Abstract
BACKGROUND Medium-term evaluate the bond strength and tag formation in root dentin using self-adhesive cements Maxcem Elite (MCE), Relyx U200 (RU2), SeT PP (SPP) and Megalink (MGL) compared to conventional cement Relyx ARC (ARC) for glass fibre post cementation. MATERIALS AND METHODS One hundred bovine incisors roots were endodontically treated and divided into 5 groups (n = 20) according to the cementation system: MCE, RU2, SPP, MGL and ARC. All cementation systems were evaluated at 24 h (1) and 12 months (2) after post cementation. Specimens from the cervical, middle and apical thirds of the root were submitted to push-out bond strength test and confocal laser microscopy to verify the dentin penetration. The adhesive failure mode was classified as adhesive, cohesive and mixed. Data were analysed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (α = 5%). RESULTS ARC-1 and ARC-12 showed the highest bond strength (P < 0.05). ARC showed the greatest tag extension, regardless of the third (P < 0.05). The most frequent failure mode in the 24-h analysis was cohesive, regardless of the cement used. For the 12-month analysis, mixed failure was the most frequent. CONCLUSION Conventional cement (ARC) showed the highest bond strength and tag extension, regardless of the evaluation period. In all cementation systems, the bond strength decreased after 12 months. © 2023 Australian Dental Association.

Abstract
The study evaluated the persistence of residues, bond strength and tags formation of a cementation system after post-space irrigation with different sodium hypochlorite-based irrigants. The groups were divided according to the irrigation protocol (DW: distilled water; SHS: sodium hypochlorite solution; SHG: sodium hypochlorite gel; and, SHT: sodium hypochlorite with surfactant). Forty roots (n=10) were used to evaluate the persistence of residues by scanning electron microscopy. Other forty roots were used to the push-out bond strength test, failure mode and tag formation analyses. Non-parametric data were submitted to Kruskal Wallis and Dunn tests, while parametric data were evaluated by one-way ANOVA. No difference was observed in the persistence of residues. DW showed the highest bond strength and tag formation. Type 2 failure mode was the most frequent in the experimental groups. Compared to control, SHT showed the best performance, since less negative effects on adhesive interface was observed.

Abstract
Background This study aimed to evaluate the effects of using three different resin cements on push-out bond strength (PBS) of fiber posts to root canal dentin of primary teeth. Methods Fifty primary canines were randomly divided into five experimental groups according to the type of the luting agent used for fiber post cementation after endodontic treatment and post space preparation as the following: Group 1: glass ionomer cement (GIC), Group 2: flowable resin composite, Group 3: etch and rinse (E&R) resin cement, Group 4: self-etch (SE) resin cement, Group 5: self-adhesive (SA) resin cement. The PBS values of the cemented fiber posts to root canals were measured. The data were statistically analyzed using a one-way analysis of variance, followed by Tukey's post hoc test. Results The highest mean PBS value was observed in Group 4 (SE resin cement), followed by Group 3 (E&R resin cement), and the lowest PBS value belonged to Group 1 (GIC), followed by Group 5 (p-values < 0.05). The mean PBS of Group 3 (E&R resin cement) was significantly higher than those of Groups 1 (GIC), 2 (flowable resin composite), and 5 (SA resin cement) (p-values < 0.05). However, no significant difference was found between the mean PBS of GIC and SA resin cement (p-value >0/05). Conclusion Using SE resin cement for fiber post cementation in primary anterior teeth showed the best results, followed by E&R resin cement. The lowest PBS was observed for GIC, followed by SA resin cement.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of aging and cementation of fiber posts using glass ionomer and resin cements on push-out bond strength, failure mode, and resin tag formation. One hundred and twenty bovine incisors were used. After post-space preparation, the specimens were randomly allocated into 12 groups (n = 10) according to the cementation system used: GC - GC Gold Label Luting & Lining); RL - RelyX Luting 2; MC - MaxCem Elite; RU - RelyX U200 and the aging periods (24 hours, 6 months, and 12 months). Slices from the cervical, middle, and apical thirds were obtained and analyzed by push-out bond strength test and confocal laser scanning microscopy. One-way ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc test was used at a significance level of 5%. For the push-out bond strength test, no differences among GC, RU, and MC in the cervical and middle thirds were observed, regardless of the period of storage (P > 0.05). In the apical third, GC and RU showed similar bond strength but higher than other groups (P > 0.05). After 12 months, GC showed the highest bond strength (P < 0.05). Bond strength to post-space dentin decreased over time, regardless of the cementation system used. Cohesive failure was the most frequent, regardless of the period of storage, cementation system, and post-space third. Tag formation was similar among all groups. After 12 months, GC showed the highest bond strength values.

