Abstract
The present study examined the comprehensive effects of incorporating pomelo pericarp essential oil (PEO) at varying concentrations (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0%) into gelatin-arrowroot tuber flour (GEL-ATF) based edible films and evaluated the influence on various structural properties. ATF was prepared from Maranta arundinacea L. tubers using a carefully controlled method to ensure its quality and suitability as a polysaccharide base in film formulations. The results indicated that adding PEO to the GEL-ATF films decreased L, a, and b color values and increased opacity values, especially at higher PEO concentrations. Furthermore, the appearance of both GEL-ATF and GEL-ATF-PEO films exhibited similar characteristics. Incorporating PEO significantly reduced moisture content and water vapor permeability (WVP), indicating enhanced barrier properties against moisture. Additionally, an increase in PEO concentration resulted in decreased film solubility. A decrease in tensile strength (TS) but an increase in elongation at break (EAB) was observed in the GEL-ATF films with higher PEO concentrations (>1% PEO). Slight variations in thermal degradation patterns with increased PEO addition in GEL-ATF were noticed, while X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results of the tested films provided insights into structural and chemical modifications, indicating changes in crystallinity and molecular interactions upon increased PEO concentration in the film compositions. The microstructural observations confirmed that PEO incorporation led to smoother film surfaces, suggesting a more uniform matrix, which could enhance the film's barrier and mechanical properties. Furthermore, applying PEO into GLE-ATF films exhibited strong antimicrobial activity against Bacillus cereus ATCC 11778. Overall, the present study found that the higher PEO (>1%) concentrations significantly influenced the physical and mechanical properties of GEL-ATF-based edible films. This newly developed edible film could be an effective alternative to inedible polymers for sustainable food packaging solutions.

Abstract
This study reviews the importance of resistant starch (RS) as the polymer of choice for biodegradable food packaging and highlights the RS types and modification methods for developing RS from native starch (NS). NS is used in packaging because of its vast availability, low cost and film forming capacity. However, application of starch is restricted due to its high moisture sensitivity and hydrophilic nature. The modification of NS into RS improves the film forming characteristics and extends the applications of starch into the formulation of packaging. The starch is blended with other bio-based polymers such as guar, konjac glucomannan, carrageenan, chitosan, xanthan gum and gelatin as well as active ingredients such as nanoparticles (NPs), plant extracts and essential oils to develop hybrid biodegradable packaging with reduced water vapor permeability (WVP), low gas transmission, enhanced antimicrobial activity and mechanical properties. Hybrid RS based active packaging is well known for its better film forming properties, crystalline structures, enhanced tensile strength, water resistance and thermal properties. This review concludes that RS, due to its better film forming ability and stability, can be utilized as polymer of choice in the formulation of biodegradable packaging.

Abstract
Carboxymethyl starch (CST) was introduced to improve gelatin films and its practical application as edible high-performance films for food packaging and cooking was also investigated. The gelatin films modified by carboxymethyl starch exhibited the transparent appearance, tensile strength, barrier properties (oxygen, water vapor and UV light), and thermal performance (TGA, thermal shrinkage and heat-sealing strength). Resulting from the effect of electrostatic interaction modes on the properties of films, electrostatic repulsion could surpass electrostatic attraction in improving the tensile strength, oxygen barrier property and thermal stability of the films probably due to extensive physical entanglement without aggregation. Analysis of FTIR, zeta potential, interfacial dilatational rheology, shear rheological properties, XRD, Raman, SEM and AFM suggested that hydrogen bonding and electrostatic repulsion contributed to the excellent performance. The packaged food could also be cooked with the prepared film for porridge; and the film slightly influenced the shear rheological properties of porridge and imposed little effect on the odors (Electronic-Nose) of porridge. Hence, the gelatin films modified by carboxymethyl starch could potentially work as the edible inner packaging or the edible quantitative packaging for food, offer convenience for consumers, reduce the packaging waste and avoid an extra burden on environment.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to develop novel micro-nanofibers for food packaging using grapevine extract (GLP) and gelatine using electroblowing technique. The identified components of GLP were dominated by the flavone group phenolics, as analyzed by LC-MS/MS. SBS was used to fabricate gelatine micro-nanofiber mats loaded with three different concentrations of GLP, which were subsequently cross-linked. The micro-nanofibers were characterized by their morphology, chemistry, thermal properties, and bioactivity. The in-vitro antioxidant and antimicrobial effects of the nanofiber mats were determined using various methods, which showed an increase in effectiveness with increasing GLP concentration. The in-situ assessment, where the nanofibers were applied to cheese, also showed a consistent improvement in shelf life with the use of GLP-loaded gelatin electroblown fibers.

