Abstract
Volatile halogenated hydrocarbons (VHHs) are annually produced and released into the environment, posing a threat to public health. In this study, a simple, rapid, sensitive and automated method based on headspace and gas chromatography (GC) with electron-capture detection was described for the determination of VHHs in different concentration levels in water samples. The proposed headspace GC method was initially optimized, and the optimum experimental conditions found were 10-mL water sample containing 20% w/v sodium chloride placed in a 20-mL vial and stirred at 60°C for 35 min, and then 14 VHHs were well separated on DB-35 MS capillary column with a split ratio of 12.5: 1. The limits of detection were in the low μg/L level, ranging between 0.01 and 0.6 μg/L. Finally optimized method was applied for determination 14 VHHs in drinking and environmental waters. The total mean concentrations of VHHs were 34.962, 26.183, 3.228 and 647.344 μg/L in tap water, purified water with 1-year-old filter element, seawater and effluents, respectively. However, no VHHs was detected in purified water with a new filter element. The main composition is different among different water matrix, which may be attributed to their different sources.

Abstract
A quint-wavelength UV spectroscopy for rapid determination of dichlorobenzene (DCB), chlorobenzene (CB) and benzene (B) was developed for the dechlorination process of DCB reduced by nanoscale zero-valent Fe/Ni bimetal. Based on the absorbance measurements at 260, 269, 277, 290 and 300nm, the equations for calculating the concentration of DCB and CB and B were established, in which the spectral interference from the nanoparticles could be effectively minimized. The results show that the present method has a good measurement precision (the relative standard deviations are within 2.0%) and accuracy (the recoveries are between 89 and 111%) in the DCB, CB and B's quantification. The present method is simple, rapid, and such a methodology is very suitable to be used for evaluating the dechlorination performance of chlorinated aromatic compounds in the presence of bimetal nanoparticle.

Abstract
A metal-organic framework/periodic mesoporous silica (MOF-5@SBA-15) hybrid material has been prepared by using SBA-15 as a matrix. The prepared MOF-5@SBA-15 hybrid material was then deposited on a stainless-steel wire to obtain the fiber for the solid-phase microextraction of phenolic compounds. Modifications in the metal-organic framework structure have proven to improve the extraction performance of MOF/SBA-15 hybrid materials, compared to pure MOF-5 and SBA-15. Optimum conditions include an extraction temperature of 75°C, a desorption temperature of 260°C, and a salt concentration of 20% w/v. The dynamic linear range and limit of detection range from 0.1-500 and from 0.01-3.12 ng/mL, respectively. The repeatability for one fiber (n = 3), expressed as relative standard deviation, is between 4.3 and 9.6%. The method offers the advantage of being simple to use, rapid, and low cost, the thermal stability of the fiber, and high relative recovery (compared to conventional methods) represent additional attractive features.

Abstract
The present research focuses on the evaluation of different ionic liquid (IL) stationary phases in gas chromatography. The different IL columns were evaluated in terms of peak resolution (Rs) and peak symmetry for the separation of the chlorobenzenes. The determination of chlorobenzenes in soil samples by means of the optimal IL stationary phase (SLB-IL82) is proposed as an application. Soil pretreatment was based on a simplified quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe extraction procedure and a large injection volume via a programed temperature vaporizer working in solvent vent mode. The retention time of the chlorobenzenes increased as the polarity of the IL column decreased. SLB-IL82 is the stationary phase that provides the best values as regards Rs and asymmetry factor. Soil sample blanks were spiked with the analytes before subjecting the sample to the extraction process. The existence of a matrix effect was checked and the analytical characteristics of the method were determined in a fortified garden soil sample. The method provided good linearity, good repeatability and reproducibility values, and the LODs were in the 0.1-4.7 μg/kg range. Two fortified soil samples were applied to validate the proposed methodology.
