Pre-Endcapping of Hyperbranched Polymers toward Intrinsically Stretchable Semiconductors with Good Ductility and Carrier Mobility

The advancement of semiconducting polymers stands as a pivotal milestone in the quest to realize wearable electronics. Nonetheless, endowing semiconductor polymers with stretchability without compromising their carrier mobility remains a formidable challenge. This study proposes a "pre-endcapping" strategy for synthesizing hyperbranched semiconducting polymers (HBSPs), aiming to achieve the balance between carrier mobility and stretchability for organic electronics. The findings unveil that the aggregates formed by the endcapped hyperbranched network structure not only ensure efficient charge transport but also demonstrate superior tensile resistance. In comparison to linear conjugated polymers, HBSPs exhibit substantially larger crack onset strains and notably diminished tensile moduli. It is evident that the HBSPs surpass their linear counterparts in terms of both their semiconducting and mechanical properties. Among HBSPs, HBSP-72h-2.5 stands out as the preeminent candidate within the field of inherently stretchable semiconducting polymers, maintaining 93% of its initial mobility even when subjected to 100% strain (1.41 ± 0.206 cm2 V-1 s-1). Furthermore, thin film devices of HBSP-72h-2.5 remain stable after undergoing repeated stretching and releasing cycles. Notably, the mobilities are independent of the stretching directions, showing isotropic charge transport behavior. The preliminary study makes this "pre-endcapping" strategy a potential candidate for the future design of organic materials for flexible electronic devices.

Polyacetylene-Based Asymmetric Bicyclic Polymer by Blocking-Cyclization Technique

A rare asymmetric bicyclic polymer containing different length of conjugated polyacetylene segments is synthesized by metathesis cyclopolymerization-mediated blocking-cyclization technique. The size of each single ring differs from each other, and the unique cyclic polymer topology is controlled by adjusting the feed ratio of monofunctional monomer to catalyst. The topological difference between linear and bicyclic polymers is confirmed by several techniques, and the visualized morphology of asymmetric bicyclic polymer is directly observed without tedious post-modification process. The photoelectric and thermal properties of polymers are investigated. This work expands the pathway for the derivation of cyclic polymers, and such unique topological structure enriches the diversity of cyclic polymer classes.

A comprehensive review on the advancements and challenges in perovskite solar cell technology

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have emerged as revolutionary technology in the field of photovoltaics, offering a promising avenue for efficient and cost-effective solar energy conversion. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the progress and developments in PSCs, beginning with an introduction to their fundamental properties and significance. Herein, we discuss the various types of PSCs, including lead-based, tin-based, mixed Sn-Pb, germanium-based, and polymer-based PSCs, highlighting their unique attributes and performance metrics. Special emphasis is given to halide double PSCs and their potential in enhancing the stability of PSCs. Charge transport layers and their significance in influencing the overall efficiency of solar cells are discussed in detail. The review also explores the role of tandem solar cells as a solution to overcome the limitations of single-junction solar cells, offering an integrated approach to harness a broader spectrum of sunlight. This review concludes with challenges associated with PSCs and perspective on the future potential of PSCs, emphasizing their role in shaping a sustainable energy landscape. Through this review readers will gain a comprehensive insight into the current state-of-the-art in PSC technology and the avenues for future research and development.

Tetracyanobutadienyl-based Nonlinear Optical Dendronized Hyperbranched Polymer Synthesized via Facile [2+2] Cycloaddition Polymer Postfunctionalization

Dendronized hyperbranched polymers (DHPs) can provide advantages of both hyperbranched polymers and dendrimers, making them promising structure platform for high performance second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) materials. Herein, we report a new A₃ +B₂ -type DHP (HP2) through facile and efficient [2+2] cycloaddition polymer postfunctionalization, in which tetracyanobutadienyl-based moieties are introduced as the main chromophores while isophorone-bridged moieties serve as the isolation chromophores. Benefiting from this unique hyperbranched structure design, the measured d₃₃ value of HP2 can reach up to 96.6 pm/V with high thermal stability, making it a good material candidate for second-order NLO applications. BMS Derivatives C7-Linked to β-Cyclodextrin and Hyperbranched Polyglycerol Retain Activity against R5-HIV-1NLAD8 Isolates and Can Be Deemed Potential Microbicides

Amides from indole-3-glyoxylic acid and 4-benzoyl-2-methylpiperazine, which are related to entry inhibitors developed by Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), have been synthesized with aliphatic chains located at the C7 position of the indole ring. These spacers contain an azido group suitable for the well-known Cu(I)-catalyzed (3+2)-cycloaddition or an activated triple bond for the nucleophilic addition of thiols under physiological conditions. Reaction with polyols (β-cyclodextrin and hyperbranched polyglycerol) decorated with complementary click partners has afforded polyol-BMS-like conjugates that are not cytotoxic (TZM.bl cells) and retain the activity against R5-HIV-1_NLAD8 isolates. Thus, potential vaginal microbicides based on entry inhibitors, which can be called of 4^th generation, are reported here for the first time.

Spatially Controlled Highly Branched Vinylsilicones

Branched silicones possess interesting properties as oils, including their viscoelastic behavior, or as precursors to controlled networks. However, highly branched silicone polymers are difficult to form reliably using a “grafting to” strategy because functional groups may be bunched together preventing complete conversion for steric reasons. We report the synthesis of vinyl-functional highly branched silicone polymers based, at their core, on the ability to spatially locate functional vinyl groups along a silicone backbone at the desired frequency. Macromonomers were created and then polymerized using the Piers–Rubinsztajn reaction with dialkoxyvinylsilanes and telechelic HSi-silicones; molecular weights of the polymerized macromonomers were controlled by the ratio of the two reagents. The vinyl groups were subjected to iterative (two steps, one pot) hydrosilylation with alkoxysilane and Piers–Rubinsztajn reactions, leading to high molecular weight, highly branched silicones after one or two iterations. The vinyl-functional products can optionally be converted to phenyl/methyl-modified branched oils or elastomers.

Clarification of the effects of topological isomers on the mechanical strength of comb polyurethane

We demonstrated the mechanical enhancement behavior of the comb polyurethanes by the topological isomer system between the linear and comb polyurethane. Also, we assumed the mechanical enhancement mechanism by the rheological properties.

Recent advances in development of dendritic polymer-based nanomedicines for cancer diagnosis

Dendritic polymers have highly branched three-dimensional architectures, the fourth type apart from linear, cross-linked, and branched one. They possess not only a large number of terminal functional units and interior cavities, but also a low viscosity with weak or no entanglement. These features endow them with great potential in various biomedicine applications, including drug delivery, gene therapy, tissue engineering, immunoassay and bioimaging. Most review articles related to bio-related applications of dendritic polymers focus on their drug or gene delivery, while very few of them are devoted to their function as cancer diagnosis agents, which are essential for cancer treatment. In this review, we will provide comprehensive insights into various dendritic polymer-based cancer diagnosis agents. Their classification and preparation are presented for readers to have a precise understanding of dendritic polymers. On account of physical/chemical properties of dendritic polymers and biological properties of cancer, we will suggest a few design strategies for constructing dendritic polymer-based diagnosis agents, such as active or passive targeting strategies, imaging reporters-incorporating strategies, and/or internal stimuli-responsive degradable/enhanced imaging strategies. Their recent applications in in vitro diagnosis of cancer cells or exosomes and in vivo diagnosis of primary and metastasis tumor sites with the aid of single/multiple imaging modalities will be discussed in great detail. Preparation of hyperbranched polymers by oxa-Michael addition polymerization
