Abstract
Integrated skincare combines clinically proven skincare products with professional medical aesthetics to provide a comprehensive solution for beauty pursuers. Studies have demonstrated that a combination of medical aesthetic procedures and maintenance therapies is more effective than either treatment alone. This review outlines the current applications of integrated skincare, including different regimens of energy-based aesthetic devices and active ingredients in cosmeceuticals or chemical peels. Additionally, the benefits and limitations of integrated skincare are discussed. Lastly, this review highlights the potential for improved satisfaction and long-term maintenance of the desired outcomes through appropriate integrated skincare procedures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ablative fractional CO2 laser is widely used to address various skin problems, but the treatment often leads to adverse effects such as erythema, dyspigmentation, and extended recovery periods, negatively impacting patients' quality of life. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a topical skincare regimen containing both CE Ferulic serum and Resveratrol BE night serum following fractional CO2 laser treatment in Chinese population. METHODS In this randomized, investigator-blinded, split-face, controlled trial, individuals aged 18-65 undergoing ablative CO2 laser treatment were randomly assigned to apply CE Ferulic plus resveratrol BE serum (CEF-RBE) to either side of face and normal saline (NS) to the other, for 14 consecutive days. The primary endpoint was erythema index (EI) on day 14, with key secondary endpoints including scabbing detachment time, percentage changes in EI and melanin index (MI), skin hydration, transepidermal water loss, skin sebum content, oedema, and overall subject satisfaction. RESULTS The study included 51 patients, of whom 29 (56.9%) were female, with a mean (SD) age of 29.8 (5.39) years. On day 14, the CEF-RBE side exhibited significantly lower EI than the NS side (308.9 vs. 325.3, p = 0.034). The median (IQR) time (days) for complete scabbing detachment at the CEF-RBE side was 6.0 (5.0-8.0) compared to 6.5 (5.0-9.0) at NS side (p = 0.018). Additionally, the CEF-RBE side showed a 7.4% decrease in MI from baseline to day 14, while the NS side experienced a 0.2% increase (Δ = -7.6%, p = 0.044). Throughout the 14-day follow-up, the CEF-RBE side consistently displayed higher skin hydration than the NS side. CONCLUSIONS The study highlighted the benefits of incorporating CEF-RBE following laser treatment in reducing erythema and hyperpigmentation, promoting wound healing, and maintaining skin hydration, although limitations such as contamination and adherence issues should be considered.

Abstract
Management of the signs of facial aging and other cosmetic skin problems have greatly evolved in the past years. People are also seeking to improve their well-being and global skin appearance, and when they consider using cosmetic procedures, they expect natural and long-lasting aesthetic results. Combined dermocosmetic approaches that address the signs of facial aging at all levels are increasingly being used by dermatologists to meet patient expectations while ensuring their safety. Minimally invasive and reversible procedures that can be performed in only one session are popular approaches for skin restructuring and volumizing as they are flexible, rapid and less burdensome for patients. These interventions can achieve even better outcomes when they are combined with cosmeceuticals as pre- or post-procedural adjuvants to prepare the skin, accelerate recovery and sustain results. The use of topical dermocosmetics is also recommended as part of the daily skin care routine to improve skin quality and help maintain skin barrier function. This review thus outlines the most commonly used combined multilevel anti-aging strategies, which start by addressing the deepest skin layers and then the more superficial signs of skin aging. Examples of multi-active cosmeceuticals and skin delivery enhancing systems are also presented, together with examples of the use of dermocosmetics as supportive care for aesthetic procedures, to provide insights into current applications of dermocosmetic products.

