Abstract
Selenium-containing polymers are a group of fascinating functional polymers with unique structures, properties, and applications, which have been developed recently but only with limited examples. The challenges of developing selenium-containing polymers with structural and functional diversity include the lack of economic and safe monomers, lack of efficient and convenient synthetic approaches, and poor stability of selenium-involving covalent bonds. In this work, room-temperature metal-free multicomponent polymerizations (MCPs) of elemental selenium, diisocyanides, and dipropargyl alcohols were developed, and polymers with a selenium-containing aliphatic heterocycle, 1,3-oxaselenolane, were synthesized through these MCPs directly from elemental selenium. The alicyclic poly(oxaselenolane)s enjoyed high yields (up to 93%), high molecular weights (up to 15 600 g/mol), high thermal and chemical stability, good solubility and processability. With the structural design of the poly(oxaselenolane)s and their high selenium contents of up to 33.7 wt %, the refractive indices of their spin-coated thin films could reach 1.8026 at 633 nm and maintain 1.7770 at 1700 nm. It is anticipated that these efficient, convenient, mild, and economic multicomponent polymerizations of elemental selenium can promote the selenium-related polymer chemistry and accelerate the exploration of diversified selenium-containing functional polymer materials.

Abstract
Selenium is capable of forming a dynamic covalent bond with itself and other elements and can undergo metathesis and regeneration reactions under optimum conditions. Its dynamic nature endows selenium-containing polymers with striking sensitivity towards some environmental alterations. In the past decade, several selenium-containing polymers were synthesized and used for the preparation of oxidation-, reduction-, and radiation-responsive nanocarriers. Recently, thioredoxin reductase, sonication, and osmotic pressure triggered the cleavage of Se-Se bonds and swelling or disassembly of nanostructures. Moreover, some selenium-containing nanocarriers form oxidation products such as seleninic acids and acrylates with inherent anticancer activities. Thus, selenium-containing polymers hold promise for the fabrication of ultrasensitive and multifunctional nanocarriers of radiotherapeutic, chemotherapeutic, and immunotherapeutic significance. Herein, we discuss the most recent developments in selenium-containing polymeric micelles in light of their architecture, multiple stimuli-responsive properties, emerging immunomodulatory activities, and future perspectives in the delivery and controlled release of anticancer agents.

Abstract
On-demand dissolution of hydrogels is being increasingly studied for their potential use in burn wound dressing applications. Herein, a dynamic diselenide-containing hydrogel is developed through a very simple one-pot and two-step process starting from the selenol functionalization of a partially hydrolyzed poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) with γ-butyroselenolactone. The hydrogel spontaneously cross-links via an in situ oxidation of the selenol functionalities in air. The gelation process and the final viscoelastic properties of the gel are characterized by rheological experiments. The mechanical properties of those new diselenide-containing hydrogels are easily tuned by varying the concentration of γ-butyroselenolactone. The materials also show good skin adhesion and UV light responsiveness. A unique feature of the hydrogel is its capability to be fully and rapidly dissolved on-demand, via oxidation or reduction of the diselenide cross-links, making them particularly attractive for burn wound dressing applications.

Abstract
Selenide-containing amphiphilic copolymers have shown significant potential for application in drug release systems. Herein, we present a methodology for the design of a reactive oxygen species-responsive amphiphilic diblock selenide-labeled copolymer. This copolymer with controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution was prepared by sequential organoselenium-mediated reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (Se-RAFT) polymerization and selenol-based nucleophilic reaction. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-to-flight (MALDI-TOF) techniques were used to characterize its structure. Its corresponding nanomicelles successfully formed through self-assembly from the copolymer itself. Such nanomicelles could rapidly disassemble under oxidative conditions due to the fragmentation of the Se-C bond. Therefore, this type of nanomicelle based on selenide-labeled amphiphilic copolymers potentially provides a new platform for drug delivery.

Abstract
A versatile protocol for the synthesis of a variety of multiresponsive diselenide-containing polymeric architectures was investigated. It consists of a one-pot, two-step process with the generation of a selenol by in situ nucleophilic ring opening of selenolactone with a broad range of amine-containing structures, followed by the transformation of the obtained compounds to the corresponding diselenide through a spontaneous oxidation coupling reaction. After elaboration of this one-pot reaction, a number of routes based on selenolactones have been developed for the successful synthesis of functional, linear, branched, cyclic, and cross-linked polymers via a mild, straightforward process. Moreover, the polymer end groups can be easily modified by changing the ratio of amine and selenolactone or sequential Michael addition of selenol to the methacrylic ester. At last, the self-healing properties of the diselenide-containing networks were determined by exposing a cut sample of the polymer to UV light.
