Abstract
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is well known as a serious health problem worldwide, especially in low-income countries or those with limited resources, such as most countries in Latin America. International guidelines cannot always be applied to a population from a large region with specific conditions. This study established a Latin American guideline for care of patients with head and neck cancer and presented evidence of HNSCC management considering availability and oncologic benefit. A panel composed of 41 head and neck cancer experts systematically worked according to a modified Delphi process on (1) document compilation of evidence-based answers to different questions contextualized by resource availability and oncologic benefit regarding Latin America (region of limited resources and/or without access to all necessary health care system infrastructure), (2) revision of the answers and the classification of levels of evidence and degrees of recommendations of all recommendations, (3) validation of the consensus through two rounds of online surveys, and (4) manuscript composition. The consensus consists of 12 sections: Head and neck cancer staging, Histopathologic evaluation of head and neck cancer, Head and neck surgery-oral cavity, Clinical oncology-oral cavity, Head and neck surgery-oropharynx, Clinical oncology-oropharynx, Head and neck surgery-larynx, Head and neck surgery-larynx/hypopharynx, Clinical oncology-larynx/hypopharynx, Clinical oncology-recurrent and metastatic head and neck cancer, Head and neck surgery-reconstruction and rehabilitation, and Radiation therapy. The present consensus established 48 recommendations on HNSCC patient care considering the availability of resources and focusing on oncologic benefit. These recommendations could also be used to formulate strategies in other regions like Latin America countries.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Laryngeal chondrosarcoma (LCS) is a rare tumor of slow evolution whose treatment is poorly codified. For a long time, a radical treatment by total laryngectomy (TL) was proposed. More recent studies tend to propose a conservative surgical approach of the larynx. The objective of this study was to compare the overall survival (OS) of total laryngectomized patients (TL+) versus non-laryngectomized patients (TL-). The secondary objectives were to analyse the reoperation free survival (RFS), the total laryngectomy free survival (TLFS) and to identify the preoperative factors leading surgeons to propose TL. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis of prospectively collected incident cases from the REFCOR and NetSarc-ResOs multicenter databases between March 1997 and June 2021 was conducted. A propensity score matching analysis was performed to compare the OS of TL+ and TL-patients. RESULTS 74 patients were included. After propensity score, the 5-year OS of TL+ and TL-patients was comparable (100 %, p = 1). The 5-year RFS rate was 69.2 % (95 % CI [57.5-83.4]) and the 5-year TLFS was 61.7 % (95 % CI [50.4-75.5]). Cricoid involvement greater than 50 % (HR 3.58; IC 95 % [1.61-7.92] p < 0.001), an ASA score of 3 or 4 (HR 5.07; IC 95 % [1.64-15.67] p = 0.009) and involvement of several cartilages (HR 5.26; IC 95 % [1.17-23.6] p = 0.04) are prognostic factors for TL. Dyspnea caused by the tumour is a prognostic factor for reoperation (HR 2.59; IC 95 % [1.04-6.45] p = 0.03). CONCLUSION These results demonstrate that conservative treatment should be considered as first-line treatment for laryngeal chondrosarcoma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The management of cT3 laryngeal cancers remains controversial, with studies recommending surgical or non-surgical approaches. Despite the many papers that have been published on the subject, there is a lack of studies showing which treatment has better results in terms of survival. OBJECTIVE To determine the difference in survival outcomes following total laryngectomy (TL), concurrent chemoradiation (CRT) or radiation therapy (RT) alone in T3 laryngeal cancers. METHODS Search of PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar databases from 1995 to 2023 employing specific keywords and Boolean operators to retrieve relevant articles. Statistical analysis was conducted using a random-effects model, and heterogeneity was evaluated using the Q-test and I2 statistic. Funnel plot asymmetry was assessed using rank correlation and regression tests. RESULTS The qualitative data synthesis comprised 10,940 patients from 16 included studies. TL was performed in 2149 (19.4%), CRT in 6723 (61.5%), RT in 295 (2.7%), while non-surgical treatment was not specified in 1773 (16.2%) patients. The pooled 