Abstract
A glomus tumor (GT) is a rare and usually benign tumor that originates from the glomus body, which is involved in thermoregulation in the skin. Solitary or multiple, digital or extra-digital, these cutaneous tumors can be benign or malignant. This report describes the diagnosis and surgical management of a solitary glomus tumor at the base of the right thumb in a young Sudanese woman. The diagnosis of glomus tumor was confirmed by medical history, sonographic findings and histopathological report. The lesion was excised via direct complete excision under local anesthesia, resulting in a complete resolution of symptoms. Owing to its high sensitivity level, the use of ultrasound is appropriate to evaluate a lesion suspected to be a glomus tumor. A clinician needs to take into consideration the likelihood of glomus tumors when assessing a patient who has a skin lesion on fingers, toes, or extra-digital area, with pain triggered by temperature changes, pressure, or touch. Additionally, this report includes a review of recent globally reported cases of glomus tumor in the hand to highlight the distinctiveness of this report in context to its atypical location in the area of the thenar eminence and underscoring it as a unique report of its kind from Saudi Arabia.

Abstract
Chronic pain resulting from peripheral nerve injury remains a common issue in the United States and affects 7 to 10% of the population. Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface (RPNI) surgery is an innovative surgical procedure designed to treat posttraumatic neuropathic pain, particularly when a symptomatic neuroma is present on clinical exam. RPNI surgery involves implantation of a transected peripheral nerve into an autologous free muscle graft to provide denervated targets to regenerating axons. RPNI surgery has been found in animal and human studies to be highly effective in addressing postamputation pain. While most studies have reported its uses in the amputation patient population for the treatment of neuroma and phantom limb pain, RPNI surgery has recently been used to address refractory headache, postmastectomy pain, and painful donor sites from the harvest of neurotized flaps. This review summarizes the current understanding of RPNI surgery for the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neuromas substantially decrease a patient's quality of life and obstruct the use of prosthetics. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to determine the global incidence of neuroma formation in upper extremity amputees. METHODS A literature search was performed using 3 databases: Web of Science, MEDLINE, and Cochrane. Inclusion criteria for the systematic review were those studies investigating only upper extremity amputees and reported postamputation neuroma. A random-effects, inverse-variance analysis was conducted to determine the pooled proportion of neuromas within the upper extremity amputation population. Critical appraisal using the JBI Checklist for Studies Reporting Prevalence Data of each individual article were performed for the systematic review. RESULTS Eleven studies met the inclusion criteria collating a total of 1931 patients across 8 countries. More than three-fourth of patients are young men (77%; age range, 19-54 years) and had an amputation due to trauma. The random-effects analysis found the pooled combined proportion of neuromas to be 13% (95% confidence interval, 8%-18%). The treatment of neuroma is highly variable, with some patients receiving no treatment. CONCLUSIONS The pooled proportion of neuroma incidence in the 1931 patients was 13%. With the known global prevalence of upper extremity amputees, this translates to nearly 3 million amputees suffering from a neuroma globally. Increasing training in preventative surgical methods could contribute to lowering this incidence and improving the outcomes of this patient population.

Abstract
Peripheral nerve sheath tumors are a heterogeneous subgroup of soft tissue tumors that either arise from a peripheral nerve or show nerve sheath differentiation. On imaging, direct continuity with a neural structure or location along a typical nerve distribution represents the most important signs to suggest the diagnosis. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging are the best modalities to evaluate these lesions. First, it is necessary to differentiate between a true tumor and a non-neoplastic nerve condition such as a neuroma, peripheral nerve ganglion, intraneural venous malformation, lipomatosis of nerve, or nerve focal hypertrophy. Then, with a combination of clinical features, conventional and advanced imaging appearances, it is usually possible to characterize neurogenic tumors confidently. This article reviews the features of benign and malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, including the rare and recently described tumor types. Furthermore, other malignant neoplasms of peripheral nerves as well as non-neoplastic conditions than can mimick neurogenic tumor are herein discussed.