Abstract
Glass ionomer cements (GICs), restorative materials with commercial availability spanning over five decades, are widely applied due to their advantages (including bio-compatibility, fluoride release, or excellent bonding properties). However, GICs have shortcomings. Among the disadvantages limiting the application of GICs, the poor mechanical properties are the most significant. In order to enhance the mechanical or antimicrobial properties of these materials, the addition of nanomaterials represents a viable approach. The present paper aims to review the literature on the application of different types of nanomaterials for the enhancement of GICs' mechanical and antimicrobial properties, which could lead to several clinical benefits, including better physical properties and the prevention of tooth decay. After applying the described methodology, representative articles published in the time period 2011-present were selected and included in the final review, covering the modification of GICs with metallic nanoparticles (Cu, Ag), metallic and metalloid oxide nanoparticles (TiO2, ZnO, MgO, Al2O3, ZrO2, SiO2), apatitic nanomaterials, and other nanomaterials or multi-component nanocomposites.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study evaluated the effects of final agitation methods of irrigants to remove methylene blue and sodium hypochlorite residues after PDT-assisted endodontic treatment on the bond strength of fiber posts cemented with etch-and-rinse adhesive and conventional resin cement. METHODS Ninety bovine teeth were endodontically treated. In sequence, post space preparation followed by methylene blue-mediated PDT and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) irrigation were performed. Six final irrigations protocols for dye and NaOCl removal were performed prior to cementation with etch-and-rinse adhesive (Adper Scocthbond Multipurpose) and conventional dual resin cement (RelyX ARC): Conventional endodontic irrigation (CEI), passive ultrasonic irrigation (PUI), mechanical agitation with XP Endo Finisher (XPF), XP Clean (XPC) or Easy Clean (ECL) and distilled water (NCO - control). After fiber post cementation, push-out bond strength test was performed at different thirds of the post space. Failure mode was also analyzed. ANOVA and Tukey's post-hoc test was used for data analysis (α=5%). RESULTS PUI, XPF e XPC protocols showed the highest bond strength values with no difference among them (p > 0.05), although they were similar to NCO, regardless of the post space third. CEI e ECL showed similar bond strength values, regardless of the third (p > 0.05). Adhesive failure was the most incident for CEI and ECL, while mixed and cohesive failures were predominant in PUI, XPF, XPC and NCO groups. CONCLUSIONS Mechanical agitation of distilled water with XPF, XPC and PUI after methylene blue-mediated PDT and irrigation with 2.5% sodium hypochlorite promoted bond strength of the resin cementation system in post space dentin comparable to control group.