2-year overall survival (OS) rates were TL = 73%, CRT = 74.7%, RT = 57.9%, 3-year OS rates were TL = 64.3%, CRT = 62.9%, RT = 52.4%, and 5-year OS rates were TL = 54.2%, CRT = 52.7%, RT = 40.8%. There was a significant heterogeneity in the included studies. There was no statistically significant difference in 2-year OS (logOR= -0.88 (95% confidence interval (CI): -1.99 to 0.23), p = 0.12), 3-year OS (logOR = -0.6 (95% CI: -1.34 to 0.15), p = 0.11), and 5-year OS (logOR = -0.54 (95% CI: -1.29 to 0.21), p = 0.16) between TL and CRT. Instead, there was significant difference in 2-year OS (logOR= -1.2383 (95% CI: -2.1679 to -0.3087), p = 0.009), 3-year OS (-1.1262 (95% CI: -1.6166 to -0.6358), p < 0.001), and 5-year OS (-0.99 (95% CI: -1.44 to -0.53)), p < 0.001) between TL and RT alone. CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE TL followed with adjuvant (chemo)radiation on indication and CRT with salvage surgery in reserve appear to have similar OS outcomes. Both resulted in better OS outcomes compared to RT alone in the treatment of T3 laryngeal cancers. If patients are unfit for chemotherapy, making CRT impossible, surgery may become the choice of treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Larynx preservation is the current standard for locally advanced (LA) laryngeal/hypopharyngeal tumors, but not all patients respond as expected. TALK score model measures four variables (T-staging, albumin levels, liquor consumption and Karnofsky score) to determine which cases are best suited to preservation treatment scheme. We aimed to validate this prognostic model in a Southern European population. METHODS We retrospectively evaluated 175 patients diagnosed from July 2008 to December 2015 with LA laryngeal/hypopharyngeal carcinoma and treated with a laryngeal preservation scheme comprising induction chemotherapy followed by concomitant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. We applied the TALK score model to predict larynx preservation rate. RESULTS Of the 175 patients evaluated, 96.6% were men, 98.3% were smokers and 77.1% misused alcohol. Tumors were laryngeal 66.3% vs 33.7% in hypopharynx, and all were either stage III (37.7%) or stage IV (62.3%). TALK prognostic subgroups were: good risk 40.0%; intermediate risk 52.5%; and poor risk 7.5%. With a median follow-up of 40.1 months, larynx preservation rate, laryngectomy-free survival and overall survival at 3 years was 84.5%, 63.7% and 68.2%, respectively. Although TALK score was not predictive of 3-year larynx preservation rate (good risk 85.5%; intermediate risk 83.1%; poor risk 91.6%), it was predictive of 3-year overall survival (good risk 81.9%; intermediate risk 62.9%; poor risk 33.5%) and 3-year laryngectomy-free survival (good risk 75.6%; intermediate risk 59.6%; poor risk 30.7%). CONCLUSION TALK model could predict OS and laryngectomy-free survival, helping clinicians to decide which patients should avoid laryngeal preservation and undergo laryngectomy after diagnosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The previously described TALK score (T-stage, Albumin, Liquor, Karnofsky Performance Status) has been proposed as a method to predict laryngectomy-free survival (LFS) in patients undergoing definitive chemoradiation (CRT). This study assesses its use as well as a modification to include continued tobacco use. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective chart review. SETTING Academic institution from 2004 to 2020. METHODS Patients diagnosed with larynx or hypopharynx cancer undergoing CRT were reviewed. Clinically relevant variables were collected (TALK), which were dichotomized per previously set cutoffs. Concurrent tobacco use was evaluated and also dichotomized as 0 or 1. Multivariate analysis was conducted to determine which factors were most predictive of the key outcomes of survival and LFS. RESULTS A total of 2514 patient charts were evaluated. Patients treated for larynx cancer with primary CRT with complete data were included, ultimately totaling 300. Of these, 78 patients required salvage total laryngectomy (TL). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that LFS was best predicted by tobacco use during treatment (odds ratio [OR] 0.3465, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.1862-0.6300) and Karnofsky Performance Status (OR 0.1646, 95% CI 0.0673-0.3662). Tobacco use during treatment was also strongly predictive of survival. Excluding T4 tumors, the utilization of tobacco in place of T-stage improved the accuracy of the predictive model in this cohort. CONCLUSION Given that a T-stage of 4 is typically treated with total laryngectomy, modification of the TALK score to include tobacco use during treatment (tALK) for patients with T < 4 can be used to improve prediction of 3-year LFS and overall survival.