A hybrid swarm intelligent optimization algorithm for antenna design problems

Meta-heuristic optimization algorithms have seen significant advancements due to their diverse applications in solving complex problems. However, no single algorithm can effectively solve all optimization challenges. The Naked Mole-Rat Algorithm (NMRA), inspired by the mating patterns of naked mole-rats, has shown promise but suffers from poor convergence accuracy and a tendency to get trapped in local optima. To address these limitations, this paper proposes an enhanced version of NMRA, called Salp Swarm and Seagull Optimization-based NMRA (SSNMRA), which integrates the search mechanisms of the Seagull Optimization Algorithm (SOA) and the Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA). This hybrid approach improves the exploration capabilities and convergence performance of NMRA. The effectiveness of SSNMRA is validated through the CEC 2019 benchmark test suite and applied to various electromagnetic optimization problems. Experimental results demonstrate that SSNMRA outperforms existing state-of-the-art algorithms, offering superior optimization capability and enhanced convergence accuracy, making it a promising solution for complex antenna design and other electromagnetic applications.

Improved Jellyfish Algorithm-based multi-aspect task scheduling model for IoT tasks over fog integrated cloud environment

Corporations and enterprises creating IoT-based systems frequently use fog computing integrated with cloud computing to harness the benefits offered by both. These computing paradigms use virtualization and a pay-as-you-go strategy to provide IT resources, including CPU, memory, network and storage. Resource management in such a hybrid environment becomes a challenging task. This problem is exacerbated in the IoT environment, as it generates deadline-driven and heterogeneous data demanding real-time processing. This work proposes an efficient two-step scheduling algorithm comprising a Bi-factor classification task phase based on deadline and priority and a scheduling phase using an enhanced artificial Jellyfish Search Optimizer (JS) proposed as an Improved Jellyfish Algorithm (IJFA). The model considers a variety of cloud and fog resource parameters, including speed, capacity, task size, number of tasks, and number of virtual machines for resource provisioning in a fog integrated cloud environment. The model has been tested for the real-time task scenario with the number of tasks considering both the smaller workload and the relatively higher workload scenario matching the real-time situation. The model addresses the Quality of Service (QoS) parameters of minimizing the batch’s make-span time, lowering the batch execution costs, and increasing the resource utilization. Simulation results prove the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Enhancing Firefly Algorithm with Dual-Population Topology Coevolution

The firefly algorithm (FA) is a meta-heuristic swarm intelligence optimization algorithm. It simulates the social behavior of fireflies with their flash and attraction characteristics. Numerous researches showed that FA can successfully deal with some problems. However, too many attractions between the fireflies may result in high computational complexity, slow convergence, low solution accuracy and poor algorithm stability. To overcome these issues, this paper proposes an enhanced firefly algorithm with dual-population topology coevolution (DPTCFA). In DPTCFA, to maintain population diversity, a dual-population topology coevolution mechanism consisting of the scale-free and ring network topology is proposed. The scale-free network topology structure conforms to the distribution law between the optimal and potential individuals, and the ring network topology effectively reduces the attractions, and thereby has a low computational complexity. The Gauss map strategy is introduced in the scale-free network topology population to lower parameter sensitivity, and in the ring network topology population, a new distance strategy based on dimension difference is adopted to speed up the convergence. This paper improves a diversity neighborhood enhanced search strategy for firefly position update to increase the solution quality. In order to balance the exploration and exploitation, a staged balance mechanism is designed to enhance the algorithm stability. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm is verified via several well-known benchmark functions. Experiment results show that DPTCFA can efficiently improve the existing problems of FA to obtain better solutions.
