Abstract
Articles published in the Rehabilitation Counseling Bulletin ( RCB) from 2000 to 2019 were analyzed for trends in author characteristics (e.g., gender, work setting, country of domicile, leading contributors) and article content (e.g., research methodology, participants, research design, statistics used, reports of effect size). Fong Chan was the leading contributor scholar and the University of Memphis was the leading institutional contributor. Among other key results, greater author collaboration was noted, and international lead authorship increased significantly to nearly 14%. Research-based articles are being published at a counseling discipline-leading rate of 96%, and almost all research article variables were relatively stable over the 20 years assessed.

Kalkbrenner MT. Examining Global Wellness, Anxiety Severity, and Depression Severity among Black and Latinx Adults: Implications for Counseling. JOURNAL OF MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING 2023; 45:34-52. [PMID: 37829293 PMCID: PMC10569159 DOI: 10.17744/mehc.45.1.03] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Grants] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 10/14/2023]
Abstract
The effectiveness of Global Wellness (combined mental and physical health) among samples of primarily White clients is well-documented in the literature. However, the Global Wellness literature is lacking research among ethnic minority populations who tend to face healthcare inequities. For example, Black and Latinx adults in the U.S. face inequities in the quality and accessibility of mental and physical healthcare services, including unique risks for anxiety and depression. In this study, a national random sample, (N = 4,009) was recruited (stratified by age, gender, and geographic region of the U.S.) of Latinx and Black adults to examine the association between Anxiety Severity and Depression Severity with Global Wellness as well as demographic differences in Global Wellness. Anxiety and depression emerged as significant negative predictors of Global Wellness and results revealed a number of demographic differences in Global Wellness. Implications for counseling practice and how mental health counselors can reduce healthcare disparities are discussed.

Abstract
Black autistic individuals, regardless of age, have not been centered in autism research. Instead, they often exist on the margins-on the periphery of autism research. In fact, Black autistic adults are largely absent from the literature. Most participants in autism research are majority-white autistic individuals and families. In this conceptual article, we use intersectionality and Dis/ability Studies and Critical Race Theory theories to contextualize Black autistic adults' experiences. Second, we argue that systemic disparities and methodological concerns are two contributors to the scholarly neglect of Black autistic adults in autism research. Third, we provide guidelines to support researchers in moving from neglect to inclusive research with Black autistic adults.
