Rapid aerobic oxidation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds with dioxygen using metallodeuteroporphyrin dimethyl esters as catalysts in the presence of isobutylaldehyde

Selective oxidation of alcohols and sulfides via O2 using a Co(ii) salen complex catalyst immobilized on KCC-1: synthesis and kinetic study

The aim of this study was to immobilize a Co(ii) salen complex on KCC-1 as a catalyst that can be recovered (Co(ii) salen complex@KCC-1). Field-emission transmission electron microscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, elemental analysis, atomic absorption spectroscopy, and XRD were used to confirm the structure and chemical nature of Co(ii) salen complex@KCC-1. The oxidation efficiency was obtained for an extensive range of sulfides and alcohols using this sustainable catalyst, alongside O₂ as an oxygen source and isobutyraldehyde (IBA) as an oxygen acceptor, with superior selectivity and conversion for the relevant oxidation products (sulfoxides and ketones or aldehydes) under moderate conditions. The μ-oxo and peroxo groups on the ligands of the Co complex appeared to be responsible for the superior activity of the catalyst. Essential factors behind the oxidation of alcohol and sulfoxides were investigated, including the catalyst, solvent, and temperature. In this paper, molecular oxygen (O₂) was used as a green oxidant. Furthermore, kinetic studies were conducted, revealing a first-order reaction for the oxidation of both benzyl alcohol and sulfide. The reaction progressed at mild temperature, and the catalyst could be easily recovered and reused for numerous consecutive runs under the reaction conditions, without any substantial reduction in the functionality of the catalytic system.

Reactive Cobalt⁻Oxo Complexes of Tetrapyrrolic Macrocycles and N-based Ligand in Oxidative Transformation Reactions

High-valent cobalt–oxo complexes are reactive transient intermediates in a number of oxidative transformation processes e.g., water oxidation and oxygen atom transfer reactions. Studies of cobalt–oxo complexes are very important for understanding the mechanism of the oxygen evolution center in natural photosynthesis, and helpful to replicate enzyme catalysis in artificial systems. This review summarizes the development of identification of high-valent cobalt–oxo species of tetrapyrrolic macrocycles and N-based ligands in oxidation of organic substrates, water oxidation reaction and in the preparation of cobalt–oxo complexes.

Nickel(ii) riboflavin complex as an efficient nanobiocatalyst for heterogeneous and sustainable oxidation of benzylic alcohols and sulfides

Metallo-deuteroporphyrin as a biomimetic catalyst for the catalytic oxidation of lignin to aromatics

A series of metallo-deuteroporphyrins derived from hemin were prepared as models of the cytochrome P450 enzyme. With the aid of the highly active Co(II) deuteroporphyrin complex, the catalytic oxidation system was applied for the oxidation of several lignin model compounds, and high yields of monomeric products were obtained under mild reaction conditions. It was found that the modified cobalt deuteroporphyrin that has no substituents at the meso sites but does have the disulfide linkage in the propionate side chains at the β sites exhibited much higher activity and stability than the synthetic tetraphenylporphyrin. The changes in the propionate side chains can divert the reactivity of cobalt deuteroporphyrins from the typical CC bond cleavage to CO bond cleavage. Furthermore, this novel oxidative system can convert enzymolysis lignin into depolymerized products including a significant portion of well-defined aromatic monomers.