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To develop and validate a clinical prediction model (CPM) for survival in hypopharynx cancer, thereby aiming to improve individualized estimations of survival. METHODS Retrospective cohort study of hypopharynx cancer patients. We randomly split the cohort into a derivation and validation dataset. The model was fitted on the derivation dataset and validated on the validation dataset. We used a Cox's proportional hazard model and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) selection. Performance (discrimination and calibration) of the CPM was tested. RESULTS The final model consisted of gender, subsite, TNM classification, Adult Comorbidity Evaluation-27 score (ACE27), body mass index (BMI), hemoglobin, albumin, and leukocyte count. Of these, TNM classification, ACE27, BMI, hemoglobin, and albumin had independent significant associations with survival. The C Statistic was 0.62 after validation. The model could significantly identify clinical risk groups. CONCLUSIONS ACE27, BMI, hemoglobin, and albumin are independent predictors of overall survival. The identification of high-risk patients can be used in the counseling process and tailoring of treatment strategy or follow-up. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE 4 Laryngoscope, 130:2166-2172, 2020.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES A high percentage of patients with locally advanced larynx carcinomas are candidates for inclusion in organ preservation protocols. The objective of this study is to compare the results of two schemes of preservation, induction chemotherapy versus chemoradiotherapy, in patients with locally advanced larynx carcinomas in the context of actual clinical practice. METHODS Our retrospective study included 157 patients with locally advanced tumours of the larynx (T3-T4) treated with induction chemotherapy (n = 121) or chemoradiotherapy (n = 36). RESULTS From 121 patients who began treatment with induction chemotherapy, 6 died due to toxicity, 37 were treated with surgery, and 78 completed the preservation scheme; 36 patients received treatment with chemoradiotherapy. There were no significant differences in 5-year disease-specific survival between both treatments: 68.9% in induction chemotherapy versus 75.7% in chemoradiotherapy (p = 0.259). In 45.9% of patients the laryngeal function was preserved. Patients treated with chemoradiotherapy had a tendency to have better 5-year laryngeal dysfunction-free survival than patients treated with induction chemotherapy (55.6% versus 44.8%, p = 0.079). CONCLUSION Patients included in a protocol of organ preservation achieved a 5-year laryngeal dysfunction-free survival of 45.9%. There were no significant differences in disease-specific survival among patients treated with induction chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy.

Abstract
For the treatment of early and locally advanced glottic laryngeal cancer, multiple strategies are available. These are pursued and supported by different levels of evidence, but also by national and institutional traditions. The purpose of this review article is to compare and discuss the current evidence supporting different loco-regional treatment approaches in early and locally advanced glottic laryngeal cancer. The focus is kept on randomized controlled trials, meta-analyses, and comparative retrospective studies including the treatment period within the last twenty years (≥ 1999) with at least one reported five-year oncologic and/or functional outcome measure. Based on the equipoise in oncologic and functional outcome after transoral laser surgery and radiotherapy, informed and shared decision-making with and not just about the patient poses a paramount importance for T1-2N0M0 glottic laryngeal cancer. For T3-4aN0-3M0 glottic laryngeal cancer, there is an equipoise regarding the partial/total laryngectomy and non-surgical modalities for T3 glottic laryngeal cancer. Patients with extensive and/or poorly functioning T4a laryngeal cancer should not be offered organ-preserving chemoradiotherapy with salvage surgery as a back-up plan, but total laryngectomy and adjuvant (chemo) radiation. The lack of high-level evidence comparing contemporary open or transoral robotic organ-preserving surgical and non-surgical modalities does not allow any concrete conclusions in terms of oncological and functional outcome. Unnecessary tri-modality treatments should be avoided. Instead of offering one-size-fits-all approaches and over-standardized rigid institutional strategies, patient-centered informed and shared decision-making should be favored.