Abstract
Laser-assisted drug delivery (LADD) is a treatment method to enhance the penetration of pharmaceuticals through the skin. The aim of the present study is to track hyaluronic acid (HA) and analyse its effect on human skin in vivo after ablative fractional laser (AFL) treatment. Healthy male and female subjects were recruited. Four areas were marked on their forearms of each volunteer, and each area was assigned to one of the following treatment options: AFL + HA, AFL only, HA only or untreated control. A carbon dioxide laser was used for the AFL treatment. Follow-up measurements were scheduled 30 min and 30 days after treatment using multiphoton tomography equipped with fluorescence lifetime imaging (MPT-FLIM). A total of 11 subjects completed the study. By detecting fluorescence lifetimes, the HA and the anaesthetic ointment were clearly distinguishable from surrounding tissue. After AFL treatment, HA could be visualized in all epidermal and upper dermal layers. In contrast, HA in intact skin was only detected in the superficial layers at distinctly lower levels. The applied HA gel seemed to have beneficial properties for the wound healing process after laser treatment. LADD has proven to be a fast and effective method to increase HA uptake into the skin, allowing for improved hydration and skin rejuvenation over time. Furthermore, LADD could be a beneficial treatment option in laser resurfacing. MPT-FLIM proved to be an appropriate diagnostic tool for drug delivery tracking and monitoring of treatment response for individualized therapy adjustment.

Abstract
Whole-grain cereals are important components of a healthy diet. It reduces the risk of many deadly diseases like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, etc. Brown rice is an example of whole grain food, which is highly nutritious due to the presence of various bioactive compounds (flavonoids, phenolics, vitamins, phytosterols, oils, etc.) associated with the rice bran layer of brown rice. White rice is devoid of the nutritious rice bran layer and thus lacks the bioactive compounds which are the major attractants of brown rice. Therefore, to confer health benefits to the public at large, the nutrigenomic potential of white rice may be improved by integrating the phytochemicals associated with the rice bran layer of brown rice into it via biofortification processes like conventional breeding, agronomic practices, metabolic engineering, CRISPR/Cas9 technology, and RNAi techniques. Thus, this review article focuses on improving the nutritional qualities of white/polished rice through biofortification processes, utilizing new breeding technologies (NBTs).

Abstract
A thorough knowledge of non-surgical procedures (laser, peelings, injections, threads) and surgical procedures (combined surgeries and skin grafts), including contraindications and potential risks and side effects, (e.g. infection, hypopigmentation, hyperpigmentation, and scarring) is essential to be able to reduce their incidence and ensure the patient receives the most benefit from the procedure. Individuals with darker skin and of high Fitzpatrick phototype are at higher risk of dyschromias, notably melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which may be treated using aesthetic procedures but may also arise as a complication of some procedures. A group of experts in cosmetic surgery and dermatology reviewed the published literature and discussed recommendations for optimizing outcomes with practical advice on supportive skincare before, during and after non-surgical or surgical procedures. A broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high sun protection factor against UVB and high protection against UVA, especially long UVA, is essential for all treatment modalities for the prevention and potential improvement of pigmentation disorders. Supportive skin care management to prepare, cleanse and protect the skin and post-procedure skin care with healing and anti-inflammatory ingredients are recommended to speed up regeneration and wound healing whilst minimizing scarring and downtime. Additionally, adjunctive skin care to procedures with antioxidant, anti-ageing and lightening properties may enhance skin benefits.

Background
Homeostatic regulation of cardiomyocytes is indispensable in maintaining the normal physiological activity of cardiac tissue. Cardiotoxicity induced by drugs may lead to cardiac abnormalities such as arrhythmia, myocardial infarction and myocardial hypertrophy. Moreover, drug-induced cardiotoxicity confines the additional use of the implicated drugs. Several studies have reported that consumption of phytochemicals on regular intervals shall protect humans against numerous diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, inflammatory diseases and cancer.

Ferulic acid (FA) is a plant derived polyphenol abundantly found in vegetables, fruits and grains. FA is widely known for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, nephroprotective and hepatoprotective effects. FA has been well documented for its cardioprotective activity against various drugs and toxic agents as well. However, the cardioprotective action of FA have remained a challenge with regard to understanding its mechanism in health and diseases.
Conclusion
The main purpose of this review is to explore the cardioprotective mechanisms of FA against several drugs and chemicals to recommend further studies to investigate the potential protective effect of FA.