Abstract
The non-degradable traditional polyethylene (PE) mulch film has caused great harm to both the ecological environment as well as human health. Therefore, the biodegradable bone gelatin (B-Gel) was innovatively selected to build the mulch film. To further enhance the toughness of the B-Gel mulch films, a POSS star-shaped polymer/bone gelatin (P(POSS-AGE-HEA)/B-Gel) composite was prepared by introducing POSS star-shaped polymer into B-Gel via in situ polymerization using polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS), allyl glycidyl ether (AGE) and hydroxyethyl acrylate (HEA) as raw material, and then was cast to obtain the P(POSS-AGE-HEA)/B-Gel mulch film. The epoxy group of POSS star-shaped polymer with the -COOH and -NH2 of B-Gel forms a covalent bond, and the hydroxyl group with the active groups of B-Gel forms hydrogen bonds. Meanwhile, the multiple side chains of POSS star-shaped polymer are intertwined with B-Gel. These covalent and hydrogen bonds as sacrificial bonds for effective energy dissipation giving the bone gelatin-based film excellent mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 7.56 ± 0.64 MPa and elongation at break of 197.49 ± 17.63 %. Additionally, it also demonstrated sound water vapor barrier, surface hydrophobicity, light transmittance and the effect of facilitating the growth and germination ratio (93.75 %) of wheat.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rice starch retrogradation is prone to occur during instant rice storage, which contributes to reduced viscosity, poor sensory characteristics, and shortened shelf life. The purpose of this study was to explore the anti-retrogradation effect of soybean soluble polysaccharides (SSPS) on instant rice and the possible interaction between SSPS and high-moisture starch products. RESULTS We studied the effects of SSPS on the retrogradation of instant rice, using hardness as an index. The optimal amount of SSPS was 0.2%. Hardness, enthalpy, relative crystallinity, and full width at half maximum values were lower in the SSPS-treated group than in the control group (no SSPS) during storage. The weight loss rate of instant rice had the following trend: SSPS-treated group (0 day) < control group (0 day) < SSPS-treated group (28 days) < control group (28 days). The lower the weight loss rate, the lower was the material loss. Scanning electron microscopy results showed that the gaps between starch granules were less obvious in the control group than in the SSPS-treated group during storage. The SSPS-treated group presented a starch network with uniform chambers. SSPS might compete with starch molecules for water absorption, thereby improving water retention and limiting starch retrogradation. CONCLUSION The results showed that adding SSPS to instant rice could effectively inhibit starch retrogradation, because the interaction of SSPS and amylopectin side chains inhibited the crosslinking of starch molecules through hydrogen bonds, which hindered the formation of ordered structures. It was helpful to understand the anti-retrogradation mechanism of SSPS during the storage of instant rice, and provided the basis for the industrial production of high-water-content starch foods. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Starch and gelatin are natural biopolymers that offer a variety of benefits and are available at relatively low costs. In addition to this, they are an appealing substitute for synthetic polymers for the manufacturing of packaging films. Such packaging films are not only biodegradable but are also edible. Moreover, they are environmentally friendly and remain extremely cost-effective. In lieu of this, films made from fish gelatin and cornstarch have been the subject of several experiments. The pristine gelatin films have poor performance against water diffusion but exhibit excellent flexibility. The goal of this study was to assess the performance of pristine gelatin films along with the addition of food plasticizers. For this purpose, solutions of gelatin/cornstarch were prepared and specified quantities of food colors/plasticizers were added to develop different shades. The films were produced by using a blade coating method and were characterized by means of their shaded colors, water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), compositional changes via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), hardness, bendability, transparency, wettability, surface roughness, and thermal stability. It was observed that the addition of several food colors enhanced the moisture blocking effect, as a 10% reduction in WVTR was observed in the shaded films as compared to pristine films. The yellow-shaded films exhibited the lowest WVTR, i.e., around 73 g/m2·day when tested at 23 °C/65%RH. It was also observed that the films' WVTR, moisture content, and thickness were altered when different colors were added into them, although the chemical structure remained unchanged. The mechanical properties of the shaded films were improved by a factor of two after the addition of colored plasticizers. Optical examination and AFM demonstrated that the generated films had no fractures and were homogeneous, clear, and shiny. Finally, a biscuit was packaged in the developed films and was monitored via shore hardness. It was observed that the edible packed sample's hardness remained constant even after 5 days. This clearly suggested that the developed films have the potential to be used for packaging in various industries.