This pictorial review focuses on the ultrasound (US) appearance of the normal and pathological radial nerve (RN) and its branches and provides tips with which to locate them and avoid misinterpretation of normal findings. A wide range of our pathological cases are reviewed and presented to help in familiarizing the reader with common and uncommon clinical scenarios that affect the RN and its main branches.

Abstract
Persistent pain following treatment for breast cancer is common and often imprecisely labeled as post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS). PMPS is a disorder with multiple potential underlying causes including intercostobrachial nerve injury, intercostal neuromas, phantom breast pain, and pectoralis minor syndrome. Adding further complexity to the issue are various musculoskeletal pain syndromes including cervical radiculopathy, shoulder impingement syndrome, frozen shoulder, and myofascial pain that may occur concurrently and at times overlap with PMPS. These overlapping pain syndromes may be difficult to separate from one another, but precise diagnosis is essential, as treatment for each pain generator may be distinct. The purpose of this review is to clearly outline different pain sources based on anatomic location that commonly occur following treatment for breast cancer, and to provide tailored and evidence-based recommendations for the evaluation and treatment of each disorder.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the epidemiology of neuroma formation as a complication following radiofrequency ablation for chronic pain conditions as well as reviewing the diagnosis and management of neuromas. DESIGN Evidence-based narrative review and critical appraisal of literature. RESULTS A comprehensive review of the literature generated one case report describing neuroma formation following lumbar facet medial branch radiofrequency denervation. The rare incidence may be explained by neuroma pathophysiology and peripheral nerve injury produced by radiofrequency ablation, in combination with its asymptomatic nature. Diagnosis of neuromas is predominantly confirmed by clinical history and physical exam with potential for nerve blocks or imaging. Ultrasound has been suggested as a primary imaging modality with magnetic resonance imaging as a secondary option. Neuroma management ranges from conservative therapy to surgery with varying success rates. CONCLUSIONS Neuroma formation following radiofrequency ablation procedures is exceedingly rare and could be a hypothetical concern in clinical practice. However, the true incidence may be inaccurate given the asymptomatic nature of neuromas.

Abstract
Ultrasound is considered an excellent imaging modality to evaluate the nerves of the limbs. The deep peroneal nerve (DPN) is one of the terminal branches of the common peroneal nerve. The DPN may be affected by various disorders, which may be clinically challenging to show. This Pictorial Essay reviews the normal ultrasound anatomy of the DPN and presents disorders that may involve the nerve and its main branches along its course, from proximal to distal.

Abstract
Background For more than seven decades, ultrasound has been used as an imaging and diagnostic tool. Today, new technologies, such as focused ultrasound (FUS) neuromodulation, have revealed some innovative, potential applications. However, those applications have been barely studied to deal with neuropathic pain (NP), a cluster of chronic pain syndromes with a restricted response to conventional pharmaceuticals. Objective To analyze the therapeutic potential of low-intensity (LIFUS) and high-intensity (HIFUS) FUS for managing NP. Methods We performed a narrative review, including clinical and experimental ultrasound neuromodulation studies published in three main database repositories. Discussion Evidence shows that FUS may influence several mechanisms relevant for neuropathic pain management such as modulation of ion channels, glutamatergic neurotransmission, cerebral blood flow, inflammation and neurotoxicity, neuronal morphology and survival, nerve regeneration, and remyelination. Some experimental models have shown that LIFUS may reduce allodynia after peripheral nerve damage. At the same time, a few clinical studies support its beneficial effect on reducing pain in nerve compression syndromes. In turn, Thalamic HIFUS ablation can reduce NP from several etiologies with minor side-effects, but some neurological sequelae might be permanent. HIFUS is also useful in lowering non-neuropathic pain in several disorders. Conclusion Although an emerging set of studies brings new evidence on the therapeutic potential of both LIFUS and HIFUS for managing NP with minor side-effects, we need more controlled clinical trials to conclude about its safety and efficacy.
