Abstract
The present study aims to utilize green synthesis to fabricate stimuli-responsive, smart, quince/pectin cross-linked hydrogel sponges for the pH-regulated conveyance of domperidone. The designed hydrogel sponges were evaluated for a sol-gel fraction (%), swelling studies and kinetics, drug loading (%), electrolyte-responsive character, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermal analysis, drug-excipient compatibility studies (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, mechanical testing, in-vitro drug release studies, and acute oral toxicity studies. The drug loading (%) ranged from 67 to 85%. Hydrogel sponges displayed pH-responsive swelling potential, with optimum swelling in a phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) and insignificant swelling in an acidic buffer of pH 1.2. The prepared hydrogel sponges displayed second-order swelling dynamics. The FTIR data revealed the successful fabrication of the hydrogel sponges with the primary drug peaks remaining unchanged, demonstrating excipients-drug compatibility. SEM confirmed the rough, porous surface of hydrogel sponges with numerous cracks. XRD measurements revealed the transformation of the crystalline nature of domperidone into an amorphous one within the developed hydrogel sponges. Dissolution studies revealed little domperidone release in an acidic environment. However, hydrogel sponges exhibited release up to 10 h in phosphate buffer.The sponge's non-toxic or biocompatible character was confirmed through toxicological studies. Thus, the finding indicates that quince/pectin cross-linked hydrogel sponges are durable enough to deliver the domperidone to the gut for a longer time.

Abstract
Water pollution, which has become a global problem in parallel with environmental pollution, is a problem that needs to be solved urgently, considering the gradual depletion of water resources. The inadequacy of the water treatment methods and the materials used somehow directed the researchers to look for dual character structures such as biocompatible and biodegradable β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). β-CD, which is normally insoluble in water, is used in demanding wastewater applications by being modified with the help of different agents to be water soluble or transformed into polymeric adsorbents as a result of co-polymerization via cross-linkers. In this way, in addition to the host-guest interactions offered by β-CD, secondary forces arising from these interactions provide advantages in terms of regeneration and reusability. However, the adsorption efficiency and synthesis steps need to be improved. Based on the current studies presented in this review, in which cross-linkers and modification methods are also mentioned, suggestions for novel synthesis methods of new-generation β-CD-based materials, criticisms, and recent methods of removal of micropollutants such as heavy metals, industrial dyes, harmful biomolecules, and pharmaceutics wastes are mentioned.

Abstract
In this research, we report on the synthesis of mesoporous silicas with various quantities of immobilized oligosaccharide groups and different pore ordering degree. The hydrothermal co-condensation of tetraethyl orthosilicate and β-cyclodextrin-containing organosilane in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide template was employed. The purpose of this investigation was to show the opportunity of increasing β-cyclodextrin content in silica matrix by changing the molar ratio of initial reagents during organosilane synthesis and to determine whether the enhancing of immobilized groups on the surface influences on model aromatic compound adsorption from water. It was prepared several β-cyclodextrin-organosilanes by modification of (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane with oligosaccharide (the molar composition of reaction mixtures were 1:1, 3:1, and 5:1) with using N,N'-carbonyldiimidazole as linking agent. Three types of MCM-41 materials were obtained with 0.018, 0.072, and 0.095 mmol g-1 β-cyclodextrin-group loading according to chemical analysis of silicas. The IR spectroscopy and potentiometric titration were also performed to confirm the presence of functional groups in the silica matrix. Nitrogen sorptometry experiments exhibited the decrease of high surface area (from 812 to 457 m2 g-1) and the average pore diameter (from 1.06 to 0.60 cm3 g-1) of synthesized silicas with increasing of immobilized oligosaccharide groups. The influence of β-cyclodextrin-organosilane presence on the forming of hexagonally arranged porous structure of silicas was evaluated by X-ray diffraction and TEM analyses. As the loading of oligosaccharide groups increases in obtained silicas, the (100) reflex in diffraction patterns is even less intense and broader, denoting the decrease of long-range pore ordering. Adsorption experiments were carried out to study the effect of β-cyclodextrin groups' attendance in silica matrix on benzene uptakes from aqueous solutions. Experimental kinetic curves of benzene adsorption on synthesized silicas were compared with theoretical models of Lagergren and Ho-McKay for pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order processes. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to evaluate adsorption processes and parameters. Obtained β-cyclodextrin-containing MCM-41 silicas demonstrate adsorption level performance of known samples and could be very promising for benzene uptakes from aqueous solutions in water treatment processes.