Abstract
Fire in energy storage systems, such as lithium-ion batteries, has been raised as a serious concern due to the difficulty of suppressing it. Fluorine-based non-flammable agents used as internal substances leaked through the fine pores of the polymer outer shell, leading to a degradation of fire extinguishing performance. To improve the durability of the fire suppression microcapsules and the stability of the ouster shell, a complex coacervation was used, which could be microencapsulated at a lower temperature, and the polymer shell was coated with urea-formaldehyde (UF) resin. The outermost UF resin formed elaborate bonds with the gelatin-based shell, and thus, the structure of the outer shell became denser, thereby improving the loss resistance of the inner substance and thermal stability. The double-layered microcapsules had an average particle diameter of about 309 μm, and a stable outer shell formed with a mass loss of 0.005% during long-term storage for 100 days. This study confirmed that the double-layered microcapsules significantly improved thermal stability, resistance to core material loss, core material content and fire suppression performance compared to single wall microcapsules. These results indicated that the double-layered structure was suitable for the production of microcapsules for initial fire suppression, including highly volatile non-flammable agents with a low boiling point.

Abstract
The formulation of new bionanocomposite (BNC) films using whey protein isolates (WPI, 3.3-11.7 %)-jujube polysaccharide (JPS, 1.59-18.41 %)/starch nanocrystals (SNCs, 0.32-3.68 %) blends was optimized. The ultrasound-assisted acid hydrolysis produced ~63.1 nm SNCs from native starch with -24.3 mV ζ-potential. The extracted JPS purification led to a single symmetrical peak for galactoarabinan-rich fraction (1.35 × 105 Da). The optimal levels of barrier (oxygen (11.85 cm3 m-2 d-1 atm-1) and water vapor (3.22 × 10-10 g m-1 s-1 Pa-1) permeability rate), optical (opacity index (2.7 AU μm-1), total color difference (18.69), and whiteness index (77.40)), and thermal (glass transition temperature (-8.29 °C) and melting point (110.38 °C)) properties were obtained at 5.0 % WPI, 15.0 % JPS, and 3.0 % SNCs. The film-forming solution of optimal BNCs had a significant antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The improved crystallinity of BNCs at an optimal SNC level was confirmed by the XRD. The AFM and SEM images confirmed a continuous and uniform network for the optimal BNCs without any pores or cracks accompanied by low surface roughness. The FTIR spectroscopy proved covalent interaction and hydrogen bonding among chemical functional groups of WPI and JPS reinforced with SNCs. The optimal BNC could preserve banana fruits with favorable physicochemical and microbial quality during storage.