Abstract
The optimal treatment for T3 laryngeal carcinoma (LC) is still a matter of debate. Different therapeutic options are available: Transoral laser microsurgery (TLM), open partial horizontal laryngectomies (OPHLs), total laryngectomy (TL), and organ preservation protocols (radiation therapy (RT) or chemo-radiation (CRT)). This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate oncologic outcomes of 104 T3 LCs treated by surgery or non-surgical approaches from January 2011 to December 2016 at a single academic tertiary referral center. Each case was evaluated by a multidisciplinary team (MDT) devoted to the management of head and neck cancers. We divided the cohort into two subgroups: Group A, surgical treatment (TLM, OPHLs, TL) and Group B, non-surgical treatment (RT, CRT). For the entire cohort, two- and five-year overall survival (OS) rates were 83% and 56%, respectively. The two- and five-year disease-free survival (DFS) rates were 75% and 65%, and disease-specific survival rates were 93% and 70%, respectively. The N category was a significant independent prognosticator for OS (p = 0.02), whereas Group B was significantly and independently associated with DFS (HR 4.10, p = 0.006). Analyzing laryngo-esophageal dysfunction-free survival as an outcome, it was found that this was significantly lower in higher N categories (p = 0.04) and in cases that underwent non-surgical treatments (p = 0.002). Optimization of oncologic outcomes in T3 LCs may be obtained only by a comprehensive MDT approach, considering that different treatment options have heterogenous toxicity profiles and indications.

Abstract
Summary Introduction: Since the beginning of the 1990s, non-surgical radiochemotherapy treatment has become popular with the prospect of maintaining oncological results and preserving the organ in patients with advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx and hypopharynx. However, subsequent studies demonstrated increased recurrence and mortality after the non-surgical treatment became popular. Objective: To compare the oncological results of surgical and non-surgical treatments of patients with larynx and hypopharynx cancer and to evaluate the variables associated with disease recurrence. Method: This is a retrospective cohort study of 134 patients undergoing surgical (total or partial laryngectomy) or non-surgical (isolated radiotherapy, chemotherapy or induction chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy) treatment, with 62 patients in the surgical group and 72 in the non-surgical group. Results: Disease-free survival rates were higher in the surgical group (81.7% vs. 62.2%; p=0.028), especially in III/IV stages (p=0.018), locally advanced tumors T3 and T4a (p=0.021) and N0/N1 cases (p=0.005). The presence of cervical lymph nodes, especially N2/N3, was considered a risk factor for disease recurrence in both groups (HR=11.82; 95CI 3.42-40.88; p<0.0001). Patients not undergoing surgical treatment were 3.8 times more likely to develop recurrence (HR=3.76; 95CI 1.27-11.14; p=0.039). Conclusion: Patients with larynx or hypopharynx cancer non-surgically treated had a poorer disease-free survival, especially in cases with locally advanced tumors (T3 and T4a) and in which the neck was only slightly affected (N0/N1).