Efficacy and safety of 755-nm picosecond alexandrite laser with topical tranexamic acid versus laser monotherapy for melasma and facial rejuvenation: a multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, split-face study in Chinese patients. Abstract
To compare the efficacy and safety of 755-nm picosecond alexandrite laser and topical tranexamic acid (TTA) combination therapy with laser monotherapy, for the treatment of melasma and facial rejuvenation. This multicenter, randomized, double-blinded, split-face study enrolled 37 patients who presented with melasma and photoaging. Facial halves were randomized to receive either laser and TTA combination therapy or laser monotherapy. Three treatments were delivered at 4-5 weeks intervals. Patients were followed up for 1, 3, and 6 months post-final treatment and evaluated by blinded investigators for hemi-Melasma Area and Severity Index (hemi-MASI), facial dyschromia, skin texture, laxity, and rhytids. Daily diaries rating healing progress for 7 days posttreatment and satisfaction grading were performed by all patients. Adverse events were recorded. Thirty-six patients completed the follow-up. Compared with the baseline, hemi-MASI, dyschromia, and skin texture on both halves improved significantly through the follow-up (p = 0.000). A significant difference in hemi-MASI and dyschromia between combination therapy halves and monotherapy halves was noticed at 1- and 3-month follow-ups (p < 0.05). The laser monotherapy halves displayed significantly less redness and sensitivity during the 7-day posttreatment recovery period (p < 0.05). Patients' satisfaction ratings for the combination therapy halves were higher than the monotherapy halves at 1-month follow-up (p < 0.05). No severe adverse events were observed. The picosecond alexandrite laser and TTA combination therapy demonstrated synergistic efficacy for hemi-MASI and dyschromia improvements over laser monotherapy. The optimization of the picosecond laser and TTA combination regimen needs further investigation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The topical application of a combination Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Ferulic acid serum following ablative fractional resurfacing has been reported to shorten post-procedure downtime and improve wound healing. However, transcutaneous drug delivery of cosmeceuticals initially meant for topical application have also been shown to have unintended side effects. The objective of our study was to report safety data from our single academic center experience consisting of patients treated with topical application of a vitamin C-containing cosmeceutical immediately following fractional ablative CO2 laser treatment with a focus on reportable side effects. METHODS A retrospective chart review of all patients at the University of Minnesota M Health Cosmetic Center who had fractional ablative CO2 (10,600 nm) laser procedure for any diagnosis followed by immediate one-time application of a combination serum containing 15% Vitamin C, 1% Vitamin E, and 0.5% Ferulic acid (C E Ferulic®, SkinCeuticals Inc., New York, NY) from Jan 1, 2015 to Dec 31, 2018 was performed. Pediatric and research opt-out patients were excluded. The medical records of these patients were manually reviewed for the following: age, sex, diagnosis, location, after-care instructions, antiviral and/or antibacterial prophylaxis use, and documentation of post-procedure side effects. RESULTS Thirty-three patients, encompassing a total of 45 treatment encounters, met inclusion criteria. There were ten cases of expected side effects: erythema (6), erythema with tenderness (1), erythema with mild bumpiness (1), skin peeling with pattern marking (1), and pain with slight bleeding (1). These were attributed to the normal post-procedure course and resolved without complications. There were no reported side effects related to the topical application of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Ferulic acid serum. CONCLUSIONS The topical application of a Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and Ferulic acid serum immediately following fractional ablative CO2 laser therapy did not result in associated complications. However, these results may not be generalizable to longer application courses beyond the immediate post-procedure time period, nor to other cosmeceutical formulations. More studies examining the safety profile of topical cosmeceutical serums in laser-assisted drug delivery are needed.