Abstract
The application of iron oxide nanoparticles [IONPs] in biomedical research is progressively increasing, leading to the rapid development of biocompatible and surface modified IONPs. However, there is still a need of information pertaining to its cellular and acute toxicity profile. This work reports the synthesis of β-cyclodextrin coated iron oxide nanoparticles (βCD-IONPs) and their characterization using spectroscopic (FT-IR), thermal (TGA) and surface analysis (TEM, SEM, BET and Zeta potential). All the characterization techniques displayed the synthesis of well dispersed, rod shaped βCD-IONPs of 45nm. Time dependent cellular uptake of these nanoparticles was also evaluated using Prussian blue staining. Further, cytocompatibility analysis was executed in mouse fibroblast cell line (NIH 3T3) using MTT and LDH assays, respectively which did not show any cytotoxic indications of βCD-IONPs. Finally, acute toxicity analysis was carried out in female Wistar rats according to OECD guidelines 420. Rats were exposed to the highest dose (2000mg/kg) of βCD-IONPs along with control and observed for 14days. After two weeks of administration, tissues and blood were collected and subjected to histopathological and biochemical analysis (SGOT, SGPT and ALP). Animals were sacrificed and gross necropsy was carried out. It has been shown that βCD-IONPs does not have any significant toxic effect at the cellular level. Thus, this study provides new perspectives for future biomedical applications.

Abstract
A sensitive and selective molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for the determination of diphenylamine (DPA) was developed based on host-guest interactions of a cyclodextrin-based polymer which possesses an inherent affinity for the target. The proposed GO@MIP has been prepared using the graphene oxide (GO) sheets as surface of polymerization, DPA as target molecule, β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and acrylamide (AM) as functional monomers, azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator and N, N methylene bisacrylamide (MBAm) as crosslinker which denoted as GO@MIP nanocomposite. The MIP sites were formed by the inclusion complex through interaction of DPA and β-CD, followed by extraction of target. The resulting GO@MIP nanocomposite possess a fast adsorption kinetics, highly improved imprinting effect, high adsorption capacity, and it can be applied to fast extraction of DPA. The resultant GO@MIP nanocomposite was characterized using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis. On the other hand, the non-imprinted polymer (GO@NIP nanocomposite) has been synthesized and was used in the adsorption experiments. The MIP exhibited good affinity with a maximum adsorption capacity of 95.98mgg-1 and excellent selectivity toward DPA than other structural analogues such as 2-amino benzophenone and dithizone.

The molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) based on methacrylic acid functionalized β-cyclodextrin (MAA-β-CD) monomer was synthesized for the purpose of selective recognition of benzylparaben (BzP). The MAA-β-CD monomer was produced by bridging a methacrylic acid (MAA) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) using toluene-2,4-diisocyanate (TDI) by reacting the –OH group of MAA and one of the primary –OH groups of β-CD. This monomer comprised of triple interactions that included an inclusion complex, π–π interaction, and hydrogen bonding. To demonstrate β-CD performance in MIPs, two MIPs were prepared; molecularly imprinted polymer-methacrylic acid functionalized β-cyclodextrin, MIP(MAA-β-CD), and molecularly imprinted polymer-methacrylic acid, MIP(MAA); both prepared by a reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) in the bulk polymerization process. Both MIPs were characterized using the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET). The presence of β-CD not only influenced the morphological structure, it also affected the specific surface area, average pore diameter, and total pore volume of the MIP. The rebinding of the imprinting effect was evaluated in binding experiments, which proved that the β-CD contributed significantly to the enhancement of the recognition affinity and selective adsorption of the MIP.