Abstract
Purpose To update the guideline recommendations on the use of larynx-preservation strategies in the treatment of laryngeal cancer. Methods An Expert Panel updated the systematic review of the literature for the period from January 2005 to May 2017. Results The panel confirmed that the use of a larynx-preservation approach for appropriately selected patients does not compromise survival. No larynx-preservation approach offered a survival advantage compared with total laryngectomy and adjuvant therapy as indicated. Changes were supported for the use of endoscopic surgical resection in patients with limited disease (T1, T2) and for initial total laryngectomy in patients with T4a disease or with severe pretreatment laryngeal dysfunction. New recommendations for positron emission tomography imaging for the evaluation of regional nodes after treatment and best measures for evaluating voice and swallowing function were added. Recommendations Patients with T1, T2 laryngeal cancer should be treated initially with intent to preserve the larynx by using endoscopic resection or radiation therapy, with either leading to similar outcomes. For patients with locally advanced (T3, T4) disease, organ-preservation surgery, combined chemotherapy and radiation, or radiation alone offer the potential for larynx preservation without compromising overall survival. For selected patients with extensive T3 or large T4a lesions and/or poor pretreatment laryngeal function, better survival rates and quality of life may be achieved with total laryngectomy. Patients with clinically involved regional cervical nodes (N+) who have a complete clinical and radiologic imaging response after chemoradiation do not require elective neck dissection. All patients should undergo a pretreatment baseline assessment of voice and swallowing function and receive counseling with regard to the potential impact of treatment options on voice, swallowing, and quality of life. Abstract
Importance Use of chemoradiotherapy for advanced laryngeal cancer led to a major shift in treatment as an alternative to laryngectomy. Despite widespread adoption of chemoradiotherapy, survival rates have not improved and the original premise of matching neoadjuvant chemotherapy tumor response to determine subsequent treatment has not been followed. Objective To determine whether improved survival could be achieved by incorporating a single cycle of neoadjuvant chemotherapy to select patients with advanced disease for either laryngectomy or concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Design, Setting, and Participants An unselected cohort of 247 patients with laryngeal cancer in an academic institution between 2002 and 2012 was evaluated. Patients with limited disease (stages I and II) underwent endoscopic resection, radiotherapy, or chemoradiotherapy for deeply invasive T2 lesions. For patients with advanced disease (stages III and IV), neoadjuvant chemotherapy, concurrent chemoradiotherapy, or primary surgery was recommended. Overall survival (OS) and disease-specific survival (DSS) were analyzed. Median follow-up was 48 months. The study was conducted from January 1, 2002, to December 31, 2012; data analysis was completed December 1, 2015. Interventions Endoscopic resection, radiotherapy, chemoradiotherapy, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, concurrent chemoradiotherapy, and primary surgery. Main Outcomes and Measures Overall survival and DSS. Of 94 patients with limited disease, 33 (35.1%) underwent endoscopic resection; 50 (53.2%), radiotherapy alone; and 11 (11.7%), chemoradiotherapy for deeply invasive T2 lesions. Of 153 patients with advanced disease, 71 (46.4%) received neoadjuvant chemotherapy; 50 (32.7%), concurrent chemoradiotherapy; and 32 (20.9%), surgery. Five-year OS and DSS was 75% (95% CI, 68%-81%) and 83% (95% CI, 77%-88%), respectively, for the entire cohort. The DSS was 92% (95% CI, 83%-97%) for patients with stage I or II and 78% (95% CI, 69%-84%) for patients with stage III or IV disease. For patients with advanced disease, 5-year OS and DSS ranged from 78% (95% CI, 55%-90%) and 91% (95% CI, 67%-98%), respectively, for surgery; to 76% (95% CI, 63%-85%) and 79% (95% CI, 67%-88%), respectively, for neoadjuvant bioselection; and to 61% (95% CI, 44%-75%) and 66% (95% CI, 48%-79%), respectively, for primary chemoradiotherapy. Propensity-adjusted, multivariable controlling for known prognostic factors DSS was significantly improved in the neoadjuvant group compared with the chemoradiotherapy group (hazard ratio [HR], 0.48; 95% CI, 0.29-0.80). Conclusions and Relevance Superior survival rates were achieved with a bioselective treatment approach using a single cycle of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Good survival rates were also achieved in patients selected for primary surgery, and both neoadjuvant chemotherapy and primary surgery were better than survival rates with concurrent chemoradiotherapy, suggesting that the optimal individualized treatment approach for patients with advanced laryngeal cancer has not yet been defined.