Abstract
Trans-ferulic acid (FA) is a derivative of 4-hydroxycinnamic acid, which is found in many food products, fruits and beverages. It has scientifically proven antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. However, its low ability to permeate through biological barriers (e.g., the blood-brain barrier, BBB), its low bioavailability and its fast elimination from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration limit its clinical use, e.g., for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease. Therefore, new nanotechnological approaches are developed in order to regulate intracellular transport of ferulic acid. The objective of this review is to summarize the last decade's research on biological properties of ferulic acid and innovative ways of its delivery, supporting pharmacological therapy.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Ferulic acid is a phenolic compound widely distributed in monocotyledons, with several applications, especially in pharmaceutical and dermo-cosmetic industries. It has proven antioxidant and anti- inflammatory activities, among others, which are mainly ascribed to its molecular structure. The main factor that can lead to serious skin damages like inflammation, dryness, wrinkles, and cancer is the exposure to UV radiation that is responsible for an increased level of radical oxygen species. OBJECTIVE This review aims to evaluate the application of ferulic acid in topical formulations and the technologies used to enhance its bioavailability and stability, as well as to get a clearer picture of its effects by in vivo and in vitro studies. METHODS It covers technological publications in the WIPO, EPO, INPI, and USPTO databases and scientific publications in the PubMed, Web of Sciences, and Science Direct databases, exploring the trend and application of this compound by country and year of publication. RESULTS Both the scientific and technological analyses showed the importance and tendency in the association of the Ferulic Acid and other vitamins and actives. The synergic effect certainly provides a better result, performance, and stability of the compounds, which cleared the great spectrum and applicability of the Ferulic Acid in topical formulations. CONCLUSION The present literature survey revealed that ferulic acid exerts an important activity in several formulations for topical application and improved the stability and bioavailability when combined with new technologies and methods, showing an open path to target the treatment of skin disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Combining the efficacy of ablative fractional carbon dioxide lasers (AFXL) to laser-assisted hyaluronic acid delivery (LAHAD) has not yet been studied. The objective of our study was to evaluate the safety and the efficacy of laser-assisted hyaluronic acid (HA) delivery with AFXL in facial skin remodeling. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS We conducted a prospective, double-blinded, randomized split-face study on 20 patients from 30 to 70 years old, with a skin phototype from I to IV. Each patient received full-face treatment with AFXL, immediately followed by the application in droplets into the fractional ablative tunnels of 1 ml of HA gel on one hemiface and 1 ml of physiological saline on the other hemiface. To evaluate postlaser aftermath, the intensity of erythema, edema, and crusts was graded. To assess facial skin remodeling, we scored the improvement of skin texture, firmness, fine lines, and skin radiance from baseline. Patients were evaluated on the 3rd and 7th day, 1st and 3rd month using clinical evaluations, photographs, and patient questionnaires. RESULTS We showed equivalence in postlaser aftermath between HA-treated and nontreated hemiface. Trend data analyses at the 3rd month suggested that immediate application of HA after AFXL resulted in a greater improvement in facial skin remodeling, especially for skin texture (mean score of 2.60 vs. 2.45) and skin firmness (mean score of 2.55 vs. 2.40). Skin radiance showed the best improvement, reaching almost a score of 5/10. CONCLUSIONS LAHAD with AFXL is a safe treatment showing promising results in facial skin remodeling. These findings need to be confirmed by a larger study to evaluate the value of LAHAD in daily clinical practice. Lasers Surg. Med. © 2021 Wiley Periodicals LLC.

Abstract
Laser-assisted drug delivery augments the distribution and penetration of topically applied treatments, leading to enhanced delivery and bioavailability. We discuss the therapeutic application of laser-assisted drug delivery in clinical practice in cases of non-melanoma skin cancer, vitiligo, melasma, scarring, and alopecia (female pattern hair loss, male pattern hair loss, alopecia areata) as well as for vaccination, local anaesthesia, analgesia, viral warts, infantile haemangiomas and cosmetic uses, and we review clinical studies that have used this technique over the last decade. Our review shows that the application of laser-assisted drug delivery enhances topical agent efficacy, potentially reducing the agent concentration and duration of topical treatment required. Future research into the use of laser-assisted drug delivery before topical therapies is needed to establish the optimal techniques to enhance drug delivery and thus improve patient outcomes.