Abstract
Abstract Introduction Endodontically treated teeth are usually affected by extensive structure loss requiring the use of intraradicular posts to provide retention and restoration. Objective An in vitro assessment was performed on the bonding of glass fiber posts to the root dentin. Material and method Ninety (n = 10) single bovine roots were used in a 3 x 3 x 3 factorial study with subdivided plots: post customization varying the presence and type of resin (without customization, conventional resin, and Bulk Fill resin), light-curing device (Valo, Radii-Cal, Rainbow), and root third (cervical, middle, and apical). Result For the customization factor, Tukey’s test (5%) showed the superiority of the Bulk Fill (8.16 MPa) and Z350 (7.40 MPa) groups compared to the control group (4.92 MPa), without differing from each other. All light-curing devices differed, showing the superiority of Valo (9.36 MPa), Radii (6.96 MPa) as an intermediate, and the inferiority of Rainbow (4.17 MPa). The cervical root third (7.81 MPa) was superior, the apical third was inferior (5.80 MPa), and the middle third (6.88 MPa) was an intermediate without differing from the others. Conclusion The customization of glass fiber posts increases the bond strength to the root dentin, regardless of the resin used. There was a compromise in the apical third and when using light-curing devices with lower light intensity.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the effect of fiber post customization on the bond strength (24 hours and 6 months), resin cement thickness, and dentinal penetrability of Adper Scotchbond Multi-Purpose - RelyX ARC (AS-RA), RelyX U200 (R2), and Scotchbond Universal - RelyX Ultimate (SU-RU) cementation systems to root dentin from the cervical-, middle-, and apical-thirds of the post space. METHODS One hundred twenty bovine incisors were endodontically treated. After post space preparation, the roots were divided into six groups, according to the luting protocols (AS-RA, R2, SU- RU) and the type of fiber post [noncustomized post (NC) and customized post (C)]. Customization procedures were peformed using a resin composite (Z350 XT). 24 hours (n=60) or 6 months later (n=60), specimens from the cervical-, middle-, and apical-thirds of the post space were submitted to cementation system thickness measurement, bond strength evaluation, and dentinal penetrability analysis with Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM). Failure mode was classified as adhesive, cohesive, or mixed. Data were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey tests (α=0.05). RESULTS Cementation protocols with customized fiber posts presented the lowest cementation system thickness, regardless of the cementation system or post space-third (p<0.05), and the highest bond strength values (p<0.05), regardless of the third space (p>0.05), for both periods (24 hours or 6 months). The comparison of push-out bond strength values between 24 hours and 6 months showed a reduction in all groups for the cervical-third (p<0.05). For the middle-third, only noncustomized groups showed reduction (p<0.05). For the apical-third, no reduction was observed (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Anatomical customization favored both the bond strength of cements to dentin and the dentinal penetrability, but with lower cementation system thickness, regardless of cement composition and adhesive strategy.

Abstract
AIM To assess the push-out bond strength (PBS) of glass fiber post (GFP) conditioned using different surface treatment regimens bonded to radicular dentin MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sixty central incisors and canine were collected and disinfected. Decoronation following working length was determined using K-file. Rotary file system was used for cleaning and shaping. Canals of all samples were dried with paper points and obturated with gutta percha. Canal space was prepared with peso reamers. Now samples were randomly allocated into six groups based on pretreatment of GFP. Post in group 1 treated with 9% HFA+ Silane, post in group 2 surface treated with silane only, Post in group 3 surface treated with airborne particle (50 µm), group 4 post conditioned with photodynamic therapy (PDT), group 5 post pretreatment was performed with MBP and in group 6 GFP was not treated. Conditioned and non-conditioned posts were positioned in canal space and cemented. Tooth were sectioned coronally, middle and apically. Sections were positioned in universal testing machine (UTM) and debonded surfaces were evaluated for failure modes. The means and standard deviations of PBS were examined using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). RESULTS Coronal third of group 3 in which posts were sandblasted using airborne Al2O3 particle presented the highest PBS (11.21±0.64 MPa). Whereas, an apical section of group 4 in which posts were treated with PDT exhibited the lowest bond integrity. CONCLUSION Sandblasting using airborne particles (50 µm) and hydrogen peroxide (H3PO4) conditioned with GFP exhibited significantly higher bond strength as compared to the control. However, PDT decreases the PBS of fiber post with the root dentin.

This research aims to determine the attitudes of the farmers whose lands are affected by liquefaction in Jono Oge, Central Sulawesi Province, The Republic of Indonesia. The methods used here were integrated survey and experimental design. The survey approach was intended to figure out the attitudes of the farmers viewpoints: (1) to return to their activities on the agricultural lands affected by liquefaction; (2) to consume their own agricultural products; and (3) of their willingness to be relocated. The experimental design approach was used to figure out the effectiveness of organic material input combined with the SP-36 fertilizer. The obtained results were analyzed using the Likert Scale, diversity test, correlational test, and regression test. The results showed that the farmers persevered farming on the lands affected by liquefaction (Index = 88.82%) yet refused to consume their own agricultural products with the reason that corpses remained buried beneath their lands (Index = 27.82%); and they also refused to be relocated (Index = 28.80%). The continued production suitability of the affected land was also investigated. Terrain profile identification results in Jono Oge showed the disaster impact was dominantly landslide as it still showed a clear characteristic horizon between the topsoil and the sub soil. This contrasts to terrain at Petobo, Central Sulawesi Province, where the high mix of the topsoil with the sub soil of agricultural land affected by liquefaction, prevented demarcation of the horizon. The land treatment of organic material and SP-36 fertilizer showed that the combined dose (M) of 40-kg ha-1 with P 300-kg ha-1 had the highest effect by changing the field pH from 5.7 to 6.41, increased the availability of P and increased the corncob indicator plant weight. Based on these indications, the lands affected by the liquefaction in Jono Oge can still be used as agricultural lands through restoration, from both social and technical aspects.

