Abstract
Human cartilage glycoprotein 39 (YKL-40) is related with presence and extent of atherosclerosis, which can be a new biomarker of inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. The relationship between YKL-40 and endothelial dysfunction in patients with essential hypertension (EH) has not been intensively investigated. The relationship between serum level of YKL-40 and endothelial dysfunction was evaluated in 60 EH subjects and 50 normal control (NEH) subjects. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to measure serum levels of YKL-40. Brachial artery flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) was used to measure endothelial-dependent nitric oxide-mediated vasodilatory capacity as the function of endothelial index. This study demonstrated that YKL-40 expression was significantly increased ( p < 0.05) in EH subjects compared with NEH subjects. The FMD was significantly impaired in EH subjects compared with NEH subjects. YKL-40 was not only negatively correlated with FMD, but also with carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT). Multiple liner regression analysis identified that YKL-40 was independent of FMD development. The level of YKL-40 was elevated in EH patients and inversely related with FMD and may be independent of endothelial dysfunction in EH.

Influence of circadian blood pressure alterations on serum SCUBE-1 and soluble CD40 ligand levels in patients with essential hypertension. AMERICAN JOURNAL OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE 2019; 9:42-48. Abstract
BACKGROUND Dipper and non-dipper hypertension are different clinical forms of essential hypertension. In this study, the effect of circadian blood pressure changes on serum SCUBE-1 and soluble CD40 ligand (sCD40L) levels was investigated in patients with hypertension. METHODS A total of 100 participants aged 23-89 years were included in the study. Patients with essential hypertension were followed up by ambulatory blood pressure measurement. RESULTS Serum SCUBE1 levels were significantly higher in the non-dipper group than in the normal group (P < 0.001). Dipper and non-dipper patients had significantly higher serum sCD40L levels when compared to the normal group (P = 0.048 and P = 0.035, respectively). We also found a positive correlation between SCUBE1, sCD40L levels and 24-hour mean systolic blood pressure levels (r: 0.232, p: 0.034 and r: 0.241, p: 0.027, respectively). CONCLUSION Serum SCUBE1 and sCD40L levels were higher in hypertensive patients than normal participants. Serum SCUBE1 levels were higher in patients with non-dipper compared to other participants.

Pentraxin 3 as a marker of endothelial dysfunction in young women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Scand J Clin Lab Invest 2019; 79:419-423. Abstract
One of the consequences of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an increased risk of early development of cardiovascular diseases. Pentraxin-3 (PTX-3) is a new potential marker of endothelial dysfunction. The aim of the study was to assess PTX3 and other markers of endothelial dysfunction in PCOS women. The study enrolled 99 stable body mass PCOS women (17 normal weight, 21 overweight and 61 obese). Anthropometric measurements and serum/plasma levels of glucose, insulin, lipids, estradiol, testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin, 17-OH progesterone, free androgen index, pentraxin-3 (PTX3), soluble intercellular (sICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (sVCAM-1), endothelin-1 and total nitric oxide metabolites (tNO) concentrations were assessed. Groups were divided into tercile-subgroups according to PTX3 serum levels. Serum PTX3 tercile-subgroups significantly differed in respect to tNO, endothelin-1 and sVCAM-1, but not sICAM-1. The levels of tNO, endothelin-1 and sVCAM-1 were significantly decreased in the subgroup with the lowest PTX3 levels compared to both middle (tNO and endothelin 1) and upper tercile subgroups (all of them). There were significant positive correlations between log10(PTX3) and log10(tNO) (r = 0.34, p < .001), log10(endothelin-1) (r = 0.41, p < .001) as well as sVCAM-1 levels (r = 0.22, p < .05). Circulating PTX-3 levels seem to be a marker of endothelial dysfunction in PCOS women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Endothelial dysfunction is one of the main pathological processes of hypertension. The association of serum pentraxin-3 (PTX3) levels and endothelial dysfunction becomes a more interesting scientific research issue due to high potential of PTX3 as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker. We aimed to investigate the relationship between serum PTX3 levels and flow-mediated dilation results in patients with dipper and non-dipper hypertension. METHODS This study included 90 hypertensive patients were divided into two groups based on 24 hours ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM): 38 patients with a dipper pattern and 52 patients with non-dipper pattern. Noninvasive evaluation of the endothelial functions was performed using flow-mediated dilation (FMD) method. RESULTS Serum pentraxin-3 levels were higher in patients with non-dipper HT compared to dipper hypertension (P = 0.028). In addition, we found negative correlation between serum PTX3 and FMD basal/FMD hyperemia ratio (r = -0.297, P = 0.05 for FMD basal/FMD hyperemia ratio, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Serum PTX3 levels are closely related with the measures of indirect noninvasive evaluation methods (FMD) in both DH and NDH patients.