Abstract
Moth bean starch (MS), gelatin (GA), and Murraya koenigii leaves extract (ME) are blended at different compositions to prepare film and coating according to casting and dipping approaches. Different MS, GA, and ME compositions were used to synthesize films and coating. The film compositions (MS : GA: ME: 60 : 20 : 20 and MS : GA: ME:20 : 60 : 20) were represented in terms of F3 and F4, respectively. The results showed that F3 exhibited better physicochemical properties than other films. In addition, SEM images showed that all components of the films were uniformly mixed and formed smooth surface morphology without cracks and bubbles. FTIR results indicate that ME in the films induces interactions between the film components, causing an improvement in compactness. Moreover, an optimized film-forming solution was tested as a coating. Parameters such as skin tightness, weight loss, pH, titratable acidity, and sensory analysis were considered to check the quality of coated Solanum melongena during storage. The results show that the formulation effectively maintains the quality parameters during storage. Furthermore, it also notices that coating extends the shelf life of Solanum melongena by one week.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hydrogel systems are increasingly gaining visibility involving biomedicine, tissue engineering, environmental treatments, and drug delivery systems. These systems have a three-dimensional network composition and high-water absorption capacity, are biocompatible, allowing them to become an option as photosensitizer carriers (PS) for applications in Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) protocols. METHODS A nanohydrogel system (NAHI), encapsulated with chloroaluminium phthalocyanine (ClAlPc) was synthesized for drug delivery.. NAHI was synthesized using gelatin as based polymer by the chemical cross-linking technique. The drug was encapsulated by immersing the hydrogel in a 1.0 mg.mL-1 ClAlPc solution. The external morphology of NAHI was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The degree of swelling of the synthesized system was evaluated to determine the water absorption potential. The produced nanohydrogel system was characterized by photochemical, photophysical and photobiologial studies. RESULTS The images from the SEM analysis showed the presence of three-dimensional networks in the formulation. The swelling test demonstrated that the nanohydrogel freeze-drying process increases its water holding capacity. All spectroscopic results showed excellent photophysical parameters of the drug studied when served in the NAHI system. The incorporation efficiency was 70%. The results of trypan blue exclusion test have shown significant reduction (p < 0.05) in the cell viability for all groups treated with PDT, in all concentrations tested. In HeLa cells, PDT mediated by 0,5 mg.mL-1 ClAlPc encapsulated in NAHI showed a decrease in survival close to 95%. In the internalization cell study was possible to observe the internalization of phthalocyanine after one hour of incubation, at 37 °C, with the the accumulation of PS in the cytoplasm and inside the nucleus at both concentrations tested. CONCLUSIONS Given the peculiar performance of the selected system, the resulting nanohydrogel is a versatile platform and display potential applications as controlled delivery systems of photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy application.

Abstract
Most of the food packaging materials used in the market are petroleum-based plastics; such materials are neither biodegradable nor environmentally friendly and require years to decompose. To overcome these problems, biodegradable and edible materials are encouraged to be used because such materials degrade quickly due to the actions of bacteria, fungi, and other environmental effects. In this work, commonly available household materials such as gelatin, soy protein, corn starch, and papaya were used to prepare cost-effective lab-scale biodegradable and edible packaging film as an effective alternative to commercial plastics to reduce waste generation. Prepared films were characterized in terms of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), optical transparency, and tensile strength. FTIR confirmed the addition of papaya and soy protein to the gelatin backbone. WVTR of the gelatin-papaya films was recorded to be less than 50 g/m2/day. This water vapor barrier was five times better than films of pristine gelatin. The gelatin, papaya, and soy protein films exhibited transparencies of around 70% in the visible region. The tensile strength of the film was 2.44 MPa, which improved by a factor of 1.5 for the films containing papaya and soy protein. The barrier qualities of the gelatin and gelatin-papaya films maintained the properties even after going through 2000 bending cycles. From the results, it is inferred that the prepared films are ideally suitable for food encapsulation and their production on a larger scale can considerably cut down the plastic wastage.

Abstract
Migration of additives is an important issue for proper application in food packaging. In this work, propionylated waxy and normal starch-based nanocomposites (PW-N and PN-N) with two different amylopectin content were immersed in distilled water, and structural changes and migration mechanism of plasticizer (triacetin) were discussed in detail. Results showed that when immersion time was prolonged to 150 h, small crystals of PN-N disappeared, and amorphous structures formed gradually in PW-N and PN-N. Exfoliated structures still remained in PW-N with prolonged immersion time, while exfoliated structures gradually formed from intercalated ones in PN-N, and the peak representing d001 (d-spacing) at q = 1.70 nm-1 faded. The migration mechanism of triacetin obeyed the first-order kinetic model and Fick's law; furthermore, in comparison with PW-N, PN-N showed a larger diffusion coefficient (D2 = 12.13 μm2·h-1). These results contributed to expanding the application of starch-based nanocomposites in future environmentally friendly food packaging.

