches. The electrode was designed to be connected to the stimulator that allows full multiplexing so that specific branches can serve as common return electrode. To define the procedure for application of this system, the sensation, localization and discomfort thresholds applicable for the novel electrode were determined and analysed in ten subjects. RESULTS The results showed no overlaps between the three thresholds for individual pads, with significantly different average values, suggesting that the selected electrode positioning and design provide good active range of useful current amplitude. The results of the subsequent analysis suggested that the stimuli intensity level of 200% of sensation threshold is the most probable value of the localization threshold. Furthermore, this level ensures low chance (i.e. 0.7%) of reaching the discomfort. CONCLUSIONS We believe that envisioned electrotactile system could serve as a high bandwidth feedback channel that can be easily setup to provide proprioceptive and sensory feedback from supernumerary limbs.

Abstract
Central obesity, measured by the waist circumference (WC) or waist-to-hip ratio, has been linked with metabolic dysfunction and structural abnormalities in the brain, two risk factors for cognitive impairment and dementia. The current analysis was performed to understand the influence of central obesity on the incidence of cognitive impairment and dementia. It included 21 studies involving 5,060,687 participants and showed that a high WC was associated with a greater risk of cognitive impairment and dementia (HR = 1.10, 95 % CI: 1.05-1.15), compared with a low WC. Sub-group analysis showed that a high WC increased the likelihood of developing cognitive impairment and dementia in individuals older than 65 years of age (HR = 1.13, 95 % CI: 1.08-1.19), whereas no association was observed in individuals younger than 65 years of age (HR = 1.04, 95 % CI: 0.93-1.16). Furthermore, dose-response meta-analysis confirmed that a high WC was a risk factor for cognitive impairment and dementia. In conclusion, central obesity, as measured by WC, was associated with a risk of cognitive impairment and dementia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Obesity, high body mass index, and visceral fat accumulation are associated with renal diseases. However, the association between body measurements and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is still unclear. METHODS A cohort of 7,825 participants scheduled for follow-up of CKD was recruited from 2000 to 2008 in Taiwan. A questionnaire was developed to collect the basic demographics, lifestyle variables, personal disease history, and family disease history of the participants. A 3-dimensional body surface scanning system was used to take their body measurements. The participants underwent an average follow-up of 14.3 years for evaluation of the incidence of CKD. A multiple Cox regression model was built. RESULTS Three body measurements, namely chest width (hazard ratio [HR] 1.059, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.011-1.110), waist circumference (HR 1.017, 95% CI 1.006-1.029), and thigh circumference (HR 0.941, 95% CI 0.922-0.961), were significantly associated with CKD. Two combinations of body measurements, namely the waist-to-thigh ratio and chest-to-thigh ratio, were derived to predict the occurrence of CKD. Participants with the highest quartile of waist-to-thigh ratio and chest-to-thigh ratio had a 2.175-fold and 2.182-fold risk of developing CKD, respectively. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that along with central obesity, body limb measurements can be used as an indicator to predict the occurrence of CKD. The effects of limb measurements on CKD could help provide an innovative perspective regarding the intervention to be developed for the treatment of CKD and a preventive medicine for high-risk individuals. The association of thigh circumference with CKD warrants further investigation.

Abstract
Few studies have demonstrated an association of sarcopenia-associated body measurements with chronic diseases through a comprehensive methodology. This study aims to examine the relationship between sarcopenia-associated body measurements and chronic diseases. This is a cohort study. We recruited 316 community dwellers, including 76 patients with sarcopenia and 240 controls, and obtained their body measurements associated with sarcopenia. We collected three-dimensional anthropometric body-surface measurements from 11,158 participants during 2000-2008 and followed up this cohort for 15 years to examine the association of these measurements with the risk of chronic diseases such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), heart disease, and nephrotic syndrome. Univariate analysis, canonical correlation, and Cox regression analysis were performed to explore the associations. Decreased waist width, upper left arm circumference, and left thigh circumference were significantly associated with sarcopenia. The adverse body measure score (ABMS) was derived by combining significant measurements, namely left upper arm circumference, waist width, and left thigh circumference, and used to predict the risk of hypertension, T2DM, heart diseases, and nephrotic syndrome. A positive association was observed between the ABMS and chronic diseases. Considering the first quartile of the ABMS as a reference, we determined hazard ratios of 2.259, 2.495, 1.332, and 1.595 for hypertension, T2DM, heart disease, and nephrotic syndrome, respectively, in the fourth quartile. Chronic diseases were more strongly associated with the ABMS than with sarcopenia-related body measurements alone. A high ABMS, which includes higher upper arm circumference, higher waist width, and lower thigh circumference, can significantly predict chronic diseases.

Abstract
Purpose The relationship between thigh circumference and all-cause and cause-specific mortality has not been consistent. We aimed to examine how thigh circumference associates with all-cause, cardiovascular, and cerebrovascular mortality among US adults. Patients and Methods This cohort study included 19,885 US adults who participated in the 1999–2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) with thigh circumference being measured at baseline, and survival status was ascertained until 31 December 2015. We used Cox proportional hazards models to estimate adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) for mortality according to thigh circumference in quartiles. Kaplan–Meier survival curve and restricted cubic spline regression were performed to evaluate the prospective association. Finally, subgroup analyses by age, gender, body mass index (BMI), and medical history at baseline were conducted. Results During a median follow-up of 11.9 years, 3513 cases of death, 432 death cases due to cardiovascular disease, and 143 death cases due to cerebrovascular disease have occurred. Multivariate Cox regression indicated that every 1cm increase in thigh circumference was related to 4% and 6% decreased risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality, respectively. Compared to the reference group, the highest quartile of thigh circumference significantly decreased all-cause mortality by 21% (HR 0.79, 95% CI 0.62–1.00, P<0.05). However, the association of thigh circumference with cerebrovascular mortality was not significant. BMI was a significant effect modifier among individuals with a BMI of less than 25 kg/m2 (P<0.0001). Conclusion A low thigh circumference appears to be associated with increased risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, but not cerebrovascular mortality.
