Abstract
The response of the geometric and NMR properties of molecular systems to an external electric field has been studied theoretically in a wide field range. It has been shown that this adduct under field approach can be used to model the geometric and spectral changes experienced by molecular systems in polar media if the system in question has one and only one bond, the polarizability of which significantly exceeds the polarizability of other bonds. If this requirement is met, then it becomes possible to model even extreme cases, for example, proton dissociation in hydrogen halides. This requirement is fulfilled for many complexes with one hydrogen bond. For such complexes, this approach can be used to facilitate a detailed analysis of spectral changes associated with geometric changes in the hydrogen bond. For example, in hydrogen-bonded complexes of isocyanide C≡15N-1H⋯X, 1J(15N1H) depends exclusively on the N-H distance, while δ(15N) is also slightly influenced by the nature of X.

Abstract
Abstract
The compounds Pn(pyS)3 (Pn = P, As, Sb, Bi) were synthesized from the respective chloride (Pn = P, As, Sb) or nitrate (Bi), pyridine-2-thiol (pySH) and triethylamine (NEt3) as a supporting base in THF (P, Sb), CHCl3 (As) or methanol (Bi). Sb(pyS)3 was also obtained from the reaction of SbCl3 with LipyS (prepared in situ) in methanol. The compounds Sb(pyS)2Ph and Sb(pyS)Ph2 were prepared in a one-pot reaction starting from SbCl3 and SbPh3 (1:1 ratio). Upon Cl/pyS substitution, the resulting reaction mixture allows for a facile separation of the products in hot hexane. P(pyS)3 and As(pyS)3 crystallize isostructurally to the reported structure of Sb(pyS)3 with κ-S-bound pyS ligands. These crystal structures feature close Pn···Pn contacts which are most pronounced for the arsenic derivative. Bi(pyS)3 adopts a different molecular structure in the solid state, which features two chelating (κ
2-S,N-pyS) ligands and a κ-S-bound ligand. The presence of N→Bi interactions between the nitrogen atom of the κ-S-pyS ligand and the Bi atom of another molecule renders this structure a polymer chain along the crystallographic b axis with Bi⋅⋅⋅Bi van-der-Waals contacts. The structures of this set of Pn(pyS)3 compounds were also studied in solution using 1H NMR spectroscopy, revealing equivalent pyS ligands in discrete Pn(pyS)3 molecules. The molecular structure of Sb(pyS)Ph2 was optimized by quantum chemical methods, and a comparison with the structures reported for the other Sb/pyS/Ph combinations reveals Sb(pyS)2Ph to feature the strongest Sb···N interactions with the κ-S-pyS ligand. The results of 1H NMR spectroscopic investigations of the compounds Sb(pyS)

Ph3–x
(x = 3–0) suggest the Ph protons in ortho position to be incorporated into intramolecular C–H···S contacts for x = 2 and 1. Natural localized molecular orbital (NLMO) calculations were employed in order to gain insights into the electronic situations of the Pn atoms and Pn–R bonds (R = S, C), especially for the effects caused by formal substitution of Pn in the compounds Pn(pyS)3 and the ligand patterns in the compounds Sb(pyS)
x
Ph3–x
(x = 3–0). For the latter series of compounds, the electronic situation of the Sb atom was further studied by 121Sb Mössbauer spectroscopy, providing a correlation between the calculated electron density at Sb [ρ(0)] and the experimentally observed isomer shift δ. The missing link between group 15 and group 13 metal compounds of the type M(pyS)3, compound Al(pyS)3, was synthesized in this work. In the solid state (confirmed crystallographically), the mer isomer of this tris-chelate complex with distorted octahedral Al coordination sphere was found. This coordination mode was confirmed for the solution state (CDCl3) by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy at T = −40 °C.

Abstract
We report the syntheses of 2-pyridylimido complexes of tantalum and niobium by N═N bond cleavage of 2,2'-azopyridine. Reaction of MCl5 (M = Ta and Nb) with 2,2'-azopyridine in the presence of 0.5 equiv of 1-methyl-3,6-bis(trimethylsilyl)-1,4-cyclohexadiene (abbreviated Si-Me-CHD) afforded a dark red solution (for Ta) and a dark blue solution (for Nb) with some insoluble precipitates. After removing the solids, another 0.5 equiv of Si-Me-CHD was added to each solution, giving [M(═Npy)Cl3]n (1a: M = Ta; 1b: M = Nb) through reductive cleavage of the N═N bond of 2,2'-azopyridine. The initial products of the above reactions were determined to be 2,2'-azopyridine-bridged dinuclear complexes, [(MCl4)2(μ-pyNNpy)] (2a: M = Ta; 2b: M = Nb), which were isolated by treating MCl5 with 2,2'-azopyridine and Si-Me-CHD in a 2:1:1 molar ratio. In 2a and 2b, the N═N bond was reduced to a single bond via two-electron reduction. Further reduction of complexes 2a and 2b with 1 equiv of Si-Me-CHD afforded complexes 1a and 1b. An anionic doubly μ-imido-bridged ditantalum complex, [nBu4N][Ta2(μ-Npy)2Cl7] (3a), was generated upon addition of nBu4NCl to complex 1a, while addition of nBu4NCl to niobium complex 1b gave a polymeric terminal imido complex, [nBu4N]n/2[{Nb(═Npy)Cl3}2(μ-Cl)]n/2 (3b). Complexations of 1a and 1b with 1 equiv of 2,2'-bipyridine resulted in the formation of mononuclear 2-pyridylimido complexes, M(═Npy)Cl3(bipy) (4a: M = Ta; 4b: M = Nb), whose main structural feature is intramolecular hydrogen bonding between the ortho hydrogen atom of 2,2'-bipyridine and the nitrogen atom of the pyridyl group on the imido ligand. Isolated 2-pyridylimido complexes 4a and 4b reacted with [RhCl(cod)]2 to produce the corresponding early-late heterobimetallic complexes, (bipy)MCl3(μ-Npy)RhCl(cod) (5a: M = Ta; 5b: M = Nb).