Abstract
Nanosponges are a novel class of hyper-crosslinked polymer based colloidal structures consisting of solid nanoparticles with colloidal sizes and nanosized cavities. These nano-sized colloidal carriers have been recently developed and proposed for drug delivery, since their use can solubilize poorly water-soluble drugs and provide prolonged release as well as improve a drug's bioavailability by modifying the pharmacokinetic parameters of actives. Development of nanosponges as drug delivery systems, with special reference to cyclodextrin based nanosponges, is presented in this article. In the current review, attempts have been made to illustrate the features of cyclodextrin based nanosponges and their applications in pharmaceutical formulations. Special emphasis has been placed on discussing the methods of preparation, characterization techniques and applications of these novel drug delivery carriers for therapeutic purposes. Nanosponges can be referred to as solid porous particles having a capacity to load drugs and other actives into their nanocavity; they can be formulated as oral, parenteral, topical or inhalation dosage forms. Nanosponges offer high drug loading compared to other nanocarriers and are thus suitable for solving issues related to stability, solubility and delayed release of actives. Controlled release of the loaded actives and solubility enhancement of poorly water-soluble drugs are major advantages of nanosponge drug delivery systems.

Abstract
This review describes the synthesis, properties, and, in particular, biomedical and pharmaceutical applications of an upcoming class of polymeric networks and assemblies based on cyclodextrins (CDs). CDs are cyclic oligosaccharides composed of alpha-1,4-coupled d-glucose units, which contain a hydrophobic internal cavity that can act as a host for various, generally lipophilic, guest molecules. Because of this unique physicochemical property, commonly referred to as inclusion complex formation, CDs have often been used to design polymeric materials, such as hydrogels and nanoparticles. Polymeric systems based on CDs exhibit unique characteristics in terms of mechanical properties, stimuli-responsiveness, and drug release characteristics. In this contribution, first, an outline is given of covalently cross-linked polymeric networks in which CD moieties were structurally incorporated to modulate the network strength as well as the complexation and release of low molecular weight drugs. Second, physically assembled polymeric systems are discussed, of which the formation is accomplished by inclusion complexes between polymer-conjugated CDs and various guest molecule-derivatized polymers. Due to their physical nature, these polymeric systems are sensitive to external stimuli, such as temperature changes, shear forces and the presence of competing CD-binding molecules, which can be exploited to use these systems as injectable, in situ gelling devices. In recent years, many interesting CD-containing polymeric systems have been described in literature. These systems have to be optimized and extensively evaluated in preclinical studies concerning their safety and efficacy, making future clinical applications of these materials in the biomedical and pharmaceutical field feasible.

Abstract
A novel magnetic nanocarrier (CD-GAMNPs) was fabricated for targeted anticancer drug delivery by grafting cyclodextrin (CD) onto gum arabic modified magnetic nanoparticles (GAMNPs) using hexamethylene diisocyanate (HMDI) as a linker. Analyses by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) revealed that the product had a mean diameter of 17.1 nm and a mean hydrodynamic diameter of 44.1 nm. The CD grafting was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) indicated that the amount of CD grafted on the GAMNPs was 16.8 mg g(-1). The study on the loading of anticancer drug all-trans-retinoic acid (retinoic acid) revealed that the newly fabricated magnetic nanocarrier possessed a considerably higher adsorption capability as compared to GAMNPs due to the special hydrophobic cavity structure of CD, which could act as a host-guest complex with retinoic acid. Furthermore, it was found that the complexation of CD-GAMNPs with retinoic acid was exothermic and the presence of a surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate) led to the decrease in the inclusion of retinoic acid because the linear structure of sodium dodecyl sulfate made it easier to enter the cavity of CD as compared to less linear retinoic acid. In addition, the in vitro release profile of retinoic acid from CD-GAMNPs was characterized by an initial fast release followed by a delayed release phase.

Abstract
N-Stearine-N'-stearyl-L-phenylalanine, a chiral compound, was synthesized and used as a gelator for the gelation of polymerizable solvents, such as ss-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), styrene, etc. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of the gelator aggregates show fibril-like helices, typical chiral aggregates with diameters of 100-200 nm. The solvent molecules were immobilized by capillary forces in the three-dimensional network structures of the organogels. The HEMA organogels containing crosslinker polyethylene glycol dimethacrylates (PEG200DMA) were subsequently polymerized by in situ UV irradiation. A porous polymerized organogels were obtained after removal of gelator aggregates through ethanol extraction. The chiral separation of D- and L-phenylalanine was carried out by the adsorption of the polymerized organogels. The adsorption efficiency of L-phenylalanine on the polymerized organogels was found to be dependent on the concentration of the gelator and crosslinker.