Abstract
Five different sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) cultivars (Daeyumi, Gogeonmi, Sincheonmi [SCM], Singeonmi, and Sinyulmi [SYM]) were used to extract sweet potato starch (SPS) for developing starch-based films. After the chemical composition and amylose contents of all SPSs were evaluated, the morphological, moisture, mechanical, and barrier properties of the SPS-based films were investigated. As one of the film characteristics, the X-ray diffractograms revealed that the SCM-based film with the highest amylose content (26.34%) had the highest relative crystallinity (24.31%). The SCM-based film also showed higher tensile strength (3.05-fold) and elastic modulus (2.38-fold) than the SYM-based film with the lowest amylose content (21.84%). The water vapor and oxygen permeabilities of the SPS-based films were negatively correlated with the amylose content. Thus, the SCM-based film was less permeable for water vapor (3.16-fold) and oxygen (1.81-fold) than the SYM-based film. These results demonstrated that the sweet potato cultivar, especially the amylose content, plays a significant role in determining the physicochemical properties of the SPS-based films.

Abstract
Composite films comprising modified corn starch and gelatin were developed using a solvent casting technique. The effect of varied content of citric acid and gelatin on the functional properties of the corn starch and composite films, respectively, was investigated. Modified corn starch films enriched with 5% citric acid presented excellent film properties like solubility, swelling index, water vapor permeability, and mechanical property as compared to other films. Similarly, composite films enriched with a ratio (4:1) also exhibited excellent film properties like mechanical and opacity than other composite films. FTIR results confirmed the cross linking among the modified corn starch chains, which is responsible for the enhancement in the film properties. From SEM results, it was noticed that the modified corn starch films exhibited slightly rougher, less shiny than the composite films. Efficacy of the composite solution as a coating formulation in terms of the quality and shelf life of the cucumber investigated. From the results, it was noted that the composite film forming solution as a coating formulation has the potential to extend the shelf-life of the cucumbers additionally up to 16 days.

Abstract
Gelatin-based films enriched with snail slime are proposed as novel biodegradable and naturally bioadhesive patches for cutaneous drug delivery. Films (thickness range 163-248 μm) were stretchable and they adhered firmly onto the wetted skin, especially those with high amount (70% V/V) of snail slime extract. Fluconazole was selected as model drug and added to films containing the highest amount of snail slime. The presence of Fluconazole (4.53 ± 0.07% w/w) did not modify significantly the mechanical properties, the swelling degree and the bioadhesive performances of the films. Structural investigations demonstrated that the crystalline form III of the drug changed to the amorphous one, forming an amorphous solid dispersion. Moreover, snail slime prevented the drug recrystallization over time. In vitro permeation studies showed that film exhibited a cumulative drug concentration (over 60% in 24 h) similar to that of the control solution containing 20% w/V of ethanol. Fluconazole-loaded gelatin films proved to be effective towards clinical isolates of Candida spp. indicating that the drug maintained its remarkable antifungal activity once formulated into gelatin and snail slime-based films. In conclusion, snail slime, thanks to its peculiar composition, has proved to be responsible of optimal skin adhesion, film flexibility and of the formation of a supersaturating drug delivery system able to increase skin permeation.

Abstract
In recent decades, environmental concerns and increasing consumer demand for healthy and nutritious food products with prolonged shelf life have made the food packaging industry pay more attention to the preparation of multifunctional biodegradable packaging films based on biopolymers containing active components such as antioxidant and antimicrobial agents. In this study, bio-nanocomposite films were fabricated from gelatin (G) and cellulose nanofibers (CNFs), and different concentrations of zinc oxide (ZnO) and/or Selenium (Se) nanoparticles (NPs) by the casting method. The mechanical, barrier, optical, and structural (FTIR, XRD, and SEM) properties of the films were investigated along with their antibacterial and antioxidant features. The incorporation of ZnO and Se NPs improved the physicomechanical and water resistance of G/CNF films. In this regard, the maximum tensile strength value was obtained for the G/CNF containing 5% w/w ZnO NPs (G/CNF/ZnO3) and G/CNF containing 0.1% w/w Se NPs (G/CNF/Se2) films (~2.20-fold and ~2.13-fold higher than the G/CNF film, respectively). Also, G/CNF with 3% w/w ZnO NPs (G/CNF/ZnO2) film had the lowest water vapor permeability and water solubility among all films. Results of the disc diffusion assay showed a stronger antibacterial effect of ZnO NPs compared with Se NPs. The bacterial susceptibility to the antibacterial films was as follows: Listeria monocytogenes > Escherichia coli > Staphylococcus aureus > Pseudomonas fluorescens. The G/CNF films incorporated with Se nanoparticles possessed the higher property of scavenging free radicals in comparison films containing ZnO nanoparticles. Also, the combination of Se NPs and ZnO NPs enhanced the antioxidant effect of the films. In conclusion, gelatin-based edible films containing CNFs, ZnO NPs, and Se NPs can be used in the development of active food packaging products.

