Creative Thinking Counseling Teaching Program can Improve the Creativity, Creative Tendency, and Self‐Concept of Grade 7 Students: A Quasi‐Experimental Study

Associations between challenging parenting behavior and creative tendencies of children: the chain mediating roles of positive emotion and creative self-efficacy

Background

Parenting behavior has been reported to be closely associated with children's creativity, yet the association between challenging parenting behavior and children's creative tendencies, as well as the potential mechanisms connecting the two, remains ambiguous. Based on the Social Cognitive Theory and the Self-efficacy Theory, this study aims to examine the correlation between Chinese parents' challenging parenting behaviors and their children's creative tendencies, as well as the chain mediating role of children's positive emotions and creative self-efficacy.

Methods

In total, 2,647 families were surveyed with questionnaires completed by parents on the Challenging Parenting Behaviors Scale and by children on the Positive/Negative Emotions Scale, the Creative Self-efficacy Scale, and the Williams Creative Tendency Test Scale, and analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) in SPSS 22.0 and Mplus 8.3.

Results

The findings indicate that challenging parenting behavior has a positive correlation with children's positive emotions, creative self-efficacy, and creative tendencies. Through positive emotions, creative self-efficacy, and a chain mediated pathway between these two variables, challenging parenting behaviors increase children's creative tendencies.

Conclusion

The favorable impacts of challenging parenting behaviors on children's creative tendencies, with the mediating effects of children's positive emotions and creative self-efficacy, may help Chinese parents better grasp the mechanisms underlying this association.

Effectiveness of gamification and selection of appropriate teaching methods of creativity: Students' perspectives

Complex creativity and multiple learning objectives often require combining several teaching methods, and gamification may be an effective teaching strategy for enhancing learning. However, few studies have examined the combined effects of implementing gamification and multiple teaching methods in a course from students' perspectives. Therefore, this study implemented gamification and six teaching methods of enhancing college students' creativity in university creativity and innovation course in November and December 2021 and aimed to examine the effects on their creativity, collaboration, and communication skills and used the Analytical Hierarchy Process to identify more effective teaching methods corresponding to the learning objectives from students' perspectives. The results showed that students perceive that gamification could stimulate their motivation, attitudes, and interest in learning and enhance their creativity, collaboration, and communication skills. Furthermore, Mandala thinking was the most effective teaching method for the overall goal. In contrast, the most effective teaching methods for the creativity, collaboration, and communication skills learning objectives were the SCAMPER technique, balloon competition, and Mandala thinking, respectively. The results provide essential references for selecting effective teaching methods that meet the teaching objectives.

Research on the cultivation of sustainable development ability of higher vocational students by creative thinking teaching method

Education for sustainable development (ESD) is an important guideline for United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Students' creative thinking can be applied to various disciplines, promoting sustainable learning. Most of Taiwan's beauty and hairdressing technical education teachers mainly teach students to imitate, and students' works lack creativity and thinking. A total of 43 higher vocational college students participated, 23 of whom were in the experimental group using the creative thinking teaching method and 20 of whom were in the control group using the traditional teaching method. The results show that the creative thinking teaching method can effectively improve students' learning outcomes in the multimedia material creation course, including breaking through the limitation of thinking, putting forward different ideas and answers, and constantly innovating, to make the presented results more creative and meaningful. The creative thinking teaching methods solve students' trouble in creative problem solving, enhance students' problem solving and critical thinking skills, and improve students' involvement in the study.

Factors Influencing the Creativity of Chinese Upper-Secondary-School Students Participating in Programming Education

Purpose: This study explored whether instructional characteristics, learner characteristics, family socioeconomic status, and gender influence creativity in the context of programming education in China. Methods: A total of 851 upper-secondary-school students in Beijing, China, were surveyed using the Creativity Scale, Programming Learning Scale, Programming Teaching Scale and Family Socioeconomic Status Questionnaire. SPSS (version 22) was used for correlation analysis, t-test and regression analysis. Results: (1) Teachers' programming teaching method and management; students' programming learning approach, attitude, and engagement; gender; and family economic capital were all significantly associated with creativity. (2) There were significant differences between males and females in terms of creativity, programming learning approach and programming learning attitude. (3) Learner attitudes, engagement, and approach, and their family economic capital, were strong predictors of creativity, with the strongest influence of learners' attitudes to programming learning and weaker influence of family economic capital. Conclusion: The main factors that influence creativity in the context of programming education are programming teaching method, programming teaching management, programming learning approach, programming learning attitude, programming learning engagement and family economic capital. Among these, learner factors (attitude, engagement, and approach) and family economic capital are the key factors influencing creativity. These findings provide a basis for improving the creativity of Chinese programming learners and inspire teachers to consider learner factors and gender differences as they design and manage their instruction. Furthermore, the influence of family economic capital on the creativity of learners cannot be ignored.
