A new extraction method of underglaze brown decorative pattern based on the coupling of single scale gamma correction and gray sharpening

In order to solve the problem of image quality and morphological characteristics of primary underglaze brown decorative pattern extraction, this paper proposes a method of primary underglaze brown decorative pattern extraction based on the coupling of single scale gamma correction and gray sharpening. The single-scale gamma correction is combined with the gray sharpening method. The single-scale gamma correction improves the contrast and brightness of the image by nonlinear transformation, but may lead to the loss of image detail. Gray sharpening can enhance the high frequency component and improve the clarity of the image, but it will introduce noise. Combining these two technologies can compensate for their shortcomings. The experimental results show that this method can improve the efficiency of last element underglaze brown decorative pattern extraction by enhancing the image retention detail and reducing the influence of noise. The experimental results showed that F1Score, Miou(%), Recall, Precision and Accuracy(%) were 0.92745, 0.82253, 0.97942, 0.92458 and 0.92745, respectively.

Nanocelluloses and Their Applications in Conservation and Restoration of Historical Documents

Nanocelluloses have gained significant attention in recent years due to their singular properties (good biocompatibility, high optical transparency and mechanical strength, large specific surface area, and good film-forming ability) and wide-ranging applications (paper, food packaging, textiles, electronics, and biomedical). This article is a comprehensive review of the applications of nanocelluloses (cellulose nanocrystals, cellulose nanofibrils, and bacterial nanocellulose) in the conservation and restoration of historical paper documents, including their preparation methods and main properties. The novelty lies in the information collected about nanocelluloses as renewable, environmentally friendly, and sustainable materials in the field of cultural heritage preservation as an alternative to conventional methods. Several studies have demonstrated that nanocelluloses, with or without other particles, may impart to the paper documents excellent optical and mechanical properties, very good stability against temperature and humidity aging, higher antibacterial and antifungal activity, high protection from UV light, and may be applied without requiring additional adhesive.

Metal organic frameworks as advanced functional materials for aptasensor design

BACKGROUND

Advancement in coordination chemistry has achieved an impressive development of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) as the supramolecular hybrid materials, comprising harmonized metal nodes with organic ligands. Scope and approach: MOFs offer the unique properties of easy synthesis, nanoscale structure, adjustable size and morphology, high porosity, large surface area, supreme chemical tunability and stability, and biocompatibility. The features provide an exceptional opportunity for the widely usage of MOFs in the different scientific fields, e.g. biomedicine, electrocatalysis, food safety, energy storage, environmental surveillance, and biosensing platforms. The synergistic incorporation of the aptamer advantages and the superiorities of MOFs attains the novel MOF-based aptasensors. The excellent selectivity and sensitivity of the MOF-based aptasensors nominate them as efficient lab-on-chip tools for cost-effective, label-free, portable, and real-time monitoring of diverse targets.

KEY FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS

Here, we review the achievements in the sensor design by cooperation of MOF motifs and aptamers with the conspicuous potential of determining the targets. Finally, some results are expressed that provide a valuable viewpoint for developing the novel MOF-based test strips in the future.

An Essential Role of Polymeric Adhesives in the Reinforcement of Acidified Paper Relics

Paper acidification causes paper relics to undergo embrittlement and decay, to form dregs, and even to break upon a single touch; therefore, reinforcement and deacidification treatments are essential steps for paper conservation and to retard the deterioration and prolong the life of objects. Polymeric adhesives play an essential role in reinforcement and deacidification treatments, although it is not well studied. In this work, the effect of polymeric adhesives on the conservation process and their protective effects on acidified paper relics were studied. Firstly, three polymeric adhesives, including wheat starch paste, polyvinyl butyral (PVB), and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), were selected as research objects. Subsequently, their effects on four popular conservation methods were further discussed, including traditional mounting, hot-melt with silk net, alcohol-soluble cotton mesh, and water-soluble cotton mesh. Additionally, as an example, the reversibility and long-term durability of water-soluble adhesive PVA-217 were assessed. Using a computer measured and controlled folding endurance tester, pendulum tensile strength tester, tear tester, burst tester, FT-IR, video optical contact angle tester, and other instruments, the conservation application of water-soluble adhesives in paper relics was evaluated. This study provides a scientific basis and experimental data for the application of polymeric adhesives in the conservation of paper relics.