Abstract
We developed a set of conformationally locked molecules each of which makes a single CHO H-bond/short contact and has different electron density at the acceptor oxygen atom. The downfield shift of the 1H NMR signals due to the hydrogen involved in the CHO H-bond varied from 0.93-1.6 ppm, and the magnitude of Δδ is in correlation with the hybridization state of the acceptor oxygen and with the CHO H-bond strengths quantified using a computational method.

Abstract
The values of the downfield chemical shift of the bridge hydrogen atom were estimated for a series of compounds containing an intramolecular hydrogen bond O-HO, O-HN, O-HHal, N-HO, N-HN, C-HO, C-HN and C-HHal. Based on these values, the empirical estimation of the hydrogen bond energy was obtained by using known relationships. For the compounds containing an intramolecular hydrogen bond, the DFT B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) method was used both for geometry optimization and for QTAIM calculations of the topological parameters (electron density ρBCP and the density of potential energy V in the critical point of the hydrogen bond). The calculated geometric and topological parameters of hydrogen bonds were also used to evaluate the energy of the hydrogen bond based on the equations from the literature. Comparison of calibrating energies from the 1H NMR data with the energies predicted by calculations showed that the most reliable are the linear dependence on the topological ρBCP and V parameters. However, the correct prediction of the hydrogen bond energy is determined by proper fitting of the linear regression coefficients. To obtain them, new linear relationships were found between the calculated ρBCP and V parameters and the hydrogen bond energies obtained from empirical 1H NMR data. These relationships allow the comparison of the energies of different types of hydrogen bonds for various molecules and biological ensembles.

Abstract
We report here 1,1- and 1,2-insertion reactions of small unsaturated molecules in the N-B bonds of two boron guanidinates, (Me2N)C(NiPr)2BCy2 (1) and {iPr(H)N}C(NiPr){N(p-tBu-C6H4)}BCy2 (2), and two bisboron guanidinates(2-), {iPr(BCy2)N}C(NiPr){N(p-tBu-C6H4)}BCy2 (3) and {iPr(C8H14B)N}C(NiPr){N(p-Me-C6H4)}BC8H14 (4), the latter being prepared for the first time by double deprotonation of the corresponding guanidine with the 9-borabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane dimer, (H-BC8H14)2. Compounds 1-4 easily insert aromatic isonitriles, XylNC (Xyl = 2,6-Me2-C6H3) and (p-MeO-C6H4)NC, to give the expected diazaboroles 5-12, some of them being structurally characterised by X-ray diffraction. Interestingly, the BC8H14 derivatives 11 and 12 are in a fast temperature-dependent equilibrium with the de-insertion products, whose thermodynamic parameters are reported here. A correlation between these equilibria and the puckered heterocyclic structure found in the solid state for 11, and confirmed by DFT calculations, is also established. Reactions of the aforementioned guanidinates with CO are more sluggish or even precluded, and only one product, {iPr(H)N}C{N(p-tBu-C6H4)}(NiPr)(CO)BCy2 (13), could be isolated in moderate yields. The 1,2-insertions of benzaldehyde in compounds 1, 2 and 4 are reversible reactions in all cases, and only one of the insertion products, {iPr(H)N}C{N(p-tBu-C6H4)}(NiPr)(PhHCO)BCy2 (16a), was isolated and diffractrometrically characterised. Likewise, CO2 reversibly inserts into a N-B bond of 2 to give {iPr(H)N}C{N(p-tBu-C6H4)}(NiPr)(CO2)BCy2 (19) with a conversion of ca. 9%. In all these equilibria, de-insertion is always favoured upon increasing the temperature.

Abstract
A hydrogen bond of the type C-H⋅⋅⋅X (X=O or N) is known to influence the structure and function of chemical and biological systems in solution. C-H⋅⋅⋅O hydrogen bonding in solution has been extensively studied, both experimentally and computationally, whereas the equivalent thermodynamic parameters have not been enumerated experimentally for C-H⋅⋅⋅N hydrogen bonds. This is, in part, due to the lack of systems that exhibit persistent C-H⋅⋅⋅N hydrogen bonds in solution. Herein, a class of molecule based on a biologically active norharman motif that exhibits unsupported intermolecular C-H⋅⋅⋅N hydrogen bonds in solution has been described. A pairwise interaction leads to dimerisation to give bond strengths of about 7 kJ mol-1 per hydrogen bond, which is similar to chemically and biologically relevant C-H⋅⋅⋅O hydrogen bonding. The experimental data is supported by computational work, which provides additional insight into the hydrogen bonding by consideration of electrostatic and orbital interactions and allowed a comparison between calculated and extrapolated NMR chemical shifts.
