Abstract
N-alkyl-substituted polyacrylamides exhibit a thermal coil-to-globule transition in aqueous solution driven by an increase in hydrophobic interactions with rising temperature. With the aim of understanding the role of N-alkyl substituents in the thermal transition, this study focuses on the molecular interactions underlying the phase transition of poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide-co-N-ethylacrylamide) random copolymers. Poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) (PDEAm), poly(N-ethylacrylamide) (PNEAm), and their random copolymers were synthesized by free radical polymerization and their chemical structure characterized spectroscopically. It was found that the values of the cloud-point temperature increased with PNEAm content, and particle aggregation processes took place, increasing the negative charge density on their surface. The cloud-point temperature of each copolymer decreased with respect to the theoretical values calculated assuming an absence of interactions. It is attributed to the formation of intra- and interchain hydrogen bonding in aqueous solutions. These interactions favor the formation of more hydrophobic macromolecular segments, thereby promoting the cooperative nature of the transition. These results definitively reveal the dominant mechanism occurring during the phase transition in the aqueous solutions of these copolymers.

Abstract
Thermally induced physical hydrogels formed through the sol-gel transition of nanogels usually lose structural color above phase transition temperature (Tp). Herein, temperature/pH/redox-responsive nanogels that undergo sol-gel transition still keep structural colors above the Tp have been synthesized and studied. N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAm) was copolymerized with N-tert-butylacrylamide (TBA) and N-acrylamido-l-phenylalanine (Aphe) to form P(NIPAm/TBA/Aphe) nanogel crosslinked with N,N'-bis(acryloyl)cystine (BISS) (referred to as PNTA-BISS). PNTA-BISS nanogel with a broad range of biodegradable crosslinker BISS content can achieve a reversible sol-gel transition above the Tp, surprisingly, while PNTA nanogels with a comparable content of biodegradable N,N'-Bis(acryloyl)cystam (BAC) crosslinker (referred to as PNTA-BAC) didn't form sol-gel transition. Although BISS and BAC possess same disulfide bonds with redox properties, BISS, unlike BAC, is water-soluble and features two carboxyl groups. The mechanism by which PNTA-BISS nanogels form hydrogel photonic crystals has been deeply explored with temperature-variable NMR. The results showed the introduction of Aphe with both steric hindrance and carboxyl groups greatly slowed down the shrinkage of PNTA-BISS nanogels. Therefore, PNTA-BISS nanogels can form sol-gel transition and further structural color of hydrogel photonic crystals due to carboxyl groups above the Tp. Furthermore, the properties of biodegradable hydrogel photonic crystals above the Tp were investigated for the first time, attributed to the presence of the strong reducing agent 1,4-dithiothreitol (DTT). When loaded with doxorubicin (DOX), PNTA-BISS exhibited favorable degradation properties under the influence of DTT. In summary, the PNTA-BISS nanogel, in addition to its in-situ gelation capabilities, demonstrated degradability, potentially providing a novel nanoplatform for applications in drug delivery, biotechnology, and related fields.

Abstract
Hydrogels are widely used in applications such as soft robots and flexible sensors due to their sensitivity to environmental stimuli. It is highly demanded to develop multiple-responsive hydrogel structures. In this work, we employ the 3D printing technique to fabricate a PNIPAM-PEGDA hydrogel bilayer that can change shape through controlling the temperature, solvent mixture and magnetic field. The PNIPAM gel is a typical thermo-responsive gel, showing a decrease in swelling ratio with increasing temperature. Meanwhile, the PNIPAM gels also exhibit the cononsolvency effect in ethanol-water mixtures with a smaller swelling ratio in the mixture compared with that in each pure solvent. In comparison, the swelling ratio of PEGDA gels is insensitive to changes in both the temperature and solvent composition. Thus, the bilayer structure of PNIPAM-PEGDA can bend in different directions and with different angles with changing the temperature and solvent composition. Finally, Fe3O4 nanoparticles are incorporated into the matrix of PEGDA gels, endowing the whole structure with deformation and motion in response to an external magnetic field.

Concentration Effect over Thermoresponse Derived from Organometallic Compounds of Functionalized Poly( N-isopropylacrylamide- co-dopamine Methacrylamide). Polymers (Basel) 2021; 13:polym13223921. Abstract
The functionalization of smart polymers is opening a new perspective in catalysis, drug carriers and biosensors, due to the fact that they can modulate the response regarding conventional devices. This smart response could be affected by the presence of organometallic complexes in terms of interactions which could affect the physical chemical properties. In this sense, the thermoresponsive behavior of copolymers based on N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) could be affected due to the presence of hydrophobic groups and concentration effect. In this work, the functionalization of a copolymer based on NIPAM and dopamine methacrylamide with different amounts of bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium (IV) dichloride was carried out. The resulting materials were characterized, showing a clear idea about the mechanism of functionalization through FTIR spectroscopy. The thermoresponsive behavior was also studied for various polymeric solutions in water by UV-vis spectroscopy and calorimetry. The hydrophobic interactions promoted by the organometallic complex could affect the transition associated with the lower critical solution temperature (LCST), specifically, the segments composed by pure NIPAM. That fact would explain the reduction of the width of the LCST-transition, contrary to what could be expected. In addition, the hydrophobicity was tested by the contact angle and also DNA interactions.

Abstract
Recently, it was reported that the physical crosslinking exhibited by some biopolymers could provide multiple benefits to biomedical applications. In particular, grafting thermoresponsive polymers onto biopolymers may enhance the degradability or offer other features, as thermothickening behavior. Thus, different interactions will affect the different hydrogen bonds and interactions from the physical crosslinking of carboxymethyl cellulose, the lower critical solution temperatures (LCSTs), and the presence of the ions. This work focuses on the study of blends composed of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), poly(N-ethylacrylamide), and carboxymethyl cellulose in water and water/methanol. The molecular features, thermoresponsive behavior, and gelation phenomena are deeply studied. The ratio defined by both homopolymers will alter the final properties and the gelation of the final structures, showing that the presence of the hydrophilic groups modifies the number and contributions of the diverse hydrogen bonds.