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS In order to make possible organ preservation, since 2007 our hospital has performed induction chemotherapy (ICT) with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil (PF) for hypopharyngeal cancer as chemoselection, followed by alternating chemoradiotherapy (ACRT) with docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil in (TPF) good responders and curative surgery was used in poor responders. METHODS Twenty-six patients with stage III to stage IVB hypopharyngeal cancer received ICT. Eleven of the patients were classified as poor responders and received curative surgery. The remaining 15 patients were classified as good responders. Three of these patients underwent curative surgery, and the remaining 12 underwent ACRT. RESULTS The primary lesions in the 12 ACRT patients responded completely to treatment without severe late toxicities. The estimated 3-year laryngectomy-free rate for all 26 patients was 23%. The estimated 3-year overall survival rates for all 26 patients, 12 patients treated with ACRT, and 14 patients who underwent curative surgery, were 79%, 75%, and 84%, respectively. CONCLUSION The patients who underwent ACRT showed no significant difference in overall survival compared with the patients who underwent curative surgery. All the patients were able to proceed with this series of therapy, indicating that ICT with PF could be a feasible tool for choosing good responders. Because ACRT with TPF had a high response rate and fewer severe toxicities, this treatment could be safe and have enough impact to control hypopharyngeal cancer in good responders. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Postoperative complications, especially pharyngocutaneous fistulization (PCF), are more frequent after total laryngectomy (TL) performed for salvage after (chemo)radiotherapy than after primary TL. The aim of this study was to identify the incidence of PCF, predictive factors for PCF, and the relationship of PCF to survival. METHODS We performed a retrospective chart review of 217 consecutive patients treated with TL between 2000 and 2010. Univariate and multivariable analysis with logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with PCF. We used a Kaplan-Meier survival analysis. RESULTS The overall incidence of PCF was 26.3% (57 of 217 cases). The incidence of PCF after primary TL was 17.1% (12 of 70), that after salvage TL was 25.5% (25 of 98), that after TLE for a second primary was 37.5% (9 of 24), and that after TL for a dysfunctional larynx was 44.0% (11 of 25). The predictive factors for PCF were hypopharynx cancer (odds ratio [OR], 3.67; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.74 to 7.71; P = .001), an albumin level of less than 40 g/L (OR, 2.20; 95% CI, 1.12 to 4.33; P = .022), previous chemoradiotherapy (OR, 3.38; 95% CI, 1.34 to 8.52; P = .010), more-extended pharyngeal resection (P = .001), and pharynx reconstruction (P = .002). The median duration of survival was 30 months (95% CI, 17.5 to 42.5); the 2-year overall survival rate was 54%. The median duration of survival of patients with PCF was 23 months (95% CI, 9.4 to 36.6), and that of those without PCF was 31 months (95% CI, 15.0 to 47.0; P = .421). The 2-year overall survival rate was 48% in patients with PCF and 57% in those without PCF (P = .290). CONCLUSIONS Incidence of PCF after TL is significantly higher in patients with hypopharynx cancer, previous chemoradiotherapy, a low albumin level, more-extended pharyngeal resection, or pharynx reconstruction. The occurrence of PCF does not influence the rate of survival.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Both organ-preserving concurrent (chemo)radiotherapy ((C)RT) and organ-sacrificing surgery (total laryngectomy) are used for treatment of advanced laryngeal cancer. The purpose of this study was to present the assessment of our treatment protocol for T3 (C)RT and T4 disease (total laryngectomy + postoperative RT). METHODS We conducted a retrospective cohort study in 182 consecutive patients (1999-2008). The primary outcome was overall survival (OS) in relation to stage and treatment. RESULTS One hundred two patients received RT (82.4% T3), 20 patients CRT (60.0% T3), and 60 patients total laryngectomy + RT (91.7% T4). Five-year OS: T3 52%, T4 48%, for RT 50%, for CRT 43%, and for total laryngectomy + RT 52%. Five-year laryngectomy-free interval was 72% after RT, and 83% after CRT. CONCLUSION There were no differences in survival according to T classification or treatment modality. Because the majority of T3 laryngeal cancers were treated with (C)RT and the majority of T4 with total laryngectomy + RT, this gives food for thought on whether the present protocol for T3 laryngeal cancer is optimal.

Abstract
The concept of larynx preservation in locally advanced laryngeal or hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma has evolved during the last three decades, especially with the advancement of nonsurgical strategies. These nonsurgical strategies include: (1) radiotherapy alone; (2) concomitant chemoradiotherapy (CCRT); and (3) induction chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy or CCRT and concurrent anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). To date, the best approach for larynx preservation has yet to be defined. In this article, we review and discuss important recent randomized phase II/III trials investigating larynx preservation in order to facilitate the selection of an appropriate strategy in the clinical setting. However, the decision of larynx preservation should always be a multidisciplinary approach.