Abstract
Introduction: This study evaluated, from a histological point of view, the process of repairing skin wounds caused in the dorsal region of rats when subjected to treatment with vitamin C, low-intensity laser, and association of both. Methods: Forty-eight adult male rats (Rattus norvegicus, albinus, Wistar), weighing between 250 and 300 g were used in this study. The rats were anesthetized with sodium pentobarbital (10 mg/kg) intraperitoneally (IP) and a circular area of skin of approximately 8 mm in diameter was removed from the dorsal region of their back by a punch. The animals were randomly divided into four groups of 12 individuals: Group I, control group, was treated with saline solution; Group II was treated with topical application of vitamin C; Group III was treated with low-intensity laser; and Group IV was treated with both low-intensity laser and topical application of vitamin C. Samples were histologically analyzed through optical microscopy with hematoxylin and eosin staining and collagen I and III concentrations were quantified using the picrosirius-hematoxylin histochemical method and further submitted to statistical analysis. Results: Whilst the control and vitamin C groups admittedly showed slight epithelial proliferation at the wound edges, the group irradiated with low-intensity laser and the group treated with both laser and vitamin C had already partially formed epidermis, with a more organized underlying connective tissue and less evident inflammatory process. The group treated with laser alone obtained a higher concentration of type I collagen fibers and the group with the highest amount of type III collagen fibers was the one treated with the association of vitamin C and laser. Conclusion: The present findings suggest that in spite of all treatments being effective in the repair of skin wounds compared to the control group, the isolated use of low-intensity therapy laser and its combined use with topical vitamin C showed the most favorable results, indicating that those could be further used for the treatment of skin wounds.

Abstract
Wound healing can lead to complex clinical problems, hence finding an efficient approach to enhance the healing process is necessary. An ideal wound dressing should treat wounds at reasonable costs, with minimal inconveniences for the patient. Chitosan is one of the most investigated biopolymers for wound healing applications due to its biocompatibility, biodegradability, non-toxicity, and antimicrobial activity. Moreover, chitosan and its derivative have attracted numerous attentions because of the accelerating wound healing, and easy processability into different forms (gels, foams, membranes, and beads). All these properties make chitosan-based materials particularly versatile and promising for wound dressings. Besides, secondary natural metabolites could potentially act like the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agents and accelerate the healing process. This review collected almost all studies regarding natural compounds applications in wound healing by focusing on the chitosan-based bioactive wound dressing systems. An accurate analysis of different chitosan formulations and the influence of bioactive compounds on their wound healing properties are reported.

Abstract
Vitamin C (Vit C) is a potent antioxidant with several applications in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical fields. However, the biggest challenge in the utilization of Vit C is to maintain its stability and improve its delivery to the active site. Several strategies have been developed such as: controlling the oxygen levels during formulation and storage, low pH, reduction of water content in the formulation and the addition of preservative agents. Additionally, the utilization of derivatives of Vit C and the development of micro and nanoencapsulated delivery systems have been highlighted. In this article, the multiple applications and mechanisms of action of vitamin C will be reviewed and discussed, as well as the new possibilities of delivery and improvement of stability.

Abstract
Treatment of facial scars is a multispecialty endeavor for optimal patient recovery. One new innovation helping in facial scar treatments are lasers. Fractional laser predictably (tunable) disrupts the barrier of the skin creating deep channels that allow the delivery of drug and cellular materials; this is called laser-assisted drug delivery (LAD). Without exception thus far, LAD has been found to enhance the local uptake of any drug or substance applied to the skin. These zones may be used postoperatively to deliver drugs and other substances to create an enhanced scar therapeutic response to drug or substance applied to the skin.

Abstract
Interaction of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) in the vicinity of cells’ membrane with a pulsed laser (λ = 532 nm, τ = 1 ns) leads to perforation of the cell membrane, thereby allowing extracellular molecules to diffuse into the cell. The objective of this study was to develop an experimental setting to deliver molecules into primary human gingival fibroblasts (pHFIB-G) by using ns-laser pulses interacting with AuNPs (study group). To compare the parameters required for manipulation of pHFIB-G with those needed for cell lines, a canine pleomorphic adenoma cell line (ZMTH3) was used (control group). Non-laser-treated cells incubated with AuNPs and the delivery molecules served as negative control. Laser irradiation (up to 35 mJ/cm2) resulted in a significant proportion of manipulated fibroblasts (up to 85%, compared to non-irradiated cells: p < 0.05), while cell viability (97%) was not reduced significantly. pHFIB-G were perforated as efficiently as ZMTH3. No significant decrease of metabolic cell activity was observed up to 72 h after laser treatment. The fibroblasts took up dextrans with molecular weights up to 500 kDa. Interaction of AuNPs and a pulsed laser beam yields a spatially selective technique for manipulation of even primary cells such as pHFIB-G in high throughput.
