Abstract
To produce antioxidant substances from agricultural waste Camellia spp. fruit shells before their further utilization, gallic acid from five kinds of Camellia spp. fruit shells was separated on specific recognition by deep eutectic solvent molecularly imprinted polymers (DES@MIPs), which were prepared by bulk polymerization using gallic acid as the template and deep eutectic solvents (α-methylacrylic acid and choline chloride) as functional monomers. The optimized DES@MIPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, particle size analysis, nitrogen sorption porosimetry, elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermal gravimetric analysis. The adsorptive behavior of gallic acid on DES@MIPs was also investigated. The results indicated that DES@MIPs were successfully prepared as mesoporous materials with average pore diameter of 9.65 nm and total pore volume of 0.315 cm3 g−1, and the adsorption behavior was multilayer adsorption and pseudo-second-order kinetics with the saturation adsorptive capacity of gallic acid reaching 0.7110 mmol g−1. Although the content of gallic acid in five fruit shells was quite different, the purification recovery of gallic acid was high, ranging from 87.85–96.75% with a purity over 80%. Thus, the purification of gallic acid from Camellia spp. fruit shells could be realized feasibly using DES@MIPs with favorable economic and environmental benefits.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In the present study, ternary deep eutectic solvent-based ultrasound-assisted extraction was developed for the efficient extraction of plantamajoside, acteoside, quercetin and kaempferol from Plantago asiatica L. METHODOLOGY Six kinds of choline chloride-based ternary deep eutectic solvents (TDESs) were prepared as potential extraction solutions. In order to obtain optimal extraction efficiency, a series of extraction conditions were investigated by single-factor test and orthogonal test. RESULTS The extraction efficiency of choline chloride/lactic acid/ethylene glycol (ChCl-LA-EG) was much higher than that of other TDESs. ChCl-LA-EG-11 synthesised with choline chloride, lactic acid and ethylene glycol (1:4:2) was considered to have a higher extraction efficiency. The optimal ultrasound-assisted extraction conditions were as follows: water content in ChCl-LA-EG-11, 50%; extraction temperature, 70°C; ratio of solid/liquid, 20 mg/mL; ultrasonic power, 60 W; extraction time, 35 min; pH of the solution, 8. Under the optimal extraction conditions, the extraction efficiencies of plantamajoside, acteoside, quercetin and kaempferol were 3.83 ± 0.41, 4.23 ± 0.45, 0.56 ± 0.15 and 0.19 ± 0.08 mg/g, respectively. The extraction efficiency of the total target components was 9.21 ± 0.63 mg/g, which was much higher than that of conventional solvents (water, methanol, ethanol, 50% methanol, 50% ethanol). The target components were isolated efficiently from the TDES solution by an AB-8 macroporous resin column with a recovery rate of 95.6%. CONCLUSION This study demonstrated that TDESs possessed excellent physical and chemical properties and had enormous potential for active component extraction of traditional Chinese medicinal materials.

Abstract
Phenols are widespread in nature, being the major components of several plants and essential oils. Natural phenols' anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, pharmacological and nutritional properties are, nowadays, well established. Hence, given their peculiar biological role, numerous studies are currently ongoing to overcome their limitations, as well as to enhance their activity. In this review, the functionalization of selected natural phenols is critically examined, mainly highlighting their improved bioactivity after the proper chemical transformations. In particular, functionalization of the most abundant naturally occurring monophenols, diphenols, lipidic phenols, phenolic acids, polyphenols and curcumin derivatives is explored.

Abstract
The molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with the following herbicides used as templates 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) or 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy- acetic acid (MCPA) were synthesized by precipitation polymerization technique using 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP) as a functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a cross-linking agent, and 2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator in methanol solvent. For the flavonoid MIPs, rutin (Ru) and quercetin (Q) were used as templates and synthesized via a similar technique, utilizing acrylamide (AA) as a functional monomer. Analysis of binding in the molecularly imprinted and non-imprinted polymer (NIP) has proved that MIP shows a higher affinity towards the analytes, compared to NIP. MIP was used to determine analytes in water using the Flowing Atmospheric-Pressure Afterglow Mass Spectrometry (FAPA-MS) technique. In this approach, the method limit of detection (MLOD) of 2,4-D, MCPA, Ru, and Q in MIP was 4, 3, 10, and 5 μg in 1 g MIP, respectively. The release kinetics of the analytes from MIP and their stability in water was studied. The cultures of Tetradesmus obliquus (Turpin) M.J. Wynne and Daphnia magna Straus were used for in vivo toxicity studies revealing that only Ru-MIP and Q-MIP had negative effect on the living organisms used in the bioassays.

Abstract
The green and versatile character of deep eutectic solvents (DES) has turned them into significant tools in the development of green and sustainable technologies. For this purpose, their use in polymeric applications has been growing and expanding to new areas of development. The present review aims to summarize the progress in the field of DES applied to polymer science and engineering. It comprises fundamentals studies involving DES and polymers, recent applications of DES in polymer synthesis, extraction and modification, and the early developments on the formulation of DES–polymer products. The combination of DES and polymers is highly promising in the development of new and ‘greener’ materials. Still, there is plenty of room for future research in this field.

Abstract
A novel ternary hydrosulphonyl-based deep eutectic solvent (THS-DES) comprised of choline chloride/itaconic acid/3-mercaptopropionic acid (molar ratio 2:1:1) was firstly synthesized. The composition, property and microscopic structure of the new magnetic adsorbent (THS-DES@M-GO) based on the THS-DES modified the magnetic graphene oxide (M-GO) was characterized by the system. Magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) based THS-DES@M-GO was firstly researched for the removal of mercury (Hg2+) from water. Various influencing factors such as the mass of adsorbent, solution pH, initial Hg2+ concentration, the removal time and temperature had been systematically tested. Under optimized conditions the removal efficiency (R%) could achieved 99.91%. The precision, repeatability and stability experiments were investigated in detail to evaluate the presented method. The relative standard deviations (RSD) of the removal efficiency were 0.053%, 1.49% and 1.55%, respectively. The maximum adsorption capacity (Qmax) was 215.1 mg g-1 and the data of the experiment fitted well with Langmuir model. Elution experimental studies shown that 94.94% of Hg2+ could be eluted by ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). After seven cycles of adsorption-desorption processes, the THS-DES@M-GO still retained a high removal efficiency of 90.23%. Compared with other adsorbents prepared in this work, THS-DES@M-GO displayed higher removal efficiency for Hg2+. Interference study proved the composites was tolerated and stabled under the complex matrix. What's more, the analysis of mercury contaminated water (from Guizhou, P.R., China) proved that the proposed method could be used to remove Hg2+ in practical application.