Abstract
Corn (Zea mays L.) is one of the major food crops, and it is considered to be a very distinctive plant, since it is able to produce a large amount of the natural polymer of starch through its capacity to utilize large amounts of sunlight. Corn starch is used in a wide range of products and applications. In recent years, the use of nanotechnology for applications in the food industry has become more apparent; it has been used for protecting against biological and chemical deterioration, increasing bioavailability, and enhancing physical properties, among other functions. However, the high cost of nanotechnology can make it difficult for its application on a commercial scale. As a biodegradable natural polymer, corn starch is a great alternative for the production of nanomaterials. Therefore, the search for alternative materials to be used in nanotechnology has been studied. This review has discussed in detail the properties, simulations, and wide range of applications of corn starch-based nanomaterials.

Abstract
The gelatin film has great potential in biomedical applications, especially in wound healing. The combination of gelatin films and stem cells could further accelerate the skin regeneration. Although polysaccharide modification can improve the mechanical property and biological activity of gelatin films, information about the stability and cellular affinity is still limited. This study investigated the influence of polysaccharides on the stability and cellular affinity of gelatin films. Two kinds of gelatin-polysaccharide composite films, including gelatin-hyaluronic acid (G-HA) and gelatin-chitosan (G-CS), were prepared in this study. It was found that G-HA composite film had better short-term and long-term stability compared with G-CS composite film. And G-HA composite film also had better biological safety than G-CS film. Moreover, the surface of G-HA composite film supported the adhesion and growth of human umbilical cord Wharton's jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells (WJ MSCs) better than G-CS film surface. These data illustrated that G-HA composite film has better stability and cellular affinity compared with G-CS film, which could be considered a promising delivery system of stem cells for further in vivo studies. Therefore, this work would be very helpful to optimize the preparation of gelatin-polysaccharide composite films.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The technological advances in agriculture, driven by the increased demand for food attributed to population growth, have led to the search for technologies that allow greater control over the variables that interfere in crop yield. Several techniques stand out for optimizing yield capacity, including cultivation in a protected environment, mulching and low tunneling. To expand the use of these techniques, synthetic petroleum-based polymers are employed due to their low cost, easy processing, and lightness. However, they take a long time to degrade, and, since they are discarded at the end of each cycle of cultivation, end up accumulating in the environment causing irreversible damage. RESULTS The use of biodegradable films, made of starch and/or a protein source such as gelatin, has been studied as a promising alternative. Both stand out because of their film-forming ability, and because they come from abundant sources and are biodegradable. CONCLUSION This study aimed to review the current findings on starch and gelatin films that can be used as alternatives to conventional plastics in agricultural crops. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In this paper, a novel modified microcrystalline corn straw cellulose (MMCSC) was prepared by ultrasonic/microwave-assisted treatment. Effective incorporation of MMCSC into corn distarch phosphate (CDP)-based composite films was investigated. RESULTS As the proportion of MMCSC was increased, tensile strength increased initially before decreasing, and the elongation at break always decreased. The composite film of MMCSC20 showed the lowest water vapor permeability (2.917 × 10-7 g m-1 h-1 Pa-1 ). The measurement of surface color showed that by the increasing of the MMCSC proportion in composite films, the L* and b* values and the total color difference (ΔE* ) increased, while a* values decreased. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that, with the incorporation of MMCSC, the stable structure of the films was enhanced through cross-linking and the crystallinity was increased. A scanning electron microscopy study revealed the surface microstructure of films (MMCSC0-MMCSC30) was smooth and homogeneous, and there was no distinct separation in the matrix of composite films. CONCLUSION The incorporation of suitable MMCSC could improve the properties of composite films. The CDP-MMCSC films, which are completely biodegradable and environmental friendly, have a high potential to be used for food packaging. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry.