Abstract
Background The aim was to analyze the fracture resistance of human teeth treated endodontically and restored with posts made of bovine dentin, human dentin, or glass fiber, and to evaluate the fracture pattern. Methods Cylindrical posts of 1.5 mm in diameter cemented to the roots of human maxillary canines presented a length of 15 mm, cervical diameter of 5–5.5 mm in the mesiodistal direction, and 7–7.5 mm in the vestibule-palatal direction. The groups studied were: Group I—10 glass fiber posts; Group II—10 human dentin posts; Group III—10 bovine dentin posts (self-adhesive resin cement); and Group IV—10 bovine dentin posts (resin-modified glass-ionomer cements). The coronal part of tooth was restored with a standardized core build-up using composite. All of the groups were submitted to a compression force test and the resistance to fracture was verified using a universal testing machine. The fracture pattern was likewise evaluated.
Results The values of resistance to fracture were: 723.3N in group I, 561.5N in group II, 556.6N in group III, and, 613.27N in group IV. However, no statistically significant difference was observed among the groups. The fractures in groups I and II were most commonly found in the middle/apical third and were considered irreparable. For restored teeth in group III, half of the fractures appeared in the cervical third and were reparable. In group IV, all of the fractures were reparable, with the majority in the cervical thirds. Conclusion Bovine dentin can be used as intraradicular post to substitute human dentin and glass fiber posts. The greater the malleability of the post, the greater the chances of survival of the teeth when subjected to fracture testing.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Whether ultrasonic activation of the adhesive system improves dentin tubule penetration and the bond strength of fiber posts to root dentin is unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of ultrasonic activation of 2 adhesive systems (etch-and-rinse and self-etch) and 1 glass ionomer cement on the dentin tubule penetration and pushout bond strength of fiber posts to root dentin. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty maxillary central incisors were endodontically treated and divided into 6 groups (n=10) as per the post cementation strategy: etch-and-rinse, etch-and-rinse and ultrasonic, self-etch, self-etch and ultrasonic, glass ionomer cement, and glass ionomer cement and ultrasonic. The primers, the adhesives, and the glass ionomer cement were activated for 20 seconds each, and the fiber posts were cemented with a resin cement. Dentin tubule penetration was evaluated by confocal laser scanning microscopy and the pushout bond strength measured at 3 post locations: cervical, middle, and apical. The failure patterns were also described after pushout testing. RESULTS Self-etch and ultrasonic showed higher dentin tubule penetration than the other cementation strategies (P<.05) and improved the bond strength values (P<.05), which were higher than etch-and-rinse and ultrasonic and glass ionomer cement and ultrasonic (P<.05). Adhesive failures at the cement and dentin interface were predominant in the etch-and-rinse, self-etch, and self-etch and ultrasonic groups. CONCLUSIONS Ultrasonic activation improved the dentin tubule penetration of a self-etch adhesive system. The bond strength of fiber posts cemented with a self-etch adhesive system and a resin cement was improved after ultrasonic activation.

Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM The post space must be prepared with techniques that do not interfere with the bond strength. These techniques are related to the availability of opened dentinal tubules and incidence of residue among the dentin, the adhesive, and the cement. Nevertheless, the effect of different irrigants during endodontic instrumentation is unclear. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the incidence of residue, the number of opened dentinal tubules, and the bond strength of the cementation system to root dentin of post space after 3 different irrigation protocols. MATERIAL AND METHODS The roots of bovine incisors were obturated, prepared to receive a fiber post, and divided into 3 groups as per the irrigation protocol: without irrigation, with alternating irrigation, and with continuous irrigation. Thirty roots (n=10) were evaluated by using scanning electron microscopy to assess the incidence of residue (×100 magnification) and the number of opened dentinal tubules (×2000 magnification). The fiber posts were cemented, and the remaining specimens (n=10) were subjected to pushout testing and failure mode evaluation. RESULTS All protocols presented a similar incidence of residue, regardless of the post space third (P>.05). The irrigation protocol without irrigation had the lowest number of opened dentinal tubules in the cervical and middle thirds (P<.05). The number of opened dentinal tubules was similar in all protocols in the apical third of the post space (P>.05). The irrigation protocol without irrigation had the lowest bond strength values in the cervical and middle thirds (P<.05). The irrigation protocol with continuous irrigation had the highest bond strength values in the apical third (P<.05). CONCLUSIONS Post space preparation without irrigation negatively affected the bond strength of the resin cementation system to root dentin.

Abstract
Objective
To reevaluate proven strengths and weakness of glass ionomer cements (GICs) and to identify agreement versus conflicting evidence in previous reports regarding the transition between GIC and the tooth, and the existence of an “interphase”.
Materials and methods
Relevant electronic databases (PubMed, Embase via Ovid and Medline via Web of science) were searched for publications of evidence relating to the transition zone at the GIC-tooth interphase. Studies were examined and grouped according to characteristics of GIC-tooth attachment area quantified by X-ray and optical microscopy techniques in 2D and 3D.
Results
Inclusion criteria comprised of in vitro studies that showed images of the conventional GIC-tooth substrate attachments using at least one of the following techniques: SEM, CLSM, or μCT. The search identified 419 studies, from which 33 were included. Ten studies demonstrated the existence of an interphase layer and five studies quantified the layer thickness (1–15 μ). Twenty-nine publications studied different failure modes of the GIC-tooth interphase. Eleven studies described discontinuities inside the GIC bulk.
Conclusion
The GIC-tooth interphase attributes evolve with time. Good attachment is evident even under compromised surface preparation. The GIC-tooth attachment area is resistant to acidic dissolution as compared to both tooth and GIC bulk. In general, studies revealed mostly intact GIC-tooth interphases with only some cracked interphases.
Clinical significance
GIC bonds to the tooth structure and forms an acid resistant attachment zone that might enhance caries inhibition. Due to fluoride release and ease of use, GIC provides a cost effective treatment, ideal for low income or high caries populations.

Abstract
This experimental study aims to evaluate the radiopacity of various fiber post materials and to determine the effects of material composition as analyzed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectrophotometry (EDS; EDAX Team Software; EDAX, Inc., Mahwah, NJ) on radiopacity. Five specimens of seven fiber post materials with 2-mm thickness were prepared and digital radiographs were taken with an aluminum stepwedge (SW) and 2-mm-thick tooth slice. The mean gray values (MGVs) of specimens were measured using the histogram function of a computer graphics program (Adobe Photoshop CS6; Adobe System, Inc., San Jose, CA). The MGVs of fiber post materials were compared with an aluminum SW and dentin of equal thickness. The fiber post specimens were examined by scanning electron microscopy and EDS analysis performed for the elementary analysis of material composition. The MGVs of fiber posts ranged between 83.67 ± 3.64 and 57.80 ± 7.08 pixels. Materials were sorted in descending order of MGV as follows: Reforpost, Carbopost, D.T. Light-Post, Easypost, Glassix Radiopaque, Dentolic Glass Fiber Post, and RelyX Fiber Post. All fiber posts demonstrated significantly higher radiopacity values than 2-mm-thick aluminum (p < .05). EDS analysis results indicated that the evaluated fiber posts included various elements for radiopacity in different ratios. All tested fiber post materials showed radiopacity values above the minimum recommendations of the International Organization for Standardization. EDS analysis results indicated that each manufacturer used different compositions of elements like zirconium, barium, titanium, and iron for achieving radiopacity in materials.